We popped in here for lunch on our way to Cherokee. Boy are we glad we did. The place was packed and it smelled amazing as soon as we walked in the door. Great sign. Our waitress was so friendly and nice. The Greek dressing is brought out in Corona bottles with a pour spot. Genius! Especially for those of us that LOVE dressing. And this Greek dressing was top notch. I wished they bottled and sold that stuff. I had the Italian Sub and my hubby had the Steak Sub. Both were delicious. Perfectly toasted and just the right amount of ingredients. This was a small and I could only eat half but I went back for the second half as a late night snack! I love going to Apollo. Their food is always spot on ! I always go to the Chicken Francesca. IT's large slices of chicken breast marinated and cooked with a bed of spaghetti noodles laid over it in a creamy white cheese sauce and lots of melted mozzarella cheese. IT's a lot of food and you won't be disappointed. My Mom always has the Chicken Parmesan and It's cooked in a tomato based sauce and then has a bed of spaghetti noodles over it with a marinara sauce smothered in hot melted mozzarella cheese. The bread is so delicious you will want to ask for more. I love their ice cold salad bowls with a nicely prepared dinner salad. They are always consistent at either store I've been to. This restaurant is in an older strip mall with other stores. The server was great, the restaurant itself was basic, probably caters to a lot of the same crowd or lunch from Nearby factories. It was very loud inside, really could not hear anyone across from me talking. The lasagna was very greasy and bland. Maybe should have tried a sub sandwich or salad. All in all it was ok. My lasagna was $18.00 and a huge portion...enough for 2 people. Probably won't be back, but I'm sure they won't hurt for business, they stay packed. read more

Always huge portions of delicious food. They get you in and out of the restaurant so fast and it has something for everyone. You better come with your appetite and come to this place though because they are going to load you up with so many different sides and the choices are overwhelming. We tend to go to this place because we can satisfy so many people with such different appetites. My very picky child has a wide range of comfort food in my wife who is vegetarian also has many more choices than in a typical typical restaurant. One of the things I absolutely love about this place. Is that when you get the chicken Parmesan it's a grilled chicken breast. That's already cut up underneath the mound of sauce, noodles and cheese. It makes it so much easier to eat. Then at the end they have a display case of desserts that you see when you first walk in at the host station. Just like their food it is an enormous slice. What a delightful stop! We were passing through and needed to charge the car. This was just half a mile away and we're Greek and Italian fans. We elected to go Italian tonight. Boy were we not disappointed! The salads were on the table with the best homemade Greek salad dressing I have ever had (shake and swirl tutorial was funny and necessary). Chicken Parm and the Lasagna were classics and done well (very generous portions). Baklava and the Oreo cheesecake sealed the deal, we've found our favorite spot for charging the car and refueling our own tanks. We'd also characterize our server as being magical - think Tinkerbell! Still good after all these years. I gave a review to this place years ago just right after COVID was simmering down. We always just so enjoy the food here. From all of the Mediterranean fare to the desserts. Always enjoyable and never disappoint! They get their desserts from a place in Atlanta and they are always large and very fulfilling. Last time I was here I had the Greek salad which very much filled me up. Calzone was amazing and everyone just thoroughly enjoyed it. Service is still good and you can tell this is a family-owned operation as I believe the whole family is working here. Ambiance is also very welcoming! All-in-all, average. I've noticed quite a number of places in Asheville have a Greek / Mediterranean influence, Apollo is straight up Greek / Med. Nice place, very Med vibe, fairly large, clean. Service was very quick and attentive without hovering. My lunch was a mixed bag. I ordered the lamb and chicken gyro combo. Portions were quite large. It came with a large Greek salad, pita and tzatziki sauce. The good: the lamb was very tender and tasty, well seasoned. The pita and tzatziki sauce were delightful. The salad was OK, the veggies were fresh and crisp. The not-so-good: the house made Greek salad dressing was a disappointment. There were a ton of herbs at the bottom of the dressing bottle, but no matter how much I shook it, I couldn't get them to mix with the dressing, which ended up tasting only of the oil, which was not top of the line EVOO. The chicken was very dry and had very little flavor. I turned down a box for the leftover chicken, it wasn't worth taking home. I had noticed before I went in Yelp reviews a fair number of folks complaining about the chicken, so I'm not the only one left unimpressed. Would I go back? Maybe. If I did I'd order the straight lamb gyros and opt for a different dressing. read more

