Apple, Think Different. Unless you are Senior Manager Ed Ryan, who claims to excel in "reading situations quickly and acting courageously", when in reality he manages to do nothing more than parrot the policy of a trillion-dollar corporation. In the Covid era, simple trips to the Apple store no longer exist. Especially, when you are traveling with people who are immunocompromised. I wheeled my father to our first appointment and purchased him a new iPhone. The employee we worked with was very nice and apologized for not being able to help with my AirPod request in that session. I understood and thanked him for his help. I waited for my next appointment in front of the store. A few employees were outside checking people in, while others were idly standing by and watching me. Eventually the senior manager, Ed Ryan, came over and offered to help. I explained I previously talked to Apple support about a rather widespread problem with the AirPods Pro. These expensive ($250) wireless earbuds have a known issue where they develop a terrible crackling sound. As the senior manager, I was hoping that Ed would be able to just swap out the AirPods Pro with a new pair. While they did not have the right AirPod in service stock, they did have plenty of retail AirPods Pro. Ed was not at all amenable to my situation. I explained to him how I am currently unable to receive mail. I had already spoken with another employee about how difficult it was to get to the store, due to my father being wheelchair bound and immunocompromised. I was hoping Ed would sympathize with me from a human perspective instead of acting like the embodiment of cold soulless corporate culture. Ed offered "solutions" that would require me to either go to this same Apple store again or receive a package in the mail. Knowing one of these options would not work and having seen my father already and having heard our concerns about shopping during the pandemic, Ed knew he was not really offering me anything that would help. This location suffers from an acute form of the apple customer service model--acting like talking a lot is extra super helpful when in fact it's not only not helping, but also wasting time that could be used doing something else. It's an especially good location if you don't mind not completing your purchase because the staff is so busy talking that you run out of time and have to go. If you have a question, the numerous unoccupied Apple specialists on the floor won't know how to help you. Only the technicians know anything. The only problem is that the computer says that every technician is booked... but they feel good because they have seven people unoccupied and ready to talk and talk to you about why they can't help. I'm glad they feel good. I'd feel better if they staffed more technicians during peak hours or hired other staff who had a better understanding of the products. read more

Wasn't able to enter the store, would be very helpful if it was posted online that the store is only open for pick up despite the fact there are several people inside. I was interested in a watch but wanted to see the color in person. In order to do that I would have to buy it. The store's redo is less than exciting to me but we're stuck with it. I continue to love Apple products but think it's time to create something of a new WOW factor. This would have been negative stars if it wasn't for the assistant manager and a technician. WARNING: Never and I mean NEVER let anyone but a technician touch your phone. A sales person said he could fix the problem between my iPhone and my iPad. Well, he succeeded in deleting my whole contact list. He then took my phone and disappeared outback. He did not know how to restore it. When I told him he should not have touched it because he was not a technician, he copped an attitude and said if you don't like my service I guess this is the end of our meeting and left. I bought an iPad online through Apple and when it arrived, I wasn't quite sure how to set it up in conjunction with my iPhone, iCloud, and iDontKnow... so I took it to the Apple store in Hingham on a Saturday night during the dinner hour. It was mobbed. Yet, they still worked with me one-on-one and helped me get things set up including apps, contacts, emails, and pictures. All my questions were answered and I was even invited back for one of their "Welcome to IPad" seminars. My only gripe is the few times I've had to pop into the store to pick up something fast -- gift card, extra mouse, extra cable, etc -- I am never out of the store within 20 minutes. However, the staff is extremely professional and knowledgable and I will be back for my next Apple purchase! read more

