I hadn't been to an Applebee's in about 15 years so coming into Elizabethton we decided to have Applebee's for lunch. I ordered the Santa Fe chicken, which I had had numerous times before it's pretty much a staple that I used to get when I would eat at Applebee's. The chicken was fine. The sauce was fine. The tortilla strips under my chicken were stale, the rice tasted as if it was a couple of days old and not completely cooked. The rice was almost like that bag of minute rice that you throw in the microwave for 90 seconds the hostess had come over and we were looking for our waitress. Our waitress was Taylor. She was great no problem with her. She was friendly. She was attentive no issues with our service, but the hostess had went to the back and had ordered a fresh side of rice. A gentleman came out, with a bowl of rice saying this should be better for you. I don't know if he was a manager or an assistant manager. He was wearing a shirt and tie. I didn't see his name tag and he did not introduce himself. The rice was very hot and it was worse than the rice that was originally served to me. Taylor had come to our table at that time asking how the rice was and I said it was it's worse than the first time so she said well any other side you want just let me know so I ordered the mashed potatoes. Taylor brought me out a bowl of mashed potatoes. You could see the steam coming from the bowl. they were so hot even the bowl was hot so that tells me they were just thrown into the microwave. They were completely disgusting. I put them in a to go container. My husband tried the potatoes later that night and he also said they were disgusting. He wasn't too fond of his meal either. He had the pasta with chicken and andouille sausage, he said it was just ok. When we came into the restaurant, I noticed that it wasn't very busy like an Applebee's usually is but considering it was after lunchtime, I wasn't too concerned about it and maybe I should've been. I will never eat there again. I will never give them another chance. I don't know what happened to Applebee's, but it has just gone straight to the toilet.. I don't know if we were charged for my mail or given any kind of discount I had to leave and my husband paid the bill and I forgot to ask him. read more