First time eating here! We Went on a dreary afternoon and for some reason got seated by an open door to the outdoor patio. It was ok as it wasn't too cold but the rest of the restaurant wasn't really busy. Our waitress was ok. My partner got refills, I wasn't asked if I wanted one. Lol. I had the cheese tortellini which I loved was tri colored!! It was very tasty! My partner had the Combo Italian platter and those stuffed shells were so yummy! Over all it was good! We were starving from our national park road trip and wanted a place to stuff our face during our commute to the next city. We were looking for a healthier option so the Greek food caught our eyes. The menu was rather confusing as only one page had Greek options and the rest were Italian/American. This places reminded me of chains in the suburb where they try to cater to different demographics and so they did a mixed cuisine instead of specializing in one. We were worried it was going to taste like one as well but we were pleasantly surprised by how tasty the foods were! We got: 1. Fried calamari 2. Steamed vegetables (nicely seasoned!) 3. Gyro platter 4. Chicken platter The portions sizes were huge. We were definitely stuffed after our meal. The food wasn't anything fancy but it was still very delicious and we were glad we stumbled upon this place. The restaurant was spacious and there was no wait during a holiday week dinner. The food here is my favorite. They have a good variety and it's all good. We usually come weekly. My husband just told me we need to consider a new favorite place. We were unhappy about the upcharge for using a debit card. So there is that fee. Then Saturday we asked for a soda refill to go and were told they have to charge for that now. My husband smiled and said never mind. I hope this isn't a new trend. Other restaurants we frequent don't charge for to go refills. I think their sodas are $2.99 anyway so that is plenty to cover. Apollo Flame Bistro was recommended to me by my hotel. I was very pleased with this recommendation. The restaurant is a mix of Greek and Italian dishes. The restaurant has inside and outside seating and does a large take out business. Service was friendly and attentive. The decor isn't fancy but that is ok as it is the food that is important. I went with the cheese ravioli and wasn't expecting the additional cheese on top but who can say no to extra cheese. I really enjoyed this dish. I have been a customer for over 20 years! I always receive excellent service when dining. When I have out of town guests, they always request to eat at Apollo Flame. This is a mixed review of food, service, and value. Hence the 3-stars. The good: *The serving sizes are huge *The meat was very well seasoned *The Greek salad was good The neutral: *The pasta is bland *The table service was average The bad: *The vegetables are just steamed and didn't seem seasoned at all. *The extra charges are ridiculous. We ordered two entrees (~$30) and one mini bottle of wine to share ($8). We asked for the carbonated water out of the soda gun instead of flat (we weren't told that would be $3.25/each instead of free, like most places), and then when we paid an additional 5-10 percent was tacked on without warning for not paying cash. Our ordered items were about $38. The "waters" added $6.50. The 5 percent added another ~$4, so it must have been after taxes, or maybe 10 percent. Either way, the extras added over 25% to our bill before they even suggested a 25 percent tip on top. Out the door for over $62 for two with 1 plate each (no appetizers), and a single glass of wine split between us. I'm just sharing this for awareness. Check your bill and ask what everything costs when you order it, and don't assume anything is included. The last time I went to Apollo Flame the prices were around 40 percent cheaper (inflation hurts!). The new higher prices plus surcharges really caught me off guard. Otherwise, it's the same experience you've always had: flavorful meat, bland veggies, huge Greek salads, pretty quick service. Just watch the tacked-on extras! read more

Two gyro plates, one lamb, one chicken, both fantastic. Each came with a salad with fresh Greek salad dressing. The major ding was the service (2.5 stars) the service was super slow from first greeting, beverage service, order taking, food delivery ect... very slow. This was my first time at this restaurant. It was recommended to me by a friend. I entered the restaurant, and there was plenty of dining space I chose a booth. A friendly waitress came to my table. She was kind and took time to explained items on the menu. You can see pictures of what I chose. When it arrived it was beautiful to look at. However, I found the chicken very dry as if it had been pre-cooked and then reheat it. The chicken breast parts were giant. I would've preferred the same amount of chicken, but cut a bit smaller or at an angle, so that it was more tender. It would've made a better sandwich. This was so thick and big by the time you stuffed it in the sandwich you couldn't open your mouth and it made biting and chewing a bit hard. The salad was absolutely delicious. I cannot complain about the Greek salad or the housemaid dressing. Both were excellent. Now, when it came to the cheesecake baklava oh my goodness! I will go there just to eat that DESERT it was absolutely delicious. I would go there just to pick up the desert and bring it home. However, eating this too often you're not gonna be able to run around anywhere to much, LOL! But it's worth going there once in a while to get the baklava cheesecake or just the baklava. The restaurant has reasonable prices well-suited to a family and children. The space is wide and open and has an attractive porch area. read more

Tables so crammed together I felt claustrophobic as well as overwhelmed by all the conversations happen around us. Gyro meat tasted like it was processed and frozen rather than cooked with the traditional method and shaved off fresh. There was nothing outstanding about the salad. I was taken there last Sunday mid afternoon for a belated birthday meal. I had been to Apollo flame before, the one in Biltmore, and it was good, but I found the place crowded and the service not as prompt. Anyway, I ordered the spaghetti with meatballs, which came with garlic bread, and a nice tossed Greek salad. We received the Greek salad within enough time to really enjoy the freshness and their Greek salad dressing is out of this world. The Greek bread was delicious as well, and when the entrée came the spaghetti and meatballs were so delicious- the homemade meatballs and the marinara sauce were just outstanding. So much, I had to take half of it home to enjoy the next day. My friend who took me decided that we should try their lemon cake for a birthday delight. When the huge slice of cake came, I managed to eat some of the cake while my friend finished it off it was absolutely and delicately made to perfection. What a birthday gift, and what a wonderful meal to celebrate. I will be coming back there again to enjoy some other dishes. read more

