My wife, daughter and I recently ate at Applebee's. The service was good, that is to say not bad, until I asked about a military discount. I saw where Applebee's offered a 10 to 15 percent discount to active and retired military. (Look up military discount on Google) The waitress not only informed that there was no discount but did it in such a manner and so condescending of a tone of voice, that I should even ask such a thing. She said in a disrespectful voice "No we don't do that sort of thing for those people." I understand no discount, but I don't understand the disrespect, not only to me, but to military and veterans. I have not seen such disrespect for veterans since the 1970s. Needless, to say I won't be back there again, even if it is only one of the few places to eat in Galesburg, IL. read more

Holy Cow! I've seen cleaner restrooms at truck stops on I-94 at 2:00 in the morning. Both stools were loaded with feces, urine, and toilet paper. The urinals were also loaded with urine. Waste paper all over the floor which hadn't been mopped in hours if not days. If they keep their bathrooms in this condition, what do you suppose their kitchen is like? Seriously, I'll stay hungry before returning to Applebees anytime soon. It's a shame management is allowing this restaurant to appear like this. The employees were very nice and I know they count on a well run establishment to support their income. This is totally a failure of management to support them as well as their customers. I have held off on writing this review to allow me to be as fair as possible without being to emotional (or pissed off). On Dec. 30th 2024 at about 1:45 pm , we stopped by for lunch. when we came in there was not any staff around nor was there signage to wait to be seated. after a couple of minutes we choose to seat ourselves. the restaurant was about half full and after walking by many dirty tables, we did find a clean table. After about 10 minutes we noticed a guy and a waitress were standing down by the bar and they were not concerned about the customers or the dirty tables. We decide to call on the phone to get menus and drinks. This got the attention of the waitress and we got menus and a promise of being right back to take our order. Eventually, another waitress with a nasty attitude showed up and took our order. The guy standing by the bar continued to stand there. Several people came in after us and left because of the lack of attention. To get our drinks, my friend went and ask the standing around guy if we could get our drinks. He complained about how busy they were and they were short of help. We got our food which was typical Applebees food but had to ask for silverware and they finally found some. After eating, a lady came us by and ask how it was. We proceeded to tell her and the original waitress came up and started yelling at us and calling us liars. The lady was the assistant manager and told us the poorly dressed guy standing around was the general manager. The general manager was standing around while half the tables needed cleaned and customers were walking out. This Applebee's is always a craps shoot. Most of the time the food comes cooked wrong. Several of the waitresses are really snooty. A lot of the drinks don't have free refills. I don't order alcohol at Applebee's very often because the price of their drinks is sky high. The regular specials need to be freshened up a bit. The last time I went there I ordered a medium rare 8oz steak and it came to my table well done at one end and rare (I mean just barely seared) on the other. read more

This is the epicenter of any infectious diseases in the Midwest. I watched the bar tender rinse & clean glasses and I almost got sick at the bar. Go anywhere else in America and glasses are steamed and sterilized before being given to customers. Here? Well they shove all the dirty glasses into 3 different sinks consecutively and then drip dry, then they dish them out right back to new customers. I don't have anything against Applebees and don't have any complain about the food but my complain is about this particular Applebees in Galesburg IL. The racism there is a biggest issue. I went there for one time and couldn't stand how people were staring at us and we waited for 20 minutes for someone to comes and take our order. The staff were very rude with unpleasant attitude toward us. So we couldn't stand how people and staff were giving us evil looks and had to leave. The problem is not only with this restaurant but with the whole town. I think people should be treated equally no matter where are they from or what color are they but this is so sad to see in 2013 there are still many places that you need to be a specific race to fit in. Just had the four cheese Mac n cheese honey pepper chicken dish at Applebee's in Galesburg and was thoroughly dissatisfied. I remember when the dish first came out. The quality of the contents has really gone downhill. I am only going to be making this dish at home from now on. When I think of big chain restaurants I think of mediocre food and would only go there if I hadd to. But when your in Galesburg, a chain restaurant is probably one of the better choices. I have had bad experiences with other Apple Bee's but this one in particular is FANTASTIC. In my opinion, it is one of the best restaurants in Galesburg. The service is ehh but the food is delicious. I always get the streak with shrimp and cheese on top. Most of the time, they cook my steak perfectly. Once i got the steak a little under cook but i'll let that slide. Their shrimp spinach salad is one of the best salads I have ever had. I'm not even a fan of salad. What I do dislike about this restaurant is that sometimes you have to wait a long time before the food actually comes. Do I have to show my body in order to get faster service?!?! So, this past weekend I felt like taking my in-laws out for dinner. Since I had a gift card, I suggested Applebees. We walked in at 7pm on a Saturday night. Guess that's the good time to go, because we didn't have to wait in line. (The place was pretty full half an hour later.) The servers were friendly, even given that we moved tables after we ordered our drinks, because there was a pretty bad draft at our window-side table, and us ladies were getting downright cold. Unfortunately that meant that the couple who got our old table had to constantly direct our food to our new location. I ordered a hard root-beer float and the Whiskey Chicken. I wasn't very impressed by the whiskey sauce. It had a bitter tang, not in a good way. I had higher hopes for the mashed potatoes with cheese and jalapenos. The taters and cheese were alright but they'd topped it with nearly raw peppers. Not good. My mom and dad in-law said their deep fried chicken tenders and shrimp were tasty and filling, but I think the best thing I had were the wonton chicken tacos. I thought they had just the right amount of spice. Also, the tables are pretty close together, so I found the experience a bit claustrophobic. I think I had more room when I ate at the bar at another location in Florida. I won't be going back. Applebees is pretty much a bar with pub food, and not a whole lot of selection. Meh. read more

