Well, we've been talking about going here for a while now. Finally today we decided to go. Best sandwich ever. I got the Apothecary club. Ham, Turkey,bacon Swiss and cheddar with pickles, lettuce and tomatoes on a rustic Italian bread. A pickle and house chips on the side with onion dip. Soooo good. Mike got the kimchi grilled cheese. Five stars for the service and beers. Two stars for the pretzel. I see alot of mixed reviews on this place. Granted, I showed up on a wednesday night in February that was surprisingly warm. Maybe it would be radically different during the football season or on a weekend night, but I can only attest to what I experienced. They have a good range of beers in variety, from traditional germans, sours, stouts, or IPAs. Our waitress was matter of fact, but also was able to strike up a conversation with us once she found out we were from out of town. My friend ordered the pretzel and I thought it was terrible. Granted not everybite was awful, but overall, it was too dense, not fluffy at all, and dried up within 7 minutes. read more

There were 40 beers on tap, and the bartender helped us pick a couple of local brews. She also answered our questions about the food. To ordering beer and the bartender seemed genuinely annoyed that we asked questions. To the rudeness when ordering food that we didn't know how it worked. To top it all off, we were here for parents weekend for the first time, sat at a table like we were told, and then we were promptly told the kids were not allowed after 7 and the second our food was gone they were not welcome. Disgusting service. First time I have been less than satisfied in WVU. Will never be back and will never recommend anyone. Super helpful staff. Chimay on tap. The ability to take home crowlers full of beer i can't get locally. Small indoor seating, but a nice outdoor area for warmer months. The tender was surprised we came just for takeout and handed us some free swag just for buying 70+ dollars worth of beer in crowlers. The one caveat is parking. There's street parking but spaces fill quickly. There's a pay parking lot with a few spots about a block away. The best part- the closest place to find pickle beer without driving to Pittsburgh. The Apothecary Ale House has a dark, yet fun vibe. Located in the heart of downtown Morgantown, it was easy to find, yet secluded enough to not have a huge crowd of people. My mom and I ordered a couple beers here while we played a game of Uno. I liked the shadowy ambiance and the varied types of people that were drinking here as well. My only small issue was that the beer was more expensive than I'd like. The prices are about a dollar over what a 'normal' pint of a craft beer should be in my opinion. read more

Apothecary has quickly climbed the list of great bars in Morgantown. In fact, as far as draft lists and casual hangouts are concerned, Apothecary is probably as good as it gets in the area. I'm a little confused as to the ownership: I know it used to be Jay's Getaway but has since changed names and owners. But a lot of the same faces and a lot of the same beers remained, so it feels more like a smooth handoff in the backfield. Either way, I love this place. So why not the full-fledged five star? Mostly capacity concerns, really. I have enjoyed my visits to Apothecary but have yet to come on a night when I can comfortably sit - well, anywhere. I've had several very good trips to Apothecary and have been impressed with their draft list, prominently displayed in chalk along the main wall when you walk in. But given the surfeit of people crowding not just the entrance, but also the length of the bar, I'm starting to believe seats are little more than myth in this place. Even on a Thursday night, I found the place inordinately crowded. Hey, I'm happy to see business booming at Apothecary, but only find myself wishing that it was a little more convenient to sit and enjoy a great beer. Let me reiterate: I love the vibe, the people, and the beer list at Apothecary. The only drawback is that crazy crowd, which though undoubtedly a boon to the business owner, can be something of a burden for their patrons. Aside from the very friendly staff, what I enjoy most is the opportunity for a wide variety of WV-brewed beers and comfy couches. I've spent many a night, and a few wee hours of the early morning more. The Apothecary has become my group of friends' standard for New Years Eve as well, even if we have to fly in from out of town for it. There is a small, but sufficient food menu, which includes cheese, pretzels, paninis, and a muffaletta which are all very good. We are middle age, with two children attending WVU. We stopped in here because we had been here some time ago and just felt like a change from our normal routine. The service was fine, and the patrons sitting at the bar were fun to talk to. We ordered a meat & cheese tray and a panini. The food was fine, we enjoyed it. If you want to meet up for drinks in Morgantown, and none of the stops include the Apothecary Ale House, let's just call it a night and not even bother. Since it's quiet opening, this now-redoubtable establishment has become the absolute favorite pub in Morgantown and for a good reason: Humble and warm interiors, a surprisingly extensive beer selection, a limited but effective and smart food selection, quiet location, excellent staff, and super cool and friendly owner/manager. For too long, Morgantown has been in need for a quiet and sophisticated kind of laid back bar with good selections of beer and wine. Some of the martini bars have definitely satisfied that yearning for many, but a place downtown is what was truly needed - away from all the raucous college bars and night-clubs. There is a nice subtle background music with a good selection of music and while small, the seating layout is smart - many high tables that can accommodate 5 people easily as well as plenty of space at the bar. The crowd is always friendly and kind of polar opposite of the insanity seen on High Street nearby. As for the beer selection, there are many and the bar-tenders always help make decisions. In my most recent visit, I wanted something a little on the dark and smooth but flavorful side and was treated to a sweet chocolate kind of stout called the Chocolate & Chili stout. Very intriguing and very nice - kind of buttresses the idea that chocolate and chili go really well together. Since I know so little about beer in general, this is where I comfortably like to try different kinds of brews. I really like going here. If you're a hipster in Morgantown, you might call this place home. We came here to celebrate my friend finishing grad school and it was a great place all around. Tons and tons of beer options available, and if you're not a sophisticated beer drinker like I am, the servers are happy to suggest something for you. By the bar there's a huge board with names and scores and across that is a cabinet for people to keep track of the beers they try. I thought this was awesome and it would certainly have me coming back if I lived in the area. We stopped in for an after dinner drink and saw they had card games and board games to play so we played some UNO and had a beer. The crowd was pretty chill and we enjoyed the ambiance, however the cards were very old and sticky so I would probably suggest to get some fresh cards in there, it was hard to play with them sticking together....
