Chestnut Brew Works is a small taproom located in a neighborhood in Morgantown WV. It has three tables and a bar. What they are missing in size, they have in flavor in their beer. They do not offer flights but were willing to allow me to try a couple of the beers before I ordered. The funny thing is that they brought the samples out in the glasses you need to offer a flight, so it seems like it could be done. I had a glass of the No Good Deed Strawberry Milkshake beer. It was hoppy like an IPA but they add some lactose to the beer to give it a slight creaminess. read more

This small town craft brewery located off the downtown strip of Morgantown is a great place to go! The place is a little hipster but the beer selection is great! They are always releasing new beers in the taproom and if you go when a brewer is there they will give you a small tour of the place! It's a small taproom so sometimes it gets a little noisy. They have a tv and will put on anything they have, even some Netflix shows if it's not busy! I love their beer and would highly recommend it! read more

Hard to find, directions take you to the wrong place and their building has a small sign and is very easy to miss. When you do finally find it there is no where to park. They have a tiny "parking lot" which is mostly blocked by a power pole and filled with "friends of the owner" and the street parking in this area is permit only. So you have to park in a garage over half a mile away, great strategy. Their beer is average at best and some of them are downright bad. The Stout tasted like cleaning products, or maybe there was just soap left in the glass. The bar tender was condescending and talked down to both myself and my wife about the beer and was wrong about most of it. We decided to order a flight so that we could try all 6 beers they had on tap, one of the glasses had lipstick on it meaning that it hadn't been washed after the last person drank from it (see pic). And despite being told the flight was 6 beers we got tasters on 5, along with a small glass of the 6th which the bar tender then tried to guilt me over when I went to pay my bill. There are so many great bars and restaurants in Morgantown that offer a wide range of beers, including Haleck Pale Ale the one decent beer from Chestnut, that are all far superior in selection, service and atmosphere. This place needs to go back to the drawing board, come up with some good brews and then sell them to other pubs and leave it at that. read more

The beers earn the stars here for sure. My friend and I stopped by during a wild and wonderful Wednesday road trip to WV. Wednesdays Chestnut offers infusion specials and we were able to experience the infusion of their Shakedown IPA with grapefruit, ginger and cardamom. Can't say enough about how great it was. We also tried the Wheatwater, not a bad second choice. For anyone curious about visiting, it may be best to find a local establishment that serves beer from Chestnut Brew Works as opposed to getting it from the source if you're just looking to drink their beers. The taproom is very small and while they do offer a few snacking options, they don't always have everything available. Parking is also not ideal. There is nowhere to park on the street in front of Chestnut. There is parking next to their building but there are only 3 or 4 spots. We had to drive around for a bit to find parking and almost gave up. I'm glad we didn't because Chestnut Brew Works had the best beer we tried all day. If you're a fan of small breweries it's worth a stop to meet the owners and see the facility, maybe grab a flight or a couple pints. If you live nearby, I'd recommend stopping by frequently for a pint when you get a growler full. The beer is good and worth your time. The taproom is nice, but utilitarian. It would be a much better setting if the taproom was bigger. read more

If you catch it on the right night you'll have a blast. Molly deserves a gold medal for her excellent customer service skills and overall just being a very personable person. Other nights it's rough. I actually went in at 5:30 one day to get a gift card for a friend and waited nearly 20 minutes to even be acknowledged. One of my favorite things about this place was I could meet up with my friend and our dogs to hang out. The one bartender has particularly been trying to make it so that it's only the dogs she wants to be there. My friend and his dog go there quite frequently and had a particular issue where the bartender would not serve him because of a "situation" with the dog. Basically it's high school all over with this bitch and if you aren't in her cliche she's better than you. Well sorry hunny it's not true. And Molly is a better bartender than you. ‍ read more

For craft beer fans across the state, Chestnut has been making quite a name for itself in recent years. When the tap room finally opened, it quickly drew my attention, as well as craft beer fans around Morgantown. To be perfectly clear, Chestnut has some of the best beer in West Virginia, if not they best. Their hopped-up IPA's are filled with flavor and nuance, perfectly blending their malt, hop, carbonation, and variety of characteristics into dank-and-interesting brews. Their dark beers refuse to be timid or forgotten, and even their lighter Wheatwater is packed with flavor, while as drinkable and approachable as any wheat beer should be. I've been consistently impressed with the quality and creativeness of Chestnut Brew Works' beer. There beer is not to be missed, especially if you haven't had a Chestnut beer before. Get any of them, they're all good. On most nights, you'll be able to have a quick chat with one of the brewers. And even if Bill (the head brewer) isn't around, any of the other bar staff are super knowledgeable and love chatting beer. Definitely a fun visit. To be frank, though, if you are familiar with their beer, there's little reason to visit their taproom more than once or twice. It's a very tight spot, with only a few tables and chairs, and it can fit maybe 10 people comfortably. It's great to grab a quick beer, but it's not really a very reliable hangout spot. Noise can be an issue even with just 6 or 7 people in the taproom. That being said, there ARE reasons to visit: special events, limited openings, infused beers, casks, and other notable occurrences are fairly common. I'd definitely check out their Facebook and see if there's anything worth putting on your calendar (there probably is!) While this location doesn't merit a regular visit, it definitely is my favorite beer in the area, and with plenty of special (and usually spontaneous) events and the super friendly staff have left a very positive mark. read more

Was very happy to see a new South Park neighborhood bar open and stopped there with a friend last week. Service was fast and friendly and the brew I tried (Wheatwater) was delicious. Unfortunately, the awful acoustics in the place, due to all the plate glass and metal ceilings resulted in a deafening echo-ey din, even with just 6 customers in there. No one was talking particularly loudly, but because the bar is very small and no apparent thought went into the acoustics, my tablemate and I could barely hold a conversation. I wish them luck hope they stay open, but unless/until they install some acoustic tiles or other noise-cancelling measures, I won't be back. read more
