I know this isn't Star Search, but Yelp really should let us use fractions in our ratings. If they did, I would give Iron Horse Tavern ... drumroll ... three-and-three-quarter stars (Ed McMahon voice)! But Yelp doesn't, and since 3.75 is closer to 4 than it is to 3 (right?), 4 stars it is. Whew, that's all the math I care to do today. My pulled pork nachos were not my favorite. It could have been a user error, though -- I didn't see on the menu that the cheese they were using was beer cheese. I just saw "pulled pork" and my mind went blank, and I had to order the nachos. In my opinion, a little beer cheese goes a long way, and these nachos had lots and lots of beer cheese. The only other ingredients on the nachos were jalapeno and a sprinkling of chives, so they were a little one-note. I think a different cheese and adding something else (avocado, maybe? Or beans? Green onions?) would have helped. We also got the mac and cheese, both the adult size and the child size. I was told that the mac and cheese was good, and both portions were huge. In fact, the child's-size mac and cheese was almost as large as the adult size. The kids menu has all of the kid heavy hitters, like chicken tenders, a smash burger, grilled cheese and a chicken sandwich. Kids meals come with chips or apple slices. We also got the Beets & Greens salad, which is a mixed-green salad with roasted red and yellow beets, green apple, candied walnuts, goat cheese and a poppy seed vinaigrette. This was honestly the best thing we ordered, and I think if I were to visit again, I'd get a salad. Iron Horse has eight salads on their menu, which is quite a lot, for a pub-type place. Actually, I'd get a salad and one of their handmade pierogis. Whenever a restaurant hand-makes something, you should always get that! I usually do, but got caught up in thinking about pulled pork. Oh well. The service here was great. The restaurant itself is nice, with a huge bar area that takes up about half of the restaurant. The atmosphere is hard to beat and the staff are always friendly and helpful with any questions. The burgers... I would put them up against just about anywhere, as well as their Mac and cheese. There are gluten free options too, which is nice to have in Morgantown. The burgers are so flavorful. It is nice that you can create your own burger and select your burger options on a paper. Located in downtown, this spot is pretty easy to get to. Had a lemon fizz which was a mock tail-this basically was kind of like lemonade. My family & I have been here many times to dine in. The food was always good, servers friendly, atmosphere busy & fun. Unfortunately we had an extremely negative experience this weekend. I normally order online for takeout to put things in writing & make sure everything is correct. Easy & clear for everyone that way. This weekend their online ordering system was out (or turned off?) so I took a chance & called them to see if I could place an order that way. I tried to be clear over the phone, though it was incredibly noisy on her end & difficult for either of us to hear each other. Of course a mistake was made & something was wrong when we went to pick it up. No big deal, right? They were busy, the place was loud as it could be. I totally understand. I simply asked them to correct it, so I could get what I ordered. I was happy to wait, I was nice & patient. What I got from Callie (the manager) was the nastiest, rudest & unkindest response I've ever had in customer service anywhere. She was so awful I was left with my jaw hanging. My order was grudgingly corrected. I was blamed, condescended to & told off. I left feeling shocked, upset & frankly appalled. Who talks to paying customers like that?! And this is the person you have in charge of your restaurant? Yikes. I spent $85, leaving a nice tip for a take out order. I can't think of a reason in the world that I deserved to be spoken to that way. As a business owner myself I can't imagine ever speaking to a client that way - or anyone else for that matter. I understand that people are busy & stressed. But it is not my fault that your ordering system was down, that your restaurant was packed, that it was loud when I called. What could have been a simple issue, easily overcome was turned into such a nasty interaction that I don't know that I'll ever go back there. I was in Morgantown with a group of five recently, and it was on a moist, chilly Saturday evening. We walked into Iron Horse Tavern with hyperactive appetites, so we were pleased to be welcomed by an energetic hostess who promised little waiting time. After sourcing myself a seat, I had to endure the pain of a pulsating kneecap after striking it against the iron pipe which held up the bar. After gimping my battered up body over toward the nearby booth, I decided it was time to test my luck at the establishment's lavatory, and at one person capacity, waiting for my term in Oval Office was nearly an utter disaster.