Needs to stop changing their minds from one day to the next about whether doordash/uber can walk in to pick up the order or sit in the lot. That's the only thing I can think of as to why an order was out. A ticket was taped to the shelf. and outside of glances as they walked by, nobody responded. So I only went here because my fiancé wanted to visit it one last time but damn We ordered our drinks and they brought out my drink He didn't drink sense he was driving And I had the shark bowl Now I know I look under age but I am definitely not under age and haven't been for a long while but the drink I was served was a virgin And if that's wasn't insulting enough I get a kiddie size portion of food That is not what is on the menu The potato's were ice cold from being plated early the broccoli was warm and the salmon was soo small it was technically 6oz instead of 10oz Our server was lovely and it's unfortunate that good staff only has an option like that for working. Worst Old Fashion I've ever had, no bourbon, soda water and Southern Comfort stopped the bartender and requested Makers Mark and so much sweeter that tasted like pancake syrup. I ordered a grill chicken/pasta combo online for carside to go. When we got the order home, the combo was missing the mashed potatoes and the fettuccini alfredo didn't have broccoli or sauce. We called and the manager agreed to make a new meal and we would drive all the way back in to pick it up. She said it would be ready in 10 minutes. I left the house at 6:50pm. I got there at 7pm and pulled into carside to go parking and waited. Finally...at 7:40 (yes, 40 minutes later) the girl came out and asked me my name. She had already been out serving cars that entire time but NEVER once approached my car and asked me what I needed. The manager who I had talked to on the phone never made an appearance either. So, my food had been sitting under a warmer for what, 40 minutes? Guess what chicken turns into after sitting under a warmer that long? Rubber. That's what Applebees was serving a customer who paid good money and who was expecting a hot, fresh meal. Rubber. Plus, no apology for any of the service and food issues. I own and operate 2 food trucks in this area and I would NEVER let a customer leave unsatisfied like this. I will always err on the side of grace and generosity to make sure my customers are pleased and leave happy if it's within my power. So, Applebees disappoints me tremendously right now. More accurately, Applebees management disappoints me. I would have been out there talking to the customer to make sure I answered any questions or concerns. Your manager made no such effort. Plus simply the fact that I waited 40 minutes for someone to come out and give me my corrected order. They knew I was coming. Wouldn't you think someone would be looking out for me to arrive? Apparently not. So, after an hour and 10 minutes of waiting, I had a meal of warm mashed potatoes, gummy fettuccini alfredo, cold broccoli, and rubber chicken. STEAK + MICROWAVE + SOME AWFUL MSG SEASONING = SERIOUS WASTE OF MONEY! GO ELSEWHERE! The steak was thin, chewy, medium well (ordered medium) and tasted very much like it was thawed in the microwave IN WATER seasoned with some cheap MSG enhanced salt. I have reactions to MSG's so I am certain of what it was. Mashed potatoes were BLAND! Waitress was good and was tipped according to her service NOT the awful meal. Every time I come here I have a horrible service experience. They have no clue what they're doing when it comes to running a restaurant. Their website says they're open until 10pm and 10:30 for take out. We show up at 9:40 to put in a to-go order and are refused service. Are you kidding me?! Refused service during their service hours. "While I am not a big fan of chain restaurants, Applebee's is fairly consistent in its mediocrity ... if you know what to order. Most often I will order a salad because, really, how badly can one mess up a salad?" This is a direct quote from my last review ... and I am here to tell you that YES ... It is possible to mess up a salad. We got off to a bad start when we were seated at a wobbly table by the tattooed and bleached blond biker-chick hostess. How can they not be aware that the table wobbles? Isn't anyone there smart enough to figure out how to fix that? Yeah, I could have asked for another table but I shouldn't have to, that's the point. If the business was being run properly someone would have fixed it. My friend ordered a side Caesar salad and a bowl of French onion soup. I ordered a full size Caesar salad with strips of grilled chicken. A proper Caesar salad is made with romaine lettuce and croutons dressed with parmesan cheese, lemon juice, olive oil, egg, Worcestershire sauce, anchovies, garlic, and black pepper. Applebees has apparently added sugar to the mix, and eliminated the Worcestershire sauce, anchovies, garlic, and black pepper. It was -way- too sweet. Even the croutons were sweet. And the chicken was dry and flavorless. Seriously. Applebees screwed up a salad. And the Bobble-Head that serviced our table wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed. I watched her screw up an order at a nearby booth and overheard her apologize and say (repeatedly) "I guess I just have a one track mind!" I had to fight the urge to pull her aside and tell her that that phrase did not mean what she thinks it means. After noticing that I'd finished perhaps a quarter of my drink she told me no less than four times that she'd bring me another Lemonade. I didn't necessarily want or need another one, but she mentioned it each time she breezed by. She finally brought one on her fifth trip by us. Did she have to have a manager pour it for her? Couldn't she figure it out for herself? Better yet, how about asking me if I want one first before bothering me with threats of lemonade? I wanted to check out using the tabletop mini tablet thing but the Bobble-Head forgot to put our drinks on the check. Guess what she said when I told her .... "I guess I just have a one track mind!" Applebees used to be one of my favorite chain restaurants in California. This location is a sore disappointment. Generally speaking, most chains have something on the menu for vegetarians. Such was the case of Applebees in CA. I had not realized that other regions of the country could have such a vast difference in menu choices. There was NOTHING offered without meat. Not even salad for cryin' out loud. The staff at this location were nice enough but terribly clueless.To try and piece together something I could enjoy was a lesson in futility. The only reason we didn't walk out was that my husband wanted a steak. His order was reasonable enough, though undercooked. He wasn't impressed with his meal either. By the time the bill arrived, the waitress had charged us almost $50 for our orders. The inedible piecemeal dinner I ended up with constituted over half that. REALLY?! Ambiance was comfortable but noisy. Plenty of parking. No wait. Nuff said. Not going back. read more

I don't go to Applebee's for the food. Let's face it, it's the typical mediocre chain restaurant, but I love Applebee's in Elizabethton. I go there for the environment. Service was pretty good. Food not so much. Ordered a bourbon black and bleu burger which is supposed to come with bleu cheese, caramelized onions and jack cheese. It came undercooked, no onions, no bleu cheese and swiss cheese. My friend ordered to cowboy burger and it came with mushy onions and was undercooked as well. I really like Applebee's but this was a disappointment. Wouldn't say they are a terrible restaurant nor am I throwing them under the bus just saying they need to put more focus into their burgers. read more