I'm a professional writer and I make a living with my MacBook Air. I brought my 2011 model in for a new battery, a few new keys, and a new OS. The technician repaired my MacBook Air and now it is as good as new. I love my MacBook Air and it has been with me on numerous missions. The "let's go clubbing!" atmosphere of the Apple store is not to my liking and at times it can be crowded. But the technical people there delivered and I am profoundly grateful to have my Mac operating in peak form again. The store completed the repair in less than four days. If you can, try to visit on any day except Saturday as it can be quite crowded. The selection of new products is quite good. The selection of accessories for existing products is a bit thin. ZERO STARS!!!! Came to this Apple Store with swiping issues, left with (questionable) genius, Meg DELETING 600+ notes from my phone!!!! Let me tell you the long version... was on vacation in MA, and phone suddenly was acting up and couldn't swipe. Hubs suggested I stop in a store to have my phone checked out. Gave them name, waited for genius to see me. Started with genius wasn't able to find me; apparently I was sitting in the "wrong" area - maybe if I was directed where to go in the first place...??? Plus, the store isn't even that big. Meg "finally" found me and I told her my problem. She asked if I dropped my phone... (doesn't everybody drop their phone at some point??) Sure, I said but not unusually hard that I cracked a screen or anything; plus I had a protective case. Anyway, within 5 minutes of fidgeting with my phone (not telling me what she was doing,) she says, "Apple says I dropped my phone, and it cannot be fixed so I need to replace with a new one." In other words, I need to BUY A NEW PHONE. Ugh, that was upsetting but figured I'd deal with that when I return home. Before she let me go, she asked if I backed up my stuff on iCloud and I said I didn't. Meg suggested I do and again, I said I would when I return home, but she said let her at least back up my notes. More fidgeting with my phone and then making a comment that I have 600+ notes and it might take a while... then done. I left the store, and mid route to Scituate, realized I don't see ANY notes on my phone!?!?!? I immediately called an Apple specialist and they didn't see anything on the cloud either. Freaking out, my hubs turned around and headed back to store. Upon returning, I asked to speak to manager and she told Meg to come back - she asked to see my phone and I said no. She lied and she checked before she gave the phone back to me and then when the shit hits the fan, she was like - you signed something that allowed me to work on your phone - and guess what, I DIDN'T sign it (my husband did,) which wasn't event the point. Well, after about another 30+min of trouble shooting with I think might have been a senior genius (Anthony,) no notes. After stating that this never happens numerous times, the only solution they gave me was to call an iCloud specialist and that they are sorry... WTF!!!!! (Meg, give me your damn phone - let me delete all YOUR notes.) Well, to conclude... after spending hours and a few follow up calls from a iCloud specialist, they determine my notes were gone, all 600+ of them. He was kind enough to give me a credit of $200 to spend on the Apple site but nonetheless, years of info gone b/c of a callous employee who wasn't trained well enough to properly back something up. Final kicker, when I had gone back to my car earlier, I did a hard reset just to see what would happen and crazy thing, my swipe worked... MEG, you suck for not even trying to fix my phone and instead just told me to buy a new one; you suck for improperly backing up my notes and ended up deleting them; and finally you totally suck b/c you have a nasty attitude... you should NOT be a genius; better on the floor since you're so eager to sell iPhones. I have been with Apple a long time. So am at this store constantly. The people are always very knowledgeable and helpful. If you have an issue with their tech support over the phone (which is actually native English speaking people with a clue, unlike Dell) better chances the fault is at your end. I read a review here of someone that couldn't figure out how to set up their wireless internet and had itunes issues. All I can say is WOW. It doesn't get any easier, so good luck. I am not someone that thinks everything Apple does in genius back any means. I deal with both PC and Mac at work so I know both platforms. Apple consistently has the best costumer service. Not just my opinion that is fact (Consumer Reports). But no one is perfect. I much rather deal with the Hingham Apple store than shipping PC's to their "warranty authorized service location". I love Apple Customer Service. So this is why I am so disappointed in this experience. I made a 12:50pm appointment as my camera stopped working on my iphone. The Apple Store closer to me did not have any available appointments that day. Arrived 10 minutes early as told. Checked in. By 1:00pm, overheard someone else complaining about waiting past their appointment time. Apple employee told them that they could expect to wait up to 15 minutes past their appointment time. Say what? I have never heard