Pros: None. I'm really bummed for the people that get taken advantage of here. Cons: Employee that straight up lied multiple times to increase his sale hundreds of dollars, long wait times, didn't feel comfortable making a purchase. I went in to replace my iPhone battery. It would've been a guaranteed sale that day. The employee (first initial B) ran diagnostics on my phone and told us 2 of the speakers were not working optimally. He told us we would need to fix those in addition to the battery because Apple wouldn't warranty the phone repair without fixing everything on the phone and it would be over $400. (A new battery is $90+tax.) We told him we didn't care about the speakers and just wanted a new battery. He very gravely told us that was absolutely not possible because if he did that, we could come back later and claim our speakers weren't working and could try and make a repair claim for them and Apple would have to cover it bc they had fixed and warrantied the phone as a whole with the repair. So, he explained, it is policy everything on the phone be fixed so that the entire phone has a complete working bill of health. I didn't notice the speakers being an issue and just wanted a battery. He clarified again he couldn't replace just the battery bc to warranty the phone repair, everything needed to be fixed. He ran more diagnostics in back and told us he could get the cost down to $368 because he said he wanted to treat us fairly and he didn't think that we needed to do an aspect of the initial repair quote. We declined as I have an older phone and wouldn't get our money back on the repairs when we eventually trade it in. I just wanted a battery that lasted a little longer. It wasn't worth it to me to spend nearly $400 to have that. At that time, and multiple pushes of phone upgrades later (one of which was the same cost of the repairs after trade-in), we were about to leave and B informed us he could repair just the battery for $90.... ..... ..... He set us up with a repair ticket and ordered an extra screen just in case ours broke during the repair process (this was the one time we felt taken care of as customers) -but by that point I was in pain from sitting so long. We had been there way too long as unwilling participants to tomfoolery and outright lies in an attempt to get us to purchase an EXTRA UNNECESSARY $300 worth of UNNEEDED repairs or a new phone. He had a guaranteed sale that day and he lost it in an attempt to bamboozled hundreds of extra dollars. Especially in this economy. It was unfair and cruel to scheme a customer out of that amount of money for something that was unnecessary. So, buyer beware at this store -and possibly other stores if Apple Management supports these behaviors. read more

I've had great experiences in the past. I've bought many phones here. I'm 68 and I don't always get it. But the competent staff has always been very competent and kind. I bought a new iphone 17 pro, 6 days before a big trip. I was using 8-10 apps with reservations that did not get transferred over properly and I'm leaving for Europe soon. But I "know" the apple store will help. I didn't know the passwords to access the apps. Well the young man, said he could not help me. Period. I asked to be walked through what the process would be. Do your own research was his reply. I would have paid for the help to be walked through the process. I decided to return the phone and have my old phone. But I needed to return with the cord, so on the way home, I mentioned it to a friend via phone, she was a mother of teenagers and she told me how to access my passwords. (She was laughing it was the first time she was able to help someone less competent then her). The employee was very eager to say he COULD NOT help. Yet could have shown me how to access my passwords in less than a minute, I didn't know there was an app storing those. THAT APPEARS LAZY OR UNTRAINED OR INCOMPETENT. I've always bought apple because of the customer service. Steve Jobs where are you? Management my number is 616 566 4531. I can't access a password to download new apps. There must be an easy solution that a competent person could suggest. I'm not that competent person. I don't change my own oil either. I went in today with my siblings hoping to buy a gift for Mother's Day, the workers said they'd ve with us in about 10 minutes. Long story short we never got attended to. To which my brother in law went up to one of the workers and got ignored. I don't even bother going into this store any more. It's like having a little slice of pretentious San Francisco right here in Grand Rapids. If I need something repaired, I'll go third party rather than deal with the lies coming from Apple. If I need to order something, I'll do it online and have it arrive tomorrow. The fact that I'm giving Apple four stars makes me physically uncomfortable, but they did a good job. I had an appointment at 1:20 pm on Saturday and the place was absolutely packed in the middle of a spike of covid. Not really a great time to go to a mall and really not a great time to go to an Apple store, but my MacBook Air needed to be serviced. There were so many people there buying Apple stuff that could have been purchased online. Everyone was wearing a mask though, so who am I to judge? I'm