I saw a lot of complaints on service, but I did not encounter any of these issues. The store could be chaotic because of the crowds, but there is always someone at the front entrance ready to help. This is a good store, very close to the parking lot. They have all the cool gadgets and never really pack like in other malls. Service can be varied depending on the salesperson that you ask. Some know what they are talking about, and others less. Sometimes I know more about Apple products than some people work there. I visited the store specifically to get a demo of Vision Pro. I was so amazed by the vision and responsiveness. This device tracks your hands, so you don't need a remote like a Meta headsets. Since Apple sells at the same prices and the same products on the website, they can not push to sell you stuff. Came to check on my airpods since two of them were not working. Was told that appointment wait is an 1h-1h15 min. Waited almost two hours for the appointment and was told they can only check one since its 1 appointment for pair and the guy who made an appointment never told me this even though i showed him two pairs not working (1 in each). To wait for the 2 nd appointment they said is another hour. Asked them to check at lease on one which they did and replaced 1 airpod for the price i could get whole new pair on amazon. They've now separated it into salesman and greeters and technical and that's aside from the supposed genius bar. I had someone come up to me. I told him all I wanted to do is buy a particular phone. He told me that A salesperson, which wasn't him, would be around after one more person that was ahead of me. There were so many Apple employees, walking around and many of them just standing in groups gabbing. Eventually just about when I was ready to leave, they sent somebody over who had been leaning against the wall about 10 ft for me looking right in my direction but just talking with a friend. I was already aggravated and didn't need the stress so i said to forget it. Any other salesman I probably wouldn't have done that, but this particular one was standing not more than 10 ft away from me just talking with his friend and looking out over there store. I told him it just took them too long and there was no real excuse for it so I didn't think it was worth hanging around. He said, " Okay no problem." That's the problem with the people there. They're there for themselves, or at least many of them are, and it's too easy to sell an iPhone for them to bother breaking up their conversations so they can talk to you. Busy Apple store inside a cramped mall. Most staff is helpful and to the point but many are new and unseasoned for an Apple store this size... but in the end Short Hills has all the bells and whistles that concern your Apple computers: cables, chargers, apps and new hardware. There are a ton of folks in here in the afternoon, so make an appointment at the GeniusBar or reserve a seat. The Apple service staff is abundant but like I said a lot of people - otherwise just take a stroll in the main mall and window shop a bit. The staff were chatty, happy and to the point but quite young to be running the store without a senior staff member. It was all like High School kids which is not conducive to proper problem solving any which way you slice it. Get some older staff at the GeniusBar and on the main floor to iron out the rough wrinkles around this place. Now if you come here on a weekend- then good luck or you need patience because it will be super busy and packed . Not my cup of tea for me personally. I had an issue with the display and they replaced it for me because it was within the year's warranty ( thank god) Staff was knowledgeable and personable. That is important to me. If computers are all illusion, then why is it that buying illusions was such a real and pleasantly humbling series of experiences? This is my final in a series of reviews - the past erased. From the depths of retreating illness on August 5 until this fine evening on 9/11 Eve, I spent enough visits at the Short Hills Apple Orchard a mile or two away to gain some possible insights. There's nothing to fear. Trust like iron. Experience: 8/5 walked in needing to replace my mighty 27" IMac that had frozen. First sold Green 24". Within the hour, told 27" data can't fit on 24". Brian meant well; Brandon Genius proposed solution. Keep Green, return within 2 weeks to get full refund and upgrade to custom 2TB Orange IMac. That'll fit my data. W/in 2 weeks, tried exchange over phone but told only would be credited $450. Went back to SH to Jonny Genius. Too new. Hawkeye Orlando Managerial Appler stunned: he made good on Brandon's suggestion. Upgraded with Speedy Pete. Freaked no receipt - feared $2400 over-charge as nothing in writing - Pete assures dismissively - anxious until 8/28. It works out. 8/30 New Orange Apple arrives from Shanghai. Bring 27" and new Orange Apple to SH. Data transfer time! Takes days. 9/7 Called and told ready. Daniella Appler graciously humors my request to fire up Orange and show me 27" data. Oops. No Data. I still believe. She assures. Leave computers. Days later Dylan Appler calls. Wearily: "crashed twice - could try again. Won't work. What do you want to do?" I say quit. 9/9 arrive at SH ready to eat defeat. How to make right? Orlando rebates again: Orange full value - get new Blue 24" and $633 back with $213 upgrade of twice Green's memory. Lessons? 1. Apple products are still the finest. Never lost sight of that. 2. Even geniuses can't forecast the future. 3. There was benign human error here. But at all times: I always sensed: "we got you." They were never out to get me but help me. 4. Rapid intelligent sales communications are honest, not a ploy: trust but verify. Fast talkers you can trust. Best personalized sales force out there. 5. One brief exception. Maybe two during a power outage. 