I wish I could give this place less than 1 star. Not only was the service absolutely terrible, the manager had the audacity to pretend to cater to us and the bill for how horrible both the food and service was and then DID NOTHING. We told him everything that had happened and he said he would take care of both us and the bill. HE WAS NO WHERE TO BE FOUND. He went and hid in the back. Let me just explain to you the experience from the start and why you SHOULD NOT GO HERE! They made us wait outside in the rain for a table when we first got there even though there were about 30 tables open. Then, not only was our waitress completely disengaged and just overall unfriendly(wish I could use other words), She got every single one of me and my family's order wrong. And after multiple times of telling her she did NOT care and took her sweet time to bring everything out. The 4 of us all had orders appetizers and an entree. Each appetizer came out at their own time after waiting for more than an hour. The entrees were not only WRONG, but again they came out 1 by 1 so each one of us had to watch each other eat their meals. It was RIDICULOUS. I go to Applebees in San Diego never had an issue. This day we waited 2 5 hours for our dinner. First we never heard our call for the table we let them know we would wait at the bar. Never heard anything I went up to let them know we were still waiting and the two hostesses were going back and forth about where we were going to seat. Then it took over an hour and a half to get our food. Waitress kept saying the kitchen was behind. Finally got a hold of the Manager and it was 1.5 hours we than received our meal. One of my all-time worst dining experiences ever. Let's start with the waitress. She looked like a crack whore; nappy hair with no net huge gaps between her teeth that were held together with substandard braces. Throughout my visit; she chewed gum like a cow. After she seated me, she planted her bony ass across from me to swipe her identification card on the menu prompter placed on my table. Like she was some buddy of mine! After she took my order; which she rushed me through, she didn't even have the grace to get me any napkins. I had to ask for them, and no silverware. At no time did she smile at me and make me feel welcome. Throughout my entire meal, she made me feel that she was put upon to serve me. I also saw her with the same attitude towards other customers. As for the food: The burger was overcooked and tiny. The onions on the burger were greasy and soaked the bun. The french fries were served lukewarm. I arrive here today June 25,2019 at around 1:15 pm I sit at the bar since it appears to be. "Graduation day " for many people. I was told a table for two would take about 30 min so I just went straight to the bar area although my mom didn't like the idea to much. I don't know what's worse honestly. We waited over a good 15 min before the bartender noticed us. She handed us some sticky feeling menus and walked away. I went to the bathroom to wash my hands since I couldn't bare my hands feeling so dirty and sticky from touching the menus. I also took some toilet paper with me to wipe down the bar area that I was sitting in since it had ice spilled all over it and no one throughout my whole stay there took a rag to clean the bar area. 33 minutes later our chicken quesadilla came in. Like seriously 33 min for an appetizer ? I over heard the hostess say about 4 waiters didn't show up. It's understandable . The waitresses were at the bar making the drinks themselves because in all honesty there was only one bartender. Wtf like really at Applebee's only one bartender ? How the hell do they even make money? I ordered a second drink since I have waited long enough. Then I proceed to order a whiskey burger and this $20.99 deal that has two proteins and two sides. We waited over maybe 30 more minutes and still noting. So i tell the bartender please make it to go and let me get the check. She apologizes for the wait and brings my food about 10 min later. It is now 3:43pm and I'm finally on my way to pick up my daughter. This is ridiculous. All the waiting for simple food is just beyond belief. If I was not with my mom at that moment I swear to god I would have left when I received my first drink. My bill came up to about $90 dollars(for a mediocre lunch and service). I left them $10 just out of pure sympathy that low amount wasn't even worth it. I always leave about $20 minimum everywhere I got but this wasn't worth it. Couldn't see or taste the dressing or almonds. Brittany brought her sliced almonds and dressing. The All American Burger was ordered medium-well, since we hate eating dry hockey pucks. What did we get? A well-done hockey puck. The pork chop is advertised as "cooked to perfection". I beg to differ. It was dry and tough. The mac & cheese just straight sucks. This is the 'hood. Why is mac & cheese not baked? Tasted horrible. On a good note: the Apple Chimi (forgot the rest of the name) dessert was actually delicious. NEVER AGAIN! By far the worst service I have ever received. Yesterday, around 4 PM my boyfriend and I decided to grab some food on such a nice day. Being that he lives around the Howard Beach area there aren't many choices, and we decided this place was a quick drive. We get there around 4:15 PM. Half of the place was empty. Nonetheless, it took about 20-30 minutes to be seated after the female at the front desk said 10-15. Others with larger parties waited longer. Once seated, it took approximately 15 mins to see the face of our waitress. Okay, we finally order three appetizers, a burger, juice, and a beer. Can someone explain to me why it took another 15 mins for juice, and 20 for a beer on tap?! At this point I should have left like a lot of others did