Met a friend here for brunch a couple weekends ago, and it was amazing! We arrived around 11am, and the parking lot was packed! We were seated in a booth near the corner, and it was a great place to visit and talk. I enjoyed the French toast with blueberries and a side of crispy bacon. Just delicious! My friend ordered an entree that had eggs, crab meat, and hash browns and raved about it as well. Service was very good - attentive but not hovering. Wife picked Stoney Knob for her birthday dinner while we were in town for the weekend from Nashville. Made reservations a week in advance since it is popular & we were coming on a Saturday night. had to call to do this but the staff were quick with the booking. We were staying on the north side of Asheville a few minutes from downtown & this was a quick 12 drive to Weaverille. Place was packed when we arrived 10 mins early for our seating. We waited maybe 3 mins though & were in our booth.The vibe here is something else. Decor is eclectic but layout mimics the vintage diner that it resembles from the outside. Very casual but doesnt necessarily feel that way. Menu isnt extensive so you dont have to fret about too many choices which i personally like. We started off with the seasonal watermelon salad which my wife says is one of her favorite things shes had anywhere in recent memory. I had a side portion of the steak wedge salad. For mains i had the carolina shrimp & grits & my wife got the pot pie. Both were insanely rich & satisfying. Good portions & quality ingredients represented. Even though at this point we were stuffed we had to go for dessert & tried the omg peanut butter pie & the tiramisu. not surprisingly, both were excellent. Apparently they have a dedicated pastry chef who makes the desserts every morning. Service was really good here and my sister in law's friend who was working the bar came over and raved about being employed there which is good to hear. While staying in town for wife's birthday weekend. We decided to check this place out for dinner. I liked the decor. We didn't have reservations, but were able to grab a spot at the bar. Started with cocktails. We decided to split the octopus appetizer and the Greek plate with souvlaki. . It was my first time trying octopus and I really enjoyed it. Shockingly good food in a funky little spot on the side of a country road. I have had the Szechwan Salmon Stir Fry several times. It is so good I can't seem to be able to order anything else! We went for brunch on a Sunday and had a fabulous time! Our server, Lauren, was a trooper, covering her very busy section and more due to a staffing shortage with a smile and a good attitude. The place is full of kitschy decore that truly works well and sets the mood for a fun time! We enjoyed the delicious Bloody Mary special and two OPA! Date of visit: September 17, 2024 Came here with a large group and really appreciated the spacious room in the back that was able to accomodate all of us; I surely didn't think there would be room for all of us at first glance at the exterior! In another way that Stoney Knob was surprising was its menu; I did not expect a strong Greek influence in the outskirts of Asheville, NC! I didn't need a large lunch so I went with the lemon chicken soup and it was a pleasant surprise. It was also one of the only things that I would not need to customize or adjust and I try not to do that, especially with a new place. Where the restaurant really shines is in the desserts; both the Peanut Butter Pie and the Key Lime pie were amazing, and I'm not really a fan of Key Lime! Don't let the trailer homes on the hill north of the restaurant scare you off, there is a lot to like at the Stoney Knob. read more

The outside might not look like much but when you go inside it's eclectic, you might see a pink unicorn with a gold horn, bear skin rug hanging on the wall or fireplaces. The brunch menu was amazing and everything looked and sounded good. I'm a French Toast kind of girl especially if you make it with Challah Bread and that's what I got blackberry french toast stuffed with orange cream cheese (no syrup needed). Every bite was a perfect blend of blackberry, orange cream cheese and challah bread. He ordered the shrimp and grits and you better believe I have a bite (or two). The grits were simply amazing. The Asiago cheese in the grits took them to another level, topped with shrimp and that delicious cream sauce SO GOOD!! While visiting North Carolina for a special wedding, the groom's parents (long-time friends) invited us to join them at the Stoney Knob Cafe for dinner, prior to the day of the wedding. The Stoney Knob had a great menu, filled with Greek and Mediterranean-inspired entrees. My choice was so delicious! I ordered My Big Fat Greek Plate. It included a choice of marinated pork souvlaki, lamb gyro meat, or chicken. It was plated with spanakopita, Greek salad, tzatziki sauce, and pita bread. I chose the lamb gyro meat, which was quite tasty! Everyone in our party of five ordered a different and interesting entree. We all loved the Stoney Knob and its unique ambience. Been going to Stoney Knob for at least 8 years. The service and wait staff are always wonderful, but they have been short lately on consistency and quality of food. For example, we had two exact orders of the lunch Greek platters. One order had no feta but lots of onions and olives, while the other Greek platter had no onions and no feta. Both salads were not crisp and fresh, and were drenched in dressing. Although the lunch pamphlet said the Greek platter included Spanakopita we didn't get them in our order. When we did ask for it, it came very late as we were about to pay and had to take it home. The back cook staff seems to be off the last year on service which is sad because we never know what to expect lately. We did not want to complain because our waitress was sweet and she was very busy. We hope the cook staff pays more attention to detail in the future. read more

