He constantly was distracted on his phone, and complained of helping me with my luggage. In November 2015, I requested a car to take me to Clemson, SC. Anthony was very helpful, and eventually got back to me with the set price of $506. I had been told Martin would be my driver, as usual, in the Mercedes Sedan I had requested. The day of, I get a call and am told that Martin could not be my driver, and that Anthony was outside. Not in the Mercedes Sedan, but in an SUV. No problem, I can understand things happen. As we are nearing my home in Clemson, SC Anthony informs me that he is lost. I tell him to check the GPS, and then proceeds to tell me that he had put in an address in NC. I told him the correct address, and we proceeded to my home. Not without him questioning every turn, though. We finally reach my home, in under 3.5 hours. I did pay for 8 hours, as it is garage to garage service. So everything is fine, but then Anthony tells me "Joshua, we have to talk about a price readjustment." I respond with "That's fine, we'll talk about this at another time." I had just gotten home, and was greeting my family. Since this was late in the afternoon, I assumed we'd speak the next day. As I wake up, I see a text from Anthony informing me that he is going ahead with charging my card. I immediately call him, and question this. He informs me that the additional charge is $364, but made it seem as if that was within the $506. Because, why would I be charged $364 more? After reviewing my credit card statements I see two charges, one for the original price we had agreed on, the $506, and another $364. I call Anthony to inquire about this misunderstanding, but he tells me that this is not a misunderstanding at all. After asking repeatedly why it would be an additional $364 he comes up with the excuse of the gas mileage. I then point out that it wasn't the car I had even requested. It was clear this conversation wasn't going anywhere, and I told him that I would just handle this with American Express. After a long process, I did get a full refund. There's so much more I could say, but, just don't use this service unless you'd like to get scammed.

The admin assistant Donna contacted JCW with me present on Wednesday, Dec 4th for my pick up Friday Dec 6th at 11:30 am. She & I confirmed the date & time 3 times before she hung up the phone. On Friday, Dec 6th, when the limo had not arrived by 11:42am, I called & the owner answered saying he had my pick up for 1 pm. Donna who was there & I confirmed that we both were present when the pick up time was scheduled & we both heard him agree before we hung up. He apologized & said he would arrive in 40 mins to have me at the airport for my 2:30pm departure. He arrived at 1:14pm for a calculated 75 min trip to the airport. His wife was a passenger in the front seat & the back seat was so stuffed with hanging laundry that I had to keep one of my carry on bags on my lap because she had the front seat slid back allowing for no foot/floor space. He kept reassuring me that he would get me there on time & after weaving in & out of traffic he discovered he was running out gas & had to stop to refuel. The stopping & going was so fast & abrupt that it actually made me so nauseous that I had to open the window for fear of getting sick all over my bag & myself. I arrived just in time to board my plane but there was no room for my carry on luggage so it had to be checked at the last minute so during my layover I had to go to the luggage carousel to bring it onto my next fight. Although he verbally apologized he offered no discount. For an owner to declare that he's been in the limo business for 35 years...... shame on you for not documenting the correct pick up time, stuffing me & your laundry in the back seat as a paying customer & running out of gas during a transport. If you are truly sorry as you verbalized as a Christian man .... You would donate the $80 I paid, in an act of amends to the Mepkin Abbey for disgracing their trust in you as a preferred transporter.

At the time the Uber driver was supposed to pick them up, we got a notification that they didn't in fact have a driver and they weren't able to get us one. Apparently it is basically impossible to get an uber from Edisto, but the app tells you it's available when it is not. DO NOT make the same mistake and instead, schedule your ride ahead of time with Edisto Island Shuttle. They are honest and provide a great service. This company got one star because owner brought our left behind iPad to a restaurant in Charleston,…read moreand our driver didn't crash. Otherwise, NO STARS. Our driver, who was pre-booked to take us from Charleston airport to Kiawah Golf Resort, began our experience by appearing then disappearing after our luggage arrived. When we finally tracked him down, he met us outside the terminal on foot, took one suitcase, left us with all the rest of our suitcases and bags, and took off at practically a sprint back thru the terminal -where we kept losing sight of him- to some side area in the back of the airport. He virtually threw our belongings into the taxi, jumped into the driver's seat, failing to open passenger doors in the process, and took off out of the area before we even had our seatbelts fastened. In retrospect, we wondered if he was not allowed to collect fares from the airport, hence the haste, and to our perception, secretive parking area. One of the seatbelts could not be fastened (already on the road) and when we mentioned this, he offered the seat next to him as the solution. Did not offer to fix messed up seatbelt. Gave up, as there was no safe stopping spot to change places, and hoped for the best. No fixed price offered, metered the ride instead. Finally arrived at Kiawah security gate, where guards gave him directions to our villa. We then drove all over the place in the dark, meter still running. Finally located a resort security vehicle, followed it as it lead the way to some other housing, for some other guests, then asked the security driver to lead us to our address, which he most graciously did. Meter still running. Finally arrived at our lodgings, which the guard was kind enough to sort out were at the top of an unlit tri-level exterior wooden plank staircase. It was after 10 p.m. and very dark. As we were sorting our payment out, security unloaded the taxi. Gave Herbert our credit card, and were told he "doesn't take credit cards." NOTHING was said about this practice UNTIL we got to our final destination. As the fare exceeded $110, and we were not carrying that much cash, we were able to write a check, but NOT to the company, made out to him instead. He left us in the parking lot and the security guard helped get our baggage upstairs. We felt utterly ripped-off, and most unhappy. And exceedingly grateful to the security guard. Then we discovered our iPad in its separate bag was overlooked when the off-loading of our belongings took place. It was in the "way-back" area of the vehicle, where everything except one handbag had been stored. Phoned driver in a.m. to verify that it was in his possession. He acknowledged that it was, offered to bring it with him when he came back, a week later, to return us to the airport. As we had made NO ARRANGEMENTS for a return encounter, we were left feeling a bit like extortion victims. Located the owner of the company (Yassir), who offered to speak with driver. He called us back, and we were able to arrange a drop-off at a downtown Charleston restaurant. We did not utilize A.E. services to get downtown. Yassir did leave the iPad with the hostess of the restaurant, while we were dining. We were never offered any apologies or explanations for the bizarre and cavalier treatment we received. Can only recommend avoiding this company's services.

I found Basic Black Transportation through online reviews, reached out to their main number late in the afternoon, and the person on the other end of the line was extremely helpful. His name was Dell, and he asked all the right questions and efficiently recommended their top dog as my driver. Jimmy arrived in my hotel the following day, 15 minutes early. He communicated proactively beforehand, and meeting him was like meeting old friend. Over what turned out to be at least four hours together he was informative, knowledgeable, fun and real. I mean it when I say after you've been with Jimmy for a short period of time, he's no longer a driver-- he's a friend. Do yourself a favor and stop looking.
