Pros: Its a beautiful area. The river is quite shallow. I think the deepest it might get is 7'. River tubing is really the best way to enjoy it. Keep your butt up! So you don't get hurt. Definitely not a child friendly experience. Which is a pro for me. Mostly just big groups of friends partying and drinking. Cons: Toilets are latrines. Ew! Its 2020, build a decent bathroom structure. The showers are $1 on QUARTERS for five mins. Again, its 2020! What's the loose change thing?? I always enjoy visiting this campground and with the New Owners its even Better. The location offers such a unique, full geographic layout that gives you all different types of sites to camp. Access to the River and Shuttles to the Somerset Concert Venue are huge Pros to staying here and the 2 Giant Water Slides aren't bad Either! read more

Unfortunately I have to give one star when this place deserves zero. I had a few friends that took the wrong exit off the river. The guys at Rivers Edge were kind enough to drop them off at the Hideaway bus stop. The Hideaway bus driver tells them he cannot bring them to their car and can only allow them to go float back down the river to get there. Keep in mind my friends are a little too drunk. I get called to help figure this out. I am at home. I call the number I got online 2 times at 6:43 pm, after 2 busses have turned down rides for my friends. So I call again at 6:58 and someone answers with "SHOULD I BLOCK YOUR NUMBER?" Me: "I'm so sorry I thought this was Hideaway" Him: "this is but you've called me 15 times and I kept answering and you weren't responding!" (Keep in mine my call long legit has only 3 calls total. Pictured) So long story short the owner is an absolute joke. I have never been yelled at before by an employee like this, manager or anything but this man was THE OWNER. So unfortunately when I asked to speak to a manager to figure things out, I still didn't get anywhere. He continues to yell every response at me, telling me the bus will bring them back to their cars. I actually end up driving out there to wait for the next bus to make sure they get on in. My sister calls the number online later to check when the next bus was coming, for they had been waiting for 2 hours for a bus to bring them back. And HE HANGS UP ON HER AFTER YELLING AT HER. Oh also, there was another group of 4 that had these same issues. I will NEVER EVER take Hideaway. I actually never have. Don't give this jerk your money. read more

If you care about the safety of your family don't bring them here. There's a halfway point you get picked up and dropped back off to float the rest and when half our group got separated on different buses they were told that nobody could help them and to just keep floating until they found the rest. They were told that they have an attitude so they couldn't be helped as well as if they were drunk they wouldn't be getting the help they did receive. Ridiculous that when people are asking for genuine help they can't get anyone to just drive them back to the main drop off. read more

I had to text multiple times just to get a response. It took two hours for us to get back on the river. Tubers beware! There are better and more efficient places to go. With six vehicles in front of us, it took 45 minutes before our car and its occupants were checked in to the first of two checkpoints. Although we had completed all paperwork and paid online, we were asked the same questions yet again. Because of this unexpectedly long check-in, one of our cars and two of the would-be tubers had to return home without tubing, for fear that they would be too late for work. The kids working there offered no recourse, nor could we find a way to recover the lost cost of the two tubers and one vehicle that headed back home. The whole experience ruined this part of our family reunion. read more

Certainly not the best place to go to. Staff is rude and their pricing is meh. They charge $10 to park and don't offer and secure place to stash your car keys while tubing. They have you enter the river mid way through the ride, you get picked up downstream and dropped off further upstream and float back to your car. I mistakenly got sucked into a Groupon suggesting that the retail value is $30/person offering up a sweet deal at $11. Nearby rivers edge offers a daily rate of $13/person, $5 parking, free secure key storage, uninterrupted ride, and most importantly an awesome and helpful staff. read more

We recently stayed at the Apple River Hideaway and had a great time. I would definitely not recommend it for children or people who dislike drunken shenanigans, but it seems to be a bit more tame than it was a decade ago last time I went. Our campsite was along the river and very nice. They have a bar/grill on site where you can get pizza and drinks until 2:00 a.m. on the weekends. Also, live music and dancing. The only downside to this campground is that you start in the middle of the tubing stretch, so you tube for about 2 hours, then have to get out, get on a bus, go to the start, and tube about another hour back to your site. read more

The tubing part is great. I did not have any trouble with the adult staff. However, the young lady who checked us in, did not know the answer to anything. Like what time can you go in last, what time do you need to be done. NOTHING. Not sure why they put her in a spot where she's in contact with people without an answer for basic things. And she can't sell you beer because shes too young. Stupid I liked that the local pizza place delivers. I do not think you should have to pay to remove your own garbage. its 30.00 with a 20.00 refund if you take your trash with you. So basically you pay 10.00 to remove your own garbage which is ridiculous. They nickel and dime you for everything. 15/tube 15 for a cooler tube. .50 for string to be tied together. read more

I am writing this review because they obviously monitor their facebook and don't let the posts on... The worst experience i've ever had! I've been going to the Apple River for a long time and this was my first at this place. The campground is run down, you think you get a good deal but they nickel and dime you for everything, we were camping in the middle of a field with no trees, and I spent more time on a bus riding to the river than in the actual river, drinking! I only went here because my friends booked and heard it's where the "party" was at...yeah right...it was a tent with DJ, sh**ty light show, and about 10 people with the workers drinking. My group will definitely be going back to the other camp grounds (River's Edge, Float Rite Park) as we've been to both before! This place is a joke! read more