that. I decided then to get online and make an appointment at the legacy store (where I usually go) for tomorrow as this did not seem like it was going to happen today. At 1:15 pm, (25 minutes after my appointment), I approached an employee and questioned the delay. He showed me on his ipad that I was the next person in the queue. I asked him what that means? Would I get seen in the next 5, 10, 15 minutes. He said he could not predict that. FAIL! I told him to cancel my appointment and walked out. I should have read the review! My Iphone 6 plus has the touch disease. I went to apple store in Hingham, MA on 3/13 only for them to tell me its not the touch disease. They told me I would have to pay $300+ to swap out my phone. The screen is not broken or chipped; its unresponsive. I told the rep that is was the touch disease and he said it wasnt because it dint have the faulty lines at the top. Shame on apple! Refusing to fix a faulty phone for a loyal customer. I will start with the positive - Bill was excellent. He was patient, knowledgeable, and courteous. He had a really nice demeanor, and was very conscious of satisfying the customer. He gets 5 stars, and if I had only dealt with him, Apple would have also gotten 5 stars. But I did deal with another associate, and he was awful. I won't mention his name, but he was in a big hurry to get rid of us. Instead of assisting us in setting up the phone and transferring our phone number to the new device, he walked away and went over to stand in the corner with his co-workers. He told us to do it at home and call our service provider ourselves. Over the next hour he never helped another customer; he just hung out and talked to his friends. Yes it took OVER an hour AFTER we chose and purchased the phone. Again, I'll skip the details, but if he had proceeded correctly the process would have been quick. This is not about the employees. They are lovely. And helpful. And hip. HOWEVER, the wait times are unacceptable. We stopped by at 5:15, and got an appointment for 6:30. We went home to await the text that would alert us that our appointment was coming up soon. [I will admit, this is where I screwed up. I believe the estimate of 6:30 to 7. Because that is the entire point of making an appointment time.] When we hadn't gotten a text by 7, we decided to drive back over as we assumed the text would be coming shortly, and we would already be there. BIG MISTAKE. We were told it would likely be 7:30 so we wandered over to the book store. Where we got a text that it would now be 7:55 to 8:15. At 8:15, we went back to the Apple store. They said perhaps 8:30. We finally were helped around 8:40. 2+ hours beyond the projected appointment. Clearly my time means absolutely nothing to Apple management. **This is a management issue because the staffing is clearly not keeping up with the demand. Or, they needs to study their wait time algorithm to come up with a more realistic estimate.** My daughter is a teen, so she will never give up her iPhone, so I am stuck with Apple for as long as I am paying for my daughter's phone. However, I offer a comparison. Ironically, I had to swap out my Android on the same day. I drove to the Verizon store. Had no appointment. Waited 20 minutes. Was served. I should've read the reviews before going. But yeah 2 1/2 stars is about right. Apple customer service made my appointment with the Apple Store on Derby Street to install a new battery. Apple explain to me that certain batteries or faulty and were causing iPhones to shut down at 3040% claiming low battery. When I arrived I was told that I would have to come back because they didn't have any batteries. I explained that and that's exactly why I was there and why wasn't there a battery because they knew I was coming. Their attitude was that "listen we're gonna help you, we're going to fix this for you." I said you're not helping me you're fixing a problem that you admitted that existed. You're not doing me a favor if you're for filling your obligation. Then they pulled the most annoying customer service tricks saying "well what will make you happy?" I said "I'm gonna walk out of the store with a functioning phone whether it be my phone with a new battery or a new phone." So I have an new phone. Same model as the one I had but hopefully functioning. But why dick around your customers? You knew why I was there. I had spent several hours on the phone with AppleCare. Super painful experience at the store. I ordered three laptops online and came to pick them up. Arrived as instructed with order number ID and the credit card with which I purchased the laptops. Was subsequently treated like a criminal, it felt like check in with the TSA. I was even lectured by one employee who told me how I was doing everything wrong. Finally found one very nice woman who was able to help me so that after more than a half hour I was able to walk out with my laptops. AVOID DERBY STREET APPLE STORE AT ALL COST! I made