guessing all that stimulus money was burning a hole in the pockets of local Michiganders. I arrived at 1:17 and by 1:21 I was at a table pleading my case to an associate. She ran diagnostics on my MacBook that has a cracked bezel logo cover (so frustrating) and absolutely nothing to do with software. My husband later explained that they do this for two reasons: 1. They need to ensure that the customer is not bringing the computer in for one lesser reason to be repaired and then slipping in another more serious reason. He said customers lie. This did not occur to me. 2. They need to ensure the customer knows what is actually really wrong with their computer. He said customers usually have no clue what the real problem actually is with their piece of technology and diagnostics will help. This also did not occur to me. My husband said because the Apple people cannot tell customers "you're probably lying and you're most likely ignorant", they instead say "we will just run a quick diagnostics test". This took forever, on a computer that had no software issues. Anyway. I appreciate the Apple person was just doing her job and following her script and she was probably being paid minimum wage to deny my case and save Apple $100 because that is what she is paid to do, but I was still really angry. I thanked her and left. I took off one star because even though she did her job adequately I'm still really angry at Apple. The store was clean and they were practicing sort of safe covid protocols. There were WAY too many people in the store for anyone to remain 6 feet apart, but they were requiring everyone to wear a mask. read more

Had a wonderful experience here last week. Unlike other Apple stores, I was able to get service ON TIME when I made my appointment time. The key is to be patient, like in life. The two stars provided are reflective are an increase given the convenient location and stock of inventory. My past experiences at this location have been pleasant; however, my experience this week was horrific and degrading. The associate working with me, Dayton, didn't even make iContact with me, nor direct questions in my direction, rather interacted with my 16-year-old daughter to determine which watch and band I was interested in purchasing. During their discussion, he went as far as stating, "you are doing a service to help your parent" within my earshot. The statement and all of his comments directed towards me insinuated a lack of understanding, and intelligence on my end to operate the watch, despite owning and easily using multiple Apple products. The entire interaction was degrading, humiliating, and borderline discrimination. I understand that word is thrown out frequently, but I truly felt disrespected, patronized, and potentially mocked so openly In recent times - especially in from of my daughter. Very positive and straightforward experience at the Apple Store. I brought my MacBook in for the keyboard service program, and everything went as expected. John was especially great! He was friendly, helpful, and efficient, explaining everything he was doing and answering all my questions. The process was easy -- I made an appointment on Apple's website, showed up at that time, was promptly greeted to do a quick COVID screening and to get more details about my appointment, then waited a bit in a social distanced line, and was guided inside after a few minutes. Finally after 15 minutes waiting for a real person to answer my question on an app to buy. The Apple rep said to contact the app developer!! A very good store to shop for all things Apple, whether you're searching for computers, phones, software, hardware or peripheral devices such as speakers, etc. I've typically had above average service here, but it can get extremely busy during peak hours with the service slowing down significantly. That being said, it was actually much easier to set up my new phone service through the Apple store than through the Sprint store, so there you go. Tried to make a "Genius Bar" appointment on the phone after my Mac died. 25 minutes later, I finally get the appointment scheduled. The lady said they would try to start there and if they couldn't then they would send it out to the nearest service center to be repaired. She said I would get a confirmation through email but I got no confirmation email. I called the store but the guy who answered the phone supposedly could not check to see if I had an appointment or not. I used my phone to login and I and see I have NO appointment, so I scheduled online. Drove for an hour from Kalamazoo to grand Rapids for the appointment that I just made. The girl there really did not seem that helpful, but she did teach something. Apparently my computer is too old for them to work on and they cannot send it off to the service center. They do iMac work there but they don't have the parts cause my Mac is "obsolete." WTF???!!!! Why did that lady tell me to go to the goddamn store and drop off my computer? The other thing I think I learned is that I must be done with Apple. Apple just continues to disappoint, over and over again. Bought a new Apple Watch Series 6 this Saturday. Went there at 2:20pm, was told to come back at 4:00pm. So OK.. I guess we'll walk around the mall for an hour and 40 minutes? We