Gene's has been in Morgantown forever. It was one of my go-to stops in college 30 years ago and it still is today. You really can't beat the dogs for the price, which is further enhanced by the charming setting. It is nice to know that somethings don't change. I live in D.C. and there is something really American about having a chili cheese dog and a PBR for around $5, I hate when I see some of the D.C. "gourmet" hotdog shops jack up the price for what is basically the same dog I get at Gene's Gene's regulars are also very friendly, and I could spend hours listen to some of the regulars talk about the old days. In short, Gene's is a nice change from other Morgantown bars..in a way coming to Gene's is like coming home

This place is awesome. Located in a neighborhood. When you first walked in, I noticed the cool old school décor. Love the atmosphere and mood to this place. Very cozy. Drinks were cheap and bartender and even the locals were extra friendly. I heard they are known for making great hot dogs, so I got one. It was bomb! Very simple with a good flavor. If I ever come back to Morgantown, this would be the first bar I hit.

Gene's has been a fixture in Morgantown since 1944. Cheap beer, good times, loyal regulars and hot dogs are the mainstays of this town landmark. I come back here every time I visit home (sometimes it's my first stop). There is no other bar in Morgantown quite like this one. Gene's is an old school place...a throwback of sorts. You step inside and you step back in time a bit. Gene's is also great for Mountaineer or Steeler gameday and it's one of the few places in town where, during the summer, you can watch the Pirates lose twice. Food recommendatoins: I eat my hotdog with chili, slaw, ketchup, and onion. The chili-cheese pepperoni roll is some of the best drunk food of all time. Do not get the cheese plate. The bartenders might be crabby and the patrons surly, but it's all just part of the Gene's Nation Experience. I have to update this to add in a comment about the music. Gene's has been doing a great job of getting shows on the weekend and I've actually come back into Morgantown to check out a few. Mostly local acts a few out-of-towners do a good job livening up the place on occasional Fridays and Saturdays. The Gene's Nation Facebook page usually has updates on the schedule, but not until the week of a show.

    On my late night thirsty!

The Realest of the real when it comes to classic dive bars. They always have the best variety of local beers and snacks. Food here is pretty solid for bar food, nothing crazy but the hotdogs are enough to get you in the door. Pepperoni rolls on deck and they warm them up for you. Genes is perfect if you wanna wants to grab a few with your squad or a late night stop on your way home and wanted another beer or grub if not both. The Wildcard: Lucy, I promise you won't find another bartender like her!

Good beers on tap, nice booths, often great live music. A perfect neighborhood bar. Haven't tried the hotdogs but people seem to like them.

I know this isn't Star Search, but Yelp really should let us use fractions in our ratings. If they…read moredid, I would give Iron Horse Tavern ... drumroll ... three-and-three-quarter stars (Ed McMahon voice)! But Yelp doesn't, and since 3.75 is closer to 4 than it is to 3 (right?), 4 stars it is. Whew, that's all the math I care to do today. My pulled pork nachos were not my favorite. It could have been a user error, though -- I didn't see on the menu that the cheese they were using was beer cheese. I just saw "pulled pork" and my mind went blank, and I had to order the nachos. In my opinion, a little beer cheese goes a long way, and these nachos had lots and lots of beer cheese. The only other ingredients on the nachos were jalapeno and a sprinkling of chives, so they were a little one-note. I think a different cheese and adding something else (avocado, maybe? Or beans? Green onions?) would have helped. We also got the mac and cheese, both the adult size and the child size. I was told that the mac and cheese was good, and both portions were huge. In fact, the child's-size mac and cheese was almost as large as the adult size. The kids menu has all of the kid heavy hitters, like chicken tenders, a smash burger, grilled cheese and a chicken sandwich. Kids meals come with chips or apple slices. We also got the Beets & Greens salad, which is a mixed-green salad with roasted red and yellow beets, green apple, candied walnuts, goat cheese and a poppy seed vinaigrette. This was honestly the best thing we ordered, and I think if I were to visit again, I'd get a salad. Iron Horse has eight salads on their menu, which is quite a lot, for a pub-type place. Actually, I'd get a salad and one of their handmade pierogis. Whenever a restaurant hand-makes something, you should always get that! I usually do, but got caught up in thinking about pulled pork. Oh well. The service here was great. The restaurant itself is nice, with a huge bar area that takes up about half of the restaurant. This looks like a nice place to watch sports and get a beer or something.

I was looking for a nice bar for a cocktail and appetizer by myself, and I found the Anvil and Ax (inside the Hotel Morgan) menu via google and decided to stop. Street parking is available all around. The doorman was so nice! There were several couples at the bar, so I sat at one of the tables near the bar. It took a while for the bartender to come over to me and give me a menu. I ordered the french martini and asked if there was a food menu available. She said they didn't serve food until later in the day, even though the online menu said otherwise. My martini was great. Service was subpar. She set my martini on the edge of the bar and I had to go up and get it- no big deal, I just thought it was odd since they weren't busy. The bartender never came back over to me; I went up to the bar to close out and pay my bill like 15 minutes after I finished my drink. There are certainly some kinks to work out, especially with service, but this place has potential to be very nice!