an appointment to have my iphone 5 battery checked/replaced and my on/off button fixed/replaced. I was there 1 minute before my appointment time. I was assigned a place to stand until someone could see me. I waited there in my place for 20 minutes before someone came over to me. I gave information to them for 5 minutes only to find out he couldn't help me and I'd have to wait until someone more qualified was available. I waited another 10 minutes. The next person took more information and explained I could upgrade my phone if I wanted, I could get a credit toward another phone, or I could wait 30 more minutes so he could make the arrangements to have my phone sent out for repair and set up a loaner phone. I chose to have my phone fixed. It would cost me nothing because of a known problem with the battery and on/off switch. Ten minutes into the process they had me enter my apple password to shut off find my iphone. Then the tech told me to wait here while he checked to see if they had any loaner phones available. I waited another 5 minutes to find out they have no loaner phones available! Are you kidding me! I was there for over an hour for absolutely nothing! Plus the time it took to drive to and from? They knew why I made the appointment when I filled out the online appointment. Why they couldn't contact me by email before my appointment to let me know they have no loaner phones blows my mine. This Apple store in Hingham Massachusetts is always a very pleasant and enjoyable experience, there is never any reason not to say anything bad about this store. You can always tell that the service team employees truly do care about the customer. Whenever I come in here for any issue or anything they know exactly how to help you and they do it in a compassionate way. My example consists of a damaged/destroyed XS Max from an unfortunate accident. They understood my issue perfectly clear and despite me being very disappointed with the current status of my phone they made it right with putting my mind at ease with a very friendly approach. I did walk out with a new phone obviously, but also with the biggest smile on my face knowing that this team has done their job right. Patrick and Max, I honestly praise you both for being loyal, kind and very very helpful. This will always be my number one spot to do any shopping or to get service done to your device. BUYER BEWARE. I went into this location in June to purchase an upgrade through apple. Since then I have had to return to the store twice and spend numerous hours over the phone trying to resolve issues due to not one, but two errors made on two separate occasions, by two separate "managers". I have been getting double charged by Citizens One for two outstanding loans. When I upgraded my phone in June, the employee never closed out my existing loan. I have been fighting ever since to get my loan cancelled and my money back. I have spent numerous hours dealing with this and am extremely frustrated. When I asked to speak with the actual manager to discuss my frustrations "Ed" stated he was the "supervising manager" and was rude and short and dismissive. I am a Hingham resident but will be taking my business to alternate locations as the staff in this one has proven (over and over) that they are not capable. read more

I love Apple products. In fact I still have my original Apple II GS from the when I was a child. i have a collection of used ipods that arent even broken but just obsolete. I have even converted all my friends and family to using an Apple. Okay... so I have a multiple experiences at the Derby Street store and most of the have been awkward including my 6 round interview for part time holiday help that I didnt get. Not to all potential Apple employees dont go in dressed like a "PC". Dress as if you just got out of bed, maybe even have visible tattoos of anime characters. Anyways enough about my failed employment. My main problem with the store is that it is not organized for people that already know what they want. For instance, I needed new headphones. Through some extensive research I decided I wanted Shure's. I walked in and I was nearly assailed by associates trying to help me. Given the mobyesque layout of the store I was able to locate the product and told the associate I should be okay. I get the product and the associate pops up in front of me telling me all the benefits and retail speak. I say I am all set and I am ready to check out. Here is the problem... there is no cash wrap type area. Instead you need to locate an associate who has some gizmo that can process your transaction. These gizmo's never read your credit card. Even when I have used a new card it is still a no go. So then you patiently wait will they type in your digits and personal info. If you have a long name and live in a bizarrely spelled street this can take ages. Ok so your done... Nope then you need to get the receipt which prints out across the store under a table.... or they can email you the receipt, but again my name is long and alas they are slow typers. After you get the receipt you now need to track down a bag which is on the other side of the store. This is all done whilst dodging kids hovering around computers looking at myspace or some elderly couple who just brought there whole computer and all peripherals in and nearly broke hip doing so. All in all I love Apple, but I am not a fan of the store layout. read more