6. But all other interactions over a month were positive, clear and responsive with often intriguing personalities. Empathy = bridge. Trust. Don't get creeped out they can read your mind as to questions: you're not the first to ask. 7. Your budget. Your choice. Mild upselling but remain awake and see them for what they are: options - never ultimatums. You'll never be cheated. Quite a few stories from this month. All positive save the one or two minor. The last exemplified Apple Ethos: the dichotomy between speed and graciousness. Today I came in after three hours on the phone the night before with Apple Phone Drone (avoid phone help!)(Orlando - wasn't possible to carry over Apple Care because refunded after green - never on Orange - so starting from scratch) Arriving prepared, I immersed myself into the thrum of the Apple Hive and suddenly, helping smiles. Now, I thought: I was fluent in Apple-ease. I had all invoices, serial numbers, data organized on IPhone. Fingertips. I felt like a conductor raising his baton. Apple Sr Staffdude introduced me to Steve Apple bristling with routine positive energy. Issue 1 simple: get AppleCarePlus for new Blue 24". A great Mystery for Joe in Montano the night before but Steve and Sr were chomping at the bit with eager hunger for....the serial number. CONVO TO COLLAB Sr: "Steve just needs the serial number." Me: (drawing three normal breaths as I look to scroll) Sr: (impatiently bursting out) "...like NOW!" Me: (laughing) "Whatever happened to pleasantries? We're not machines" I breezily suggest, extending my hand. We all three delight in the speed break. The connection. That was your nutshell. Yes they thrive on lightening. But above all, they connect with a genuine trustworthy empathy. No matter what you hear: we're not machines - we are far more complex and we wonder. Going to Short Hills Apple? Stand outside it's bright inviting, thriving lightening hive. This is what the pandemic robbed of: each other. Relax. Trust. Engage. Experience Short Hills' Apple employees. Apple machines are perfection but only just shiny boxes. Illusions. Human interaction is the value. Apologetically, Steve explained his preference for first bumps: "that's how I feel love...." We laughed in agreement. Memory is made of touch - living from connections. So thanks to Brian, Brandon, Pete, Jonnie, Dylan, and most of all: Orlando. Smile more - I'll never forget how you went beyond to help me. And lastly, Steve Appler who piercingly asked when all the laughter passed and my twice told tails shared: "Are all your issues resolved? Yes? Great! Go home and enjoy your Apple!" I went to this store yesterday by appointment to replace my iphone battery. Someone immediately approached me and asked if I needed any assistance. I informed them of my appointment time and they were able to check me in within 10 minutes of arrival because I was a bit too early. My tech person was very informative and informed me of the risks of battery replacement and the estimated cost. The wait time was approximately 50 minutes so he recommended that I try the apple vision pro demo, which is free of charge. He called someone over to assist me with same. Steven guided me all the way through the demo and was very patient and informative. The experience was amazing. I would highly recommend!!! Everyone was so pleasant. If I could give this Short Hills Apple store ZERO stars I would.....now I can understand their 2 1/2 star horrible rating here on YELP. If you are looking for great customer care and service...DO NOT SHOP at this location. The WORST customer care ever. I am 70 years old and have been a loyal fan and customer of Apples since they opened stores more than 22 years ago. I have always had nothing but praise for their products and support systems. You will NOT find it here in the Short Hills Mall location. I purchased a keyboard for my wife's' Birthday however she had to go overseas for a family emergency. When she returned she used it once and didn't care for it and wanted the more expensive, better version of this keyboard (The Magic Keyboard)....Seemed like a simple return/exchange. NOT REALLY if you come here. Even though it was outside their "expired" time for return the floor person said the "manager" declined my request...even though I would be paying more for a better item. I asked her to call him over at which point he just didn't care and his tone and attitude said as much. I asked him his name and his answer was "Bubba"..... to be perfectly honest I felt as if I were being "reverse discriminated" ....bear in mind that we are talking about an inexpensive item that sells for about $200.....its NOT a big ticket item and it SHOULD have been a no-brainer for this "Manager"......I guess not. He seemed to want to exude some kind of lame power this morning. Then I went to the Menlo Mall location the same day and within 10 minutes the manager there had NO ISSUE at all......my return and exchange went smoothly and I walked out happy. I just cannot understand why Apple even keeps a person like this employed at their location in Short Hills, NJ. Horrible customer service- Stopped into Apple for a couple of hours before closing for a few different things, one of which being to have the speaker on my phone quickly cleaned. Priscilla, the store manager, repeatedly refused to have someone look at my iPhone to use putty to clean the earpiece, despite me stating that I would return anytime before the mall closed. This literally takes less then a minute to do. It was ridiculous and hands down the worst customer service experience I've had in an Apple store. I asked her name, and she stated it was Priscilla and then followed up by telling me, "and I'm the manager". Not sure what the point of that was. If anything, it just confirmed that there is someone in charge instilling a culture of poor customer service. I let her know her customer service was horrible and she smirked and wished me a happy holiday. For the record, Priscilla, acting condescendingly towards customers, isn't a good look. It's not your brand. You represent the brand and should be more mindful of that. If you aren't focused on customer service, you should NOT work in a customer service industry- period. Fortunately, the rest of the staff were pleasant, particularly the sales woman who assisted