because we did not get our food until almost 40 mins into being seated. Needless to say, they need to start either hiring more efficient staff or get it together. There is no reason that paying customers should be waiting in a franchise restaurant over 1 hr before they get to even see their food. We found seats and it took almost 20 min to be greeted this was pretty frustrating especially being that we were here to spend money...we tried to get the young girls attention by the name of Natalie she looked at us rolled her eyes and kept walking. I figured this was odd and tried to get the next friendly face attention for help. A young man finally helped us then another young lady helped us. To sit at the bar that's not super busy and have to basically beg for help because the workers are having there own unprofessional convos was a headache. We got the 2 for 20 to share the food was cold and horrible. We tried to order drinks to wash it down with but of course we had to wait another 20 min to be helped. My little sister from the very beginning said the worker Natalie kept staring at us and rolling her eyes...I said to ignore her and let her keep that bad energy to herself. This went left towards the end when I saw her myself staring my sister in her face as if she was trying to antagonize her. Before I could even say anything my sister asks her is there a problem. She turns her back and starts talking to the other worker laughing. At this point I was ready to go. Unprofessionalism and jealousy was on a whole other level. I sensed it but tried to ignore it. I got the bill and tried to pay so we can leave and tried to get the bartenders attention but of course they were too busy chatting to each other. I tried to find a manager and Natalie the worker yells y'all didn't pay. I told her after waiting another 20 minutes I figured we go find your manager. She rolls her eyes and says is there a problem. I told her there's a huge problem and I'll like to speak to your manager personally. She sends someone for the manager and the whole time is staring me and my sisters up and down rolling her eyes. The worker tried to physically fight my little sister and me being the calm mature person tried to remove us from the conflict. She apologized for the experience and even took money off of the bill I told her I would never ever return to this ratchet location. This location is only a few years old, so everything is pretty new. They have outdoor seating which is really nice on a good day. I must say however, the service here is pretty bad... I waited over a half hour for my drink, after waiting 20 minutes for the waitress to greet us. I gave it two stars as the food was OK and the manager seemed to have some customer service skills. She apologize and took off the drink. To make it worse, the food then took long to come out as well. I was with my 15 month old daughter, and thank goodness she is a wonderful baby or this really could have ended badly. They are located in a shopping center, so plenty of parking (as well as plenty of other eating options, I'm just saying ;) ). To be honest, I never was a fan of Applebee's however my choices were limited. I must say, this location offers a "ounce" of hope I had in the franchise! I went on a weekday late afternoon. The place is huge and offers outdoor as well as various indoor seating arrangements (including a full wrapped bar). I went for the 2 for $26 entrée plus shared appetizer. Of course for such a deal, the portions were OK (not too large). The appetizer took forever before my near death (of hunger)! Our server was pleasant and helpful so it kinda made up for it. Before I really get into my review -- I will say this, seated promptly, table of choice and that's where the good stuff stops. I understand that this is just Applebee's and my expectations should be minimal for this raggedy piece of shit restaurant but as long as I'm spending my coins and paying for a service I expect some sort of decency. Secondly the drinks are severely watered down. Now we order appetizers. I'm still waiting on clean plates. Now dinner. Explain to me why our food had to be sent back twice?!?!? And then to get a message from the kitchen manager about how I can cut my meat to find out if it's medium or well done. Really. No really. First of all when my food comes to the table I expect it to be hot. It wasn't even microwave warm. The manager comes over and just like our waitress apologetic but no solution. I hate a motherfucker to try to insult my intelligence when the restaurant is dead wrong but you have these fucking puppets they pay next to nothing that do nothing but make excuses. NEGATIVE. This is the worst Applebee's I have ever visited, where I received the worst restaurant service ever. 1) The young woman at the door behaved as if she didn't want to work there. Not pleasant at all. 2) My overly sweet drink came with what looked like a scab in the glass. When I told the waitress about it, she never apologized. She reported it to the manager, who never apologized, and I was still charged for the replacement drink. 3) We waited a long time for our appetizers, and didn't receive it until *after* or entrees were served! 4) The food was horrible. It was worse than eating leftovers. 