This store is completely unprofessional and unorganized. I went to purchase 2 iPhone 12's and after waiting for 30 minutes already was told I could wait and see if someone could eventually help me but it's doubtful. I got there around 6:45 and they close at 8pm. I understand they have protocols in place to ensure everyone's safety during COVID and I appreciate that, as I'm sure others do, however several other stores maintain these same measure while also allowing customers to purchase their merchandise, all efficiently and without problems. When you first arrive to the Apple store there is a the first line which leads to a gentleman who will determine which next line you belong in. Upon telling him I was there to purchase two unlocked (no carrier so it's a quick transaction) iPhone 12's he directed me to another outside line and said he will find someone to help. After 30 mins of waiting and after watching him sell merchandise to a couple behind me he came out at told me there is no one that can help me today (45 mins remaining until they close) and that I should come back tomorrow, or I could continue to wait and see if someone has time. I asked him why he couldn't do it and he just said because he can't, I then asked if he had just helped people behind me with their transaction and all he said was yes I did. That's when I left. Now I would understand his hesitation if I were rude or off putting from the beginning but I didn't say a word I simply got in line and waited my turn. I wouldn't even be upset if he had just mentioned in the beginning (before the 30 mins of waiting) that because of their COVID protocols he advises I make an appointment or purchase online but that I am welcome to wait and take my chance in the event someone can help me. At least then it would have been my own decision to waste 39 mins. It's baffling that this store turns away a $2000 purchase that would have only taken a minute or two for no logical reason, again this man was capable of running the transaction as he stated and was not busy as I watched him just stand there but wouldn't. The worst part is, it's Apple, a bad review means nothing to them because their product is everywhere and it's not like the threat of buying the iPhones elsewhere will affect change or impact the store in anyway as no matter where I buy the phones Apple will still profit, they will continue to abuse their customers for they have no incentive not to, they are simply bullies. Quite possibly the worst customer service I have ever encountered. I have a 2011 MacBook Air and battery needs replacement. I called to ask what is the cost to buy a battery and have you install or just purchase and do it myself. I clearly stated, just trying to determine if it is worth it or should I just buy a new laptop. I clearly stated that I am not price-sensitive, but just need to know what I am dealing with. They stated they cannot give me a price. They have to see the laptop. iMoron: "People call all the time and they don't know how broken something is". Me: I stated, "I am looking to buy a battery, not have a clinical evaluation on how bad my existing battery is. How much does the battery cost? Is it $100, $300, $1,000???" iMoron: "I would have not way of giving you a price on the cost of the battery without seeing the laptop. People call after dropping a laptop and ask what it will cost. We don't know how broken it is?" Me: "Really?, you have no idea what your cost is on a battery and what it will cost to buy or to install?? Your store has never sold nor replaced a battery in a computer before??? There is nothing subjective here. I need a battery because I used this computer every day for 4 years. I am amazed it lasted this long. If I brought my computer over, went through appointments and everything, you would be able to install a battery, correct?" iMoron: "Yes, but we have no idea what it costs." Me: "I am not recording you looking for a price. Will this cost $100 or more like a thousand? Surely something there should know if the cost of a battery is nominal or most of the cost of a new computer??" iMoron: "I am not sure. Perhaps you could just buy a battery from a third party?" I was in today to pick up a new phone. The process was easy and seamless. I was assisted by Liz S, she was awesome. Liz was very knowledgeable and personable. I was also assisted by Tony who was also knowledgeable and helpful. I was in an out in about 45 mins, quick and easy. Phone set up, backed up from the cloud. Great experience.