This chain is a little different than the others.. Unless something has changed since my last visit they are really struggling with management. I wouldn't normally review a chain like this, but I was so impressed with the service and quality of food that I got at this location last week that I felt I had to say something. Whoever trained these people - bravo. Appetizers came out less than 3 minutes after we ordered - I kid you not - and the food came out shortly thereafter and it was exactly correct. The second I set down my empty glass there was a full one by its side. The moment i finished with my riblets (I destroyed them) one of their trained ninjas appeared to take the empty basket. We were having a little mini-party at my table and the staff was staying just far enough out of sight to be unobtrusive, but still just accessible enough to know when they were needed and spring into action. I work close to the JC location and while I can say they have the same food, the staff at the Elizabethton store is what sets this place apart from the competition. read more

I hated everything about this place besides my waitress, she was nice! However the manager is the worst I have ever seen in the restraunt business! Our food came out right after our app's and salad, so we did not even have time to finish before it was brought out. The app's and salad took over 35 to 40 min to come out but 3 to 5 min later the food was out ! The employees were rude, when i asked one for help she ignored me and walked away and the other's just walked right by. I have never felt so disreapected, especially in a restraunt where we spent over $80! I would not recommend this to anyone! The food was terrible as well! My son wouldn't even eat because his macaroni was like a block just stuck together! We also glt charged for a game they have on the table that would not even work until the end of our meal! I will NEVER GO BACK! I was harrased as i left for having an "adult beverage" and was told I was a bad parent for having one drink within the whole 2 1/2 almost 3 hour sitting with my 3 kid's there! They had my son so upset he was hyperventilating! I definitely would not recommend anyone to go there! read more

I do eat at Applebee's a fair amount because my dad really likes to go there and i go there sometimes when traveling because it is ok and fairly consistent, the bourbon st steak is ok and the wings are meh but good real buffalo sauce flavor, in other words when run well it is decent. This Applebee's however needs some management help ASAP. Our issue was when our server (who was very nice and did his best) put in our drink orders and they took forever, basically the bartender was not around, then when she showed up a table sat down and she never noticed the drink order and whatever is going on with the culture there the poor server never asked he to make the drinks but just ended up going behind the bar himself, it took forever to get the drinks, there was the bartender and another girl sweeping behind the bar letting this poor guy be in the weeds, terrible team work. I really harp on this because the place was maybe 30% full and I saw them manager walk behind the bar twice and pour beers and never notice this drink order and let this guy fail. read more

Went here for lunch today. We ordered the cheese burger classic lunch special. The price was fair and its a pretty good burger. We only ordered one meal and split it, plenty for both us us. When the waitress brought two meals to the table, she had a look of shock when we informed her that we had only ordered one meal and didn't want the second meal. She asked if we wanted the meal and we said no we only ordered one so we could share. She did take the meal off of the ticket. The waitress was friendly. We will return here again. read more

Unfortunately our Applebee's consistently under-delivers. The service is usually great, which is a plus; but the food is typically lackluster both for the franchise and for Elizabethton chains. Anything made to order has about a 75% risk of something going wrong: overlooked steaks, undercooked chicken, ingredients you wanted left off NOT being left off, general slow delivery. Many times the wait staff and management are noticeably irritated with the back of the house. It's the kind of place you can't stop yourself from ending up at when you've recently eaten at all the other joints, but you just know you're going to be disappointed by. read more

The staff here were all very good to me during a very hard time. My wife was very sick and almost died. She had to be entubated. Applebee's was close, and provided me with a good getaway from the hospital. They listened when I needed to talk, and seemed to really care. I did not expect this from the employees at a restaurant. After all, I was just another customer. Emily and Lakken especially deserve my thanks. Please tip them well if you go to this Applebee's. read more