5) The men's urinals were in working order, but the toilets were not. The women's toilets were also in disrepair, and I had to drive to TJ Max in order for my fiancé to find a restroom. I don't have a problem with Applebee's, only this one. The only reason I took my family to this particular Applebee's, is because we were visiting. Otherwise, we would have gone to the one in Valley Stream near where we live. Despite my vowing to never return due to poor service and room temperature food, I went to the Gateway location because my 5 year old wanted to go and honestly doesn't know much about good service. We got there and was immediately seated. After 20 minutes I had to ask a bus boy for our waiter, who eventually showed up to our table five minutes later. We placed our orders. Fast forward another 25 minutes, no utensils and/or water nor the beverages we ordered. Waiter finally acknowledges us and said she'd bring us silverware which she never did. After another 15 minutes, I requested to see the manager (ironically the same manager that I complained to about the poor service the last time I was there ). After expressing to him my frustration about the poor service, food quality and just the overall poor follow through, he prefusely apologizes and said he would handle it. He finally got us silverware and hot sweet potato fries (which we left at the table). Despite yet another bad experience, we still tipped the waiter. I should have known better. I get this is a new location. And i get that it's Applebees and not a gourmet restaurant. Even with these, however, I still had higher expectations for an established chain. I expected to think it was the same as any other Applebees... unfortunately, it's worse. It's probably the worst one I have been to! I gave 1 star for location and cleanliness and the other star for my nieces kids meal, which she ate up. Thats where it ends. The adults food was horrible (there were two adults dining). It was bland, tough and the potatoes had a bitter taste. I think whatever they were cooked in was overdone that left that taste... not burnt, but kind of rancid maybe? Either way, not pleasant. My veggies were drowning in butter. Soooo greasy! And my steak was certainly not medium. It really was bad. The drinks were sugary and not good either. A waste of money imo. Maybe this spot still has kinks to correct but i hope thry do it soon! The one in 5 town is way better. They should try to learn from that location. I went to this NEW Applebees location which is a new addition to the Gateway Mall. It was a Saturday evening and pretty packed. I was impressed with the outdoor seating which was a nice option since it was a mildly warm night. There were about 6 tables outside with umbrellas for shade. We opted to sit inside the restaurant. We were told it would be a 15 minute wait at first, and then the hostess noticed that there was an empty table. We approached it, and it wasn't yet cleaned from the previous diners. We had a seat in some chairs next to the table to wait. There were an ample number of workers around who walked past the table and ignored it. I would say about 5 workers. About 10 minutes passed before the table was cleared off and we were seated. Then we proceeded to wait for menus. The server came over before menus were brought. He was personable and friendly. We placed our orders. It was about 15-20 minutes before the food arrived. The drinks came out at separate times as well. The boneless buffalo chicken was barely warm. I said I didn't order it for that purpose and lettuce does not make you fat! He took the salad back and brought it out a second time. This time there was more lettuce and I was satisfied. He made sure it was to my liking before I walked away. All of this to be said. This is a nice NEW location. The staff needs to be trained a bit better. There were too many workers around having casual conversations. The bathrooms needed to be cleaned. They need to improve in order to stay in the area. i ordered take out from here. i ordered a chicken tenders plate with ranch and buffalo sauce. i arrive to pick up my order and they make everyone stand outside in the cold to wait for your food. when i got my receipt i noticed the woman charged me $1.50 extra for sauce when all i got was two small cups. keep in mind they already are asking 20$ for chicken and fries so asking for more so i can dip them seems rude. anyway, the chicken looked nothing like the photo or like what i've had in the past. best way i could describe it is some kitchen wholesale chicken tenders you'd get at a deli for 5$. and i didnt get a side of coleslaw like advertised. asked for my money back, the manager was nice and said he also doesnt like the "new" chicken tenders. never going back here. read more

It just doesn't inspire much confidence when you catch the bartender intently reading a cocktail recipe book behind the bar after you've placed your drink order. Food service takes a very long time, and there's a good chance your order won't be spot-on once you receive it. My steak was very dry and tasteless. The BBQ ribs are pretty good, but the to-go order came without coleslaw and literally 10 lonely fries. When I questioned this, the bartender reported back that the kitchen said that's how the to-go order comes. I summoned a manager, who said that's untrue and he fixed it. In short, the area needs places like this, so go if you're shopping at Gateway. It's a good addition, and maybe it will get better. read more

Extremely disappointed. This is my third time coming. The first time went really smooth but all we ordered were drinks for happy hr. The other two times is was a mess. They are just too spanking new to expect phenomenal service-- even though if you train your staff then perfection should be served. Some of the hostess walk around with grumpy demeanors. The two waiters out of three I've got still don't understand the menu or their computer system. How are you going to tell me you don't know how to split the check evenly 5 ways??? Really??? Ive managed a restaurant and could've done it myself. Our food never came together but in 10 min intervals. Last night, every time we needed our server, he would be MIA and not for 5-10 mins but gone for 25-30 mins, by the time he arrived whatever we needed was no longer necessary.