Sub and fries you stick with what you know, my wife wanted to try the chicken fettuccine Alfredo and it comes with a side house salad she asked for blue cheese dressing I ordered a beer well our waitress looked very young we ordered our mr pibb when you bring our food not before, so she goes off and comes back with all our drinks and I just got through telling her not to bring them until you bring the food meantime I'm still waiting on my beer then she says oh somebody from the back is gonna get your beer, ok then some guy from the kitchen brings my and of course had to go back and get the lime I ordered, my wife's salad was not very fresh some of it was wilted the blue cheese dressing was terrible, they brought our food out and the sub I got was skimpy lot less amount in the bun my wife's fettuccine was cold and so dry there was barely any sauce at all so my wife asked for a dish of sauce and the waitress said yes I've told them that there's not enough sauce on that dish so we waited and waited and she came by and said oh the cook said he would cook you some more well it's too late we're already aggravated so I said no just take it off the bill and you can have it back she can't eat that it's cold and so dry it's terrible well we can get you something else wanna try spaghetti, no thank you just take it off the bill,we had ordered a LG Meat Delight pizza to go and my wife said she would just have a slice of that, well I asked for a to go box and then they brought the pizza it is smaller than it used to be and I opened the lid and all the toppings were piled in the center part of the pizza there was 2 1/2 inches of empty pizza around the edge I had to spread the toppings out myself so it would look right, so we get ready to leave and the waitress brought the bill and walked away, I had to wave her back and tell her you forgot to take that fettuccine off the bill she said oh you want me to take it off the bill I said yes we're not going to pay for something we can't or get to eat, so she left again and we waited and waited and waited, I had to flag her down again and she said that the manager was the only one who can fix it as soon as he gets unbusy I will get him to fix it Oh my wife's blood pressure went sky high Oh no your not going to leave us sitting here while you walk around waiting on other tables while we just sit here,oh I'll go tell him right now, we still waited and finally I got up and I said if they don't care we'll just leave we got our pizza and headed to the counter and then the manager said oh what was supposed to be wrong with your ticket I said she didn't take off the fettuccine we couldn't eat he said I can still charge you for the side salad I said ok, charged us 8 dollars for a little wilted side salad that wasn't very good I said that's a good way to chase off your customers he said oh sorry I said that's fine there definitely won't be a tip on this ticket paid the bill and said yes honey you were right we should have went to Papa's and Beer!! read more

Had lunch at Apollo Flame while vacationing in the area. It's in a strip mall on a major intersection, and the noise level was very high. The food however was good. The veggie pizza had a somewhat thick, albeit light crust and had a good assortment of vegetables and just enough cheese. The chicken giro that my friend had was "excellent" according to him. The side greek salad was also very good. Prices are reasonable. Plenty of parking in the lot right in front of the restaurant. A good choice in the area for casual Greek dining. read more

My wife and I wanted a relaxing meal while in Asheville and fokund Apollo Flame. Very understated in a strip mall, this restaurant offered a unique blend and Greek and Greek/Italian fare. The Greek salad was excellent and when you use the homemade dressing, it was incredible. I had the Big Fat Greek Special which included the Greek salad, Greek meatballs, lamb slices and delicious juicy chicken. I loved it. My wife had a pasta with several cheeses and chicken which she enjoyed. My wife wanted wine, but ended up getting some burgundy in a can which was horrible. Don't order it. They have a great selection. Our waitress was super !! She was friendly and helpful. We chose the Mediterranean Pizza. It didn't take too long to come out. Heavy on toppings. It was quite good !!! We had enough leftover for lunch tomorrow. Now, let's talk about cake. I saw the cakes in the case when we came into the restaurant. They have cheesecakes as well as regular cakes. We shared a slice of peppermint cake. OMG !!! Don't leave without trying the cake.. it's $6 but enough for 2 or even 3 people. The center of the restaurant is pretty open so servers and customers are going around each other hoping to not collide. Our server took our drink order immediately. I got the side salad with greek dressing. That dressing was so tasty! I would buy a bottle if they were selling it. For my main entree, I got a lasagna. It's RARE to find a place that makes meat sauce that's beef only. You would know this if you didn't eat pork. I was really excited for that. It did not disappoint! The lasagna was a personal size that I think they make to order! It was DELICIOUS- THE BEST lasagna I've ever had at a restaurant. My husband got the gyro and equally enjoyed it.