Bought groupons for this place that covered a cooler tube and parking, they're trying to say they'll accept the Groupon but I have to pay for the parking and the cooler tube separately. So....we bought two groupons.... They refused to trade them out for a cooler tube and still gave me hell. The owner is one of the biggest jerk I've ever met, along with his staff/family. He is so used to dealing with college kids, he doesn't know how to treat adults with respect. There is a deposit for every single thing, they charge per person per vehicle. If you are over the age of 35 do not camp here, they talk down to you and will actually lie to get you in trouble with the locals. They outright accused my husband and I of something we did not, would never and could not have done. We are 40 years old and do not mess around. We are still baffled by their actions. The tubing is fun. I've had several great experiences there. However this is not a "family" type setting. This is a teenage and college hangout place. Loud concerts and "alternative" activities abound. I would not suggest that families sleep overnight at times. The river can be a drunken mess at times and inapproiate things can/may/will happen. So just know what you are getting in to. It is a great place to hang with buddies and coeds, but it might be R rated plus for families on weekends. read more

Great spot to camp when you're tubing the river! Staff is kind and helpful. Rates are reasonable (there are deposits and fees here and there, which are all listed upfront on their website when you make a reservation). Bathrooms are clean and amenities are nice. The campsites are in an open area and aren't secluded, which is nice when you have a big group that all wants to set up together. Everything is riverfront, so there are tons of places to hop into and out of the water and you don't have to drag your cooler very far! Definitely recommend. read more

The river was a blast but you should definitely be aware/prepared for potential bumps and bruises (from the rocks in the rapids) and plenty of sexual harassment due to the amount of drunk men. Another friend got us our spots online. When we showed up earlier than the other group they charged us $230 for camp sites and a garbage deposit. Once our fried came they figured out the situation and refunded us $200 so we almost go burned on some money. Once at the site it was dirty with cigarette butts and trash all over. There was no fire ring and the wood prices seemed steep at $6 per bundle. The only toilets were vault toilets that stunk terrible, were dirty, and had no hand cleaner of any sort. The showers were also just as disappointing. None of the woman's side showers were working. The last day after I showered I had to watch the door for my girlfriend and another lady from the campground so they could shower in the men's side. If that wasn't enough the showers cost. Quarters to use. As many people as there were at this establishment you cannot tell me they couldn't make improvements to this rubble site for a campground. read more

Rude, unorganized and unprofessional staff. They could not even pretend to care, though you can't blame them - this place is a joke. Definitely not for serious campers or anyway over the age of 24. One item to stress, that they do indeed mention on their website and that is spot on, DO NOT BRING CHILDREN ON WEEKENDS!!! Honestly, unless the camp crowd drastically changes during the week, I would just look elsewhere for a safe, all-ages experience. WARNING!! We are just getting into the 2015 camping season and I just feel I have to get a warning out to parents and others about how dangerous the Apple River Hide-a-Way is. This took place over a year ago but is still fresh in our family's minds and we are hoping this will save someone the agony our family has suffered.. Early on her first day at this campground, at the concession/bar, my under aged daughter was not carded and was offered a 'freezie' type alcohol drink by one of the owners of the campground. After serving more drinks to her and her adult brother, neither of whom usually drink, she invited them to come back later and gave them wristbands, telling them that if they wore them they would not have to stand in line. When my children returned later they were again not carded. A few hours into the evening my son went outside to the bathrooms and stood in line for over 15 minutes. In the meantime as my daughter sat at the bar, directly in front of the owner, a drug was secretly put in her drink which was then followed by her being carried out of the bar and raped. She woke up naked and dazed, with no memory of what happened and wandered around the campground in shock trying to find her brothers camper as he tried to find her. After I got the hysterical phone call from her I called the campground and spoke to owner Mike. Instead of shock or sympathy this man had the gall to blame my daughter. He said "the only way she got in the bar is with a fake ID". When I told him she was a good christian girl, an honor student who was home-schooled, did not party, or do drugs, he answered with "I can guarantee she had a fake ID" and then went on to brag about himself having previously been a cop and that he 'was 100% sure that is the only way she got in the bar and that he had video cameras all over the bar and he would prove it'. I told him to watch the video's and then call and apologize. (If he tries to deny any of this I taped our conversation and would play it for any doubters). My daughter went to the hospital, the sheriff was called, and there was positive proof she was raped. The sheriff went to retrieve the video tapes from the bar and guess what? the owner said 'so sorry but something was wrong with the video surveillance and there were no tapes'. My son absolutely remembers seeing the blinking 'on' light on the surveillance and of course the owner had guaranteed me he would see my daughter being carded. Just amazing that on this one particular night not one of the surveillance cameras happened to be working. How convenient! Since then my daughter has had social anxiety, has racked up thousands in medical and psychiatric bills and seldom leaves the house. Apple Hide Away stole my daughters innocence and not once have the owners apologized or even checked up on her to see how she is doing. Seems they are just all about the money (even charging for the nights they couldn't stay due to the incident) and I only hope a few will read this, be appalled and stay the heck away from there. read more

The worst campground on the Apple River- hands down. Management is terrible and only seem to be concerned with charging for each and every little thing. We paid for our stay ahead of time. Upon arrival, we noticed how rundown it was. Before we had even unpacked, we asked for a refund to go somewhere else. They refused to reimburse us. We had not utilized any of their services, yet they still refused. We left anyway - it was that bad. Very poorly run. As a business owner myself, I realize the importance of addressing concerns in a respectful manner and taking care of things with the consumer in mind. After all, negative reviews spread much faster than positive ones. That is a basic concept these business owners seem to have forgotten, or have failed to realize. I would highly recommend Float Rite or Apple River Family Campground. Both give you the environment you're looking for when going to the Apple River - (drunken) fun on the river, surrounded with friends and family. Wooded campsites to provide some privacy, clean restrooms, and great management are all found at FR and ARFC. read more