us with kindness and the utmost courtesy. Update: Priscilla sent someone over to quickly clean my earpiece about ten seconds after this review was posted. This should have just been done without all of the dramatics. I went in for a battery. Immediately, A young lady helped me, but was in a rush. She took my phone and told me to add storage in case something happens. I purchased more storage with the young lady's help and she took my phone. Hours later she appears and says we're giving you a new phone. I said ok. This was the beginning of the end of life. This lady swiped every memory I had in the phone. My mom's and brother's funerals, My kids' competition and award ceremonies, Our videos from vacation and school plays. My brother's last video singing a song of family love, and so much more. Apple had the NERVE TO SAY I didn't have space and there was nothing they could do. I felt like death hit me again. I don't know the lady's name but she ruined apart of me. I begged for my old phone back and Apple said it was wiped clean. This was my first time trying an Apple Store with an Apple product and disaster happened. I tried everything from getting a lawyer to offering money. I just want to say I was having the worse time with my iPhone XR and my coverage (Apple Care+) with my carrier. First off let me say I did not know I was supposed to have Care+, but the Apple rep informed me of the feature with my insurance coverage with T-Mobile. The feature wasn't showing on my phone, so we called back and forth between Apple and my Carrier to get it back on there and figure out why it had been removed. From start to finish the service was EXCELLENT! Everyone went above and beyond to help me and send me home with a new working phone. They were constantly checking-in on me to make sure I was good and informed about the status and progress of my situation. I was happy they took their time and worked with me for 3 hours. Even those who were not initially involved in my genius appointment, went the extra mile for me! They answered all my questioned and despite any frustrations I was having they let me know it was going to be resolved. read more

Update 11/22: about 5 months ago, the display on the 2020 M1 suddenly developed the EXACT same issue that my 2016 had: lines and cracks on the display so that the left side is completely warped. If you press in the screen it then increases . Had NEVER dropped or even banged it once. Even though I already had a separate display issue that occurred during warranty, Apple refused to even give a $5 voucher as this occurred 2 months after the one year warranty. So now will have to purchase another laptop a year after purchasing a brand new one . It will NOT be Apple, and doubt I will purchase any Apple products in the future. read more

I popped in here to get a little bit of help from The Genius Bar given that I'd already been troubleshooting the phone for more than two days on my own through the Apple website and service provider. I had a reservation, so was checked in but not actually served until about 20 minutes after my reservation time. Fortunately I managed to get a reasonably competent tack who listen to my story and diagnose the problem within 2 minutes, although she still had to run all the regular diagnostic tests and prove it to the system before she could assign me a new phone. I like the fact that here they have a space for kids to play while you wait on iPads right beside the service area. And having competent tech never hurts. The only downside for how busy it was would be the extra waiting despite an appointment. Also it would be nice if they trusted their technicians to do the right thing when they know what the problem is and not have to run through all the Diagnostics and steps of restarting and wiping the phones and wasting time that could be better spent selling people things and supporting or troubleshooting other issues. read more

He was very informative and gave us undivided attention, his personal suggestions, and popular nominations in making a choice. Matt also went ahead to check if my old iPhone was eligible for trade-in - it wasn't but it's the effort that counts. He hooked me up with some promotional Apple care for $199 for 24 months. We, unfortunately, had to leave before letting him help with the transfer between new and old, but he made sure he ran me on the "how-to" steps. Went to the store last night, gave my name and was told 20 to 30 minutes wait to buy the new Series 9 watch. No problem. While i was waiting people who walked in after me were served first. When I questioned this I was told "they know what they want" and "it's just for a minor service." After 37 minutes I was told it would be another 15 minutes. I left. Why have a list of names if you're not going to follow it? I guess the rules are not for everybody. Never had a problem at Menlo Park. Arriving at 10:00 am for a 10:15 am appointment, I was informed that my new computer was not ready and I should return in 30 min. I was also informed that use of the Genius Bar was NOT really for helping setup my new computer. Returning to the Apple Store 45 min later I was once again informed that my new computer was still not ready for pick up and that it usually takes 60-90 min for prep. When I asked if I should return in 30 min, I was told "You could. They usually send a text to let you know." This was NOT the level of customer service I expected from an Apple employee. Customer Service is not what you would expect. There is an arrogant air about the place. I had a Genius Bar appointment for an iPhone issue and they made my phone worse and completely unusable. Then, after they realized that they've messed up my phone, all they cared about was my cracked screen. I had to hear from two employees that they were working through their lunch. The manager of the store could care less that one of their geniuses messed up my phone. I called Apple corporate and explained my whole situation and they replaced my phone at no charge. After 1:30 of waiting and escalating my issue, no one...not even the main manager can help.