I came in fordinnerand brought my Service Dog. The lady insisted that I would have to show paperwork, I referred to the ADA law, which clearly states that you do not need paperwork. Stoney Knob Cafe has always been a favorite of ours but I don't hear many folks talk about it when they're planning their visit to Asheville. It's tucked away on the side of the road in a funky, eclectic trailer/house. You walk inside and are immediately greeted with eccentric decor, wild wallpaper, and large statues of the Virgin Mary. Their food matches their decor and consists of funky takes on classic favorites. For brunch, I love their Opa Platter and Chorizo Breakfast Burrito but my favorite meal to have there is dinner! Their dinner menu has so many options but I'd vote for the scallops and pork belly every single time (except in the winter, then I go for the deconstructed chicken pot pie). read more

My family and I have been long time patrons of Stoney Knob. Our last visit was so disappointing. All meals were grease laden! I got the Mediterranean Greek platter and the salad was wilted and drenched in dressing... the spanakopita was greasy ... like it was fried in oil... very unappealing. My son had fettuccine and the chicken was dry... my daughter had lamb tacos... and the taco was dripping in oil also. She returned her dish and got the pork belly and scallops... another fail! Scallops texture were mushy... and sauces tasted funky. My daughter never sends her food back. Bottom line is SK has lost our family business... we are so disappointed. WENT there EARLY at 4:00 with multiple(I counted 6) empty tables and the teenage wait staff said we would need a reservation to eat and it would be an hour wait with at least a half dozen open tables. This is the 2nd time this has happened and we are local and won't be returning. Went to Siam Thai which has never refused serving us food. Food was ok the last time they allowed us to eat it. read more

While I was disappointed they don't take reservations for larger parties, the wait wasn't too bad and there were good chats and people watching huddled into the foyer on a rainy morning. I've been here twice. I will be back again. The shrimp and grits were awesome! A good size portion. The prices aren't cheap. I'd say you get what you pay for at this restaurant. The atmosphere is nice. I would say there are some tight squeezes if you sit at the bar. I'm not sure how the wait staff fits behind the bar. The peanut butter pie was delicious. So cold... it is sooo sooo cold in here! We wished the fireplace was working! The food was decent but I couldn't enjoy it because I was trying to eat it quickly as it was getting cold. Our server was kind but not very observant. One of my friends accidentally spilled her water all over the table. Our server didn't notice even after we'd cleaned it all up and had a pile of napkins in the center of the table. We had to ask for more napkins and instead of handing us each a new one, she dropped a pile on the table. I know it's a popular place but we probably won't return. We both elected to have the HERBACEOUS CHICKEN SALAD A creamy herb chicken salad paired with fresh fruit, sundried cranberries & grilled pita bread. It was delicious. I prefer shredded chicken in chicken salad, but I have to admit this chicken salad was really good with small chunks of chicken. Since it was my friends birthday we decided to split a slice of coconut pie. Our waitress was so accommodating and split the pie before she brought it to our table. Our first visit went well and it was packed. The decor is very eclectic and entertaining. The entire restaurant was clean and inviting. Now for the FOOD...bisque and duck spring rolls for appetizers, both delicious and we finished both quickly. Our entree's were Salmon Deliciouso which lived up to its name and Chicken Pot Pie with crispy pastry, loads of chicken, peas, carrots and Chèvre cheese. We shared dessert and chose Rice Pudding Brûlée and it was excellent and exceptional in taste, texture and flavor. Our server was Lexi and she was very attentive and helpful. The bathrooms are only half of it. They were clean and I liked the kitschy decor. The entire place is really a beautiful cacophony of imagery throughout. Our waiter, Patrick was absolutely amazing, super attentive and helpful. Hubby went with the lamb tacos while I had scallops and pork belly, after a delicious lobster bisque and duck appetizer. Which we followed up with a coconut cream and deep dish Keylime pie. Gastronomic perfection we will definitely be returning.