did... Then we had to stand in line again. Finally got into the store about 4:05 pm. Once inside, we felt quite pressured to quickly make a purchase. Our sales rep even left halfway through the process and we got assigned to another rep. Her name was Paige and was really helpful and much better than the first guy we had anyway. Overall, it seemed a bit chaotic and unorganized especially with only a handful of people allowed in the store at time. I even saw 4 employees standing in the corner talking for a few minutes but I had to wait almost 2 hours to spend $600? If I didn't want to try it on in person and see the options available firsthand, I would have not gone there. All in all it worked out in the end but it was a lot of work for me. Horrible experience with Apple, the products, communication, and customer service. They withhold important information you need to know, lie to you, and make things very inconvenient. I ordered a new battery for my iPhone 6. The closest Apple store to me is in GR which is an hour away. I called to check on the status of my order since it had been over two weeks and every time I get transferred to the call center where I am on hold for 30+ minutes. Today It was 45 minutes to which the call center op said "please hold while I call the woodland store for you." She told me that they had called to let me know it was in (which is a lie- I never got a call or VM) she informed me that I don't need an appointment and that I can stop in anytime and get my battery replaced right then and there, same day. So I make a day trip of it to go there, get there around 2pm, only to be told "I'm sorry but we Can't do it today, we'll have to take your phone and you'll need to pick it up in a couple of days" Apple employees need to get on the same page so they can relay the right information. Horrible experience with them as they were very untruthful and unaccommodating. Wish I would have known this would happen, might as well just take it to Best Buy now to get my battery replaced instead of dealing with all of this again. I will think again about buying Apple products in the future since the whole reason I'm in this predicament is because Apple purposefully slows down the devices to get you to buy more. Disappointing trip. Service rep would not replace a battery because of a crack in the glass (ironically I think I could have them fix that, the come back the next day and have them replace the battery). They would not allow me to purchase the apple battery model on its own to install myself. Ended up buying a compatible (but not the same) battery and putting it in without issue. Couldn't they just have me sign a waiver that says I acknowledge the current damage and release apple from liability for any further damage while servicing my product? I think the whole point is to get you to buy a new product instead. read more

You definitely shouldn't go on a weekend if you really need to be quick, but if you actually make an appointment you should be able to get in quick. I went here just to a get my screen fixed and a man came and said that I would have to pay a $100 fee just to get it replaced. He then wanted to clean my speakers for a problem with the microphone and left speaker but I come home to figure out that BOTH my right and left speaker to be broken. I hate this store with a burning passion. The employees do not treat me like a human and I find it very insulting. I have had some repairs that the customer service representative has sent me here for and all of these have been horrible experiences. They rarely look me in the eyes and maybe its because I am younger but my parents have taught me how to interact with adults so i am not afraid to keep a conversation but its a horrible look on these employees. The repairs always take way too much time, the last being the glass on the back of the phone and i was quoted about 30 minutes but sat at the table in the back for about 3 hours, and during that time no employees came to see if i needed any help, just stood by there desk with their AirPods in and kept tapping away on their IPads. The only good experience i have had at this store was when i bought my AirPods pro and AirPods max, the guy was super nice, friendly, looked me in the eyes when he was talking to me and even asked questions about how my day was going which normally seems like something normal but at this store i was shocked someone would even know how to think about someone other than themselves. Since the repairs i have never gone back and will never be going back. i order my devices online and for repairs i have Apple ship out my replacement model and receive it in a day or two. In conclusion this store represents everything i hate. Self centered employees only focused on making sales money and not actually focused on customer satisfaction. read more

I suddenly lost my ability to send or read received texts! YIKES! I'm one of those people who hate notifications, I must clear them so it was kind of torture for me. After trying apple over the phone (ugh) and Verizon over the phone (double ugh) I made an appointment at the Genius Bar. I honestly expected that they wouldn't fix my issue but they did! The guy helping me was nice & knowledgeable. The only thing I didn't like was he was still helping someone when he began helping me and he started helping a third person while still helping me. I came here the day after the new iPhone was released because my wife couldn't get a rose gold 6s to save her life in Chicago that day. And you know all the white girls they need the rose gold, don'tchaknow. Anyway, Grand Rapids was apparently sent a surplus of them because I was able to make an appointment and get in the same morning to get her that pink phone! They handled it as kind of a cluster. You stood in one line, then you were separated and moved into 4 other lines based on what you needed. Pay in full/finance/support etc. No f*cks seemed to be given whether you had an appointment or not, because someone with a later appointment than me was placed in front of me in line. It wasn't enough to irritate me, but it seemed strange that they are so determined to have a process and then they just ignore it at the end. My salesperson was very nice and friendly, but she didn't want me to setup the phone in the store. She let me, but really just wanted to get to the next customer, and as I was completing the setup/restore from the backup I'd made of my wife's old phone, she did actually move on to help someone else, so when I had a question it was a bit awkward to interrupt her helping another person. Overall the process was smooth with just a couple of bumps. read more

My wife and I went to this store shortly after the release of the iPhone 5s. We had money in hand ready to go. We are young and felt as if we were prejudged for our age. I give two stars because I love their product but a 1 star for service. There were multiple customers who walked in much later than us and were taken care of long before us. About 3 weeks ago my husband went into the Apple store at Woodland Mall on 28th Street in Grand Rapids. He was bringing in my son iPad. We have a severely autistic 11 year old son. He is unable to speak and we are in the process of having him use the Proloquo2Go app for speaking. This app is a complete blessing to use as it offers our son Michael a way to communicate. Unfortunately though, he has broken several iPads. We have saved and used up our warranties on each one. Feeling completely frustrated, my husband brought the iPad into the store to see how much it would cost to have it repaired. Since our son is older now we thought we could give it another shot. We are working with his teachers in an effort to help him use this app for communicating and he has come a long way! We were unsure if the iPad could even be fixed or if we would just have to save up for another one. My husband went in and made an appointment to be seen. He came back out and looked at me stating he felt it was going to be a waste of our time. We had low expectations and had excepted that Michael would have to wait until we could put together enough money for a new one. To help put clarity on this situation I cannot even express in words how desperate we are to have this work for him. I have a child that we literally cannot wait to meet. We have no idea what he thinks about, what he is sad about, and what he dislikes. He can never tell us about his day. Nothing, because he has no way to communicate. This app has opened a new world for our family. The quality of his life will dramatically change with the use of this app. Michael chews the case off and cracks the screen every time. We have no idea why he does this. He loves using it, but, for reasons we do not understand, he shoves the iPad under doors to watch half of the screen and despises the case! My husband went in for his appointment without any expectations. He was greeted by a very friendly woman. Unfortunately, my husband is bad with names and I waited in the car with our son. We don't know her name. I really wish we did because we cannot express how impressed and thankful we are that she is who my husband met that day. He sat down and started to explain why the iPad was in such terrible condition. As soon as he told her we have an autistic son she perked up and told him she understand because their was a child in her family with a disability. She told my husband that our son breaks the screens and tears off the cases because he is touch sensitive. She also said let me go talk to my boss really quick. She returned a few minutes later with a new iPad. Unbelievable is all we can say! She has no idea what she did for my son and for our family. She also recommended a case that we should buy that was tough. We purchased the new case and my husband was on his way. When he came out to the car with the new iPad I was stunned. He told me that as soon as he told her about Michael, and she said their was a disabled child in her family, he felt an instant sense of relief that someone understood. My husband said she was so nice and went completely out of her way to help him. We want to tell her thank you. She really has no idea what she did for us that day. Good customer service is a rarity these days. She was great and so is Apple. Thank you so very much to the person in charge at the Apple store that gave her permission to give us a new one. A special thank you goes to her for the understanding, kindness, friendliness, compassion and her amazing attitude towards helping. You are a wonderful person.