Drinks were watered down and mostly ice on top of that. Appetizers were cold and they kept bringing the wrong things to our table. Food was delivered sporadically instead of as a group. I eat out a lot, and have eaten at a few Applebee's across the nation, this was the worst food. We had to ask for things at least twice. We killed at least three, talked to the manager and he admitted that he stays and sprays after closing or before they open every day but he will call the pest control tomorrow. walked in today and received terrible service from the server. me and my wife were standing for long and she finally came and didn't greet us or anything. the only thing she said was " 2 people?". and I said yes, she grabbed two menus and started walking like we're not there. so we started following her, and she put the menu in a spot without asking us if we like it, then I told her I preferred another spot close to the bar, she didn't say anything and sounded pissed, while I was waiting for her to come to us, the phone rang and she picked it up without even saying anything to us leaving us in the middle of the restaurant waiting. So we decided to leave and don't come back because that is TOTALLY NOT AN ACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOUR. The food is great, but the service is more important. We normally love AppleBees but this one was horrible. We were passing through town. I ordered my favorite pasta dish that I've gotten so many times elsewhere. It was disappointing!! The noodles were mushy and a pile of nasty goo. I sent it back and asked for another. So quickly another dish came out. The noodles on the outside were done but again the noodles in the middle were nasty. I ended up not eating and went done the street and got Wendy's... Okay first off the chicken penne alfredo barley had any Alfredo sauce on it, my mother wanted broccoli with her steak and got corn instead, the waitress knew about it and didn't do anything to change it. My grandmother ordered a steak medium well and my brother ordered a steak medium rare, when they brought the food out the waitress screwed up and gave my grandmother the medium rare and my brother the medium well. I ordered a water with my meal and I finished my water within 5 minutes of ordering and had waited 30 minutes for it to be filled, after the 30 I had to go to the bar and have them fill my glass. The restaurant wasn't even busy! After eating, the waitress tried carrying all of the dirty dishes by herself and ended up spilling coffee everywhere and dropping a container of ranch dressing, didn't even wipe off the table for us. I will never go back to this establishment again. Tear down this Applebee's and build a TGI Fridays in stead. read more

Went for lunch today. My daughter ordered serloin with fries and apple sauce. She got broccoli instead of apple sauce and her fries were old and reheated in the microwave. Not old like they sat there for 10 minutes, but more like hours and then put in the microwave. I sent her whole plate back & asked for wings instead. The manager came over to apologize and said he took her meal off the ticket, which was great but in turn was charged for the wings so I was actually charged more than I originally would have. I ordered serloin with parmesan and shrimp on top with loaded mashed potatoes & broccoli. Steak and potatoes neither one had the toppings. The steaks are an odd grey color intead of pink and brown. Maybe from being frozen but they tasted odd and had a weird texture. Both friends that were with us ordered pasta but didnt get bread like it says in the menu. Their pasta was cold. Our food took forever to arrive but it's all good. We had the entertainment of the server in the neighboring section telling her table about how another table didn't tip her. She even offered to show them the check. When our food did arrive the steaks, which we ordered medium rare, were well done. We sent them back and never saw a manager or our server again until the steaks arrived again. The steaks were done but it was clear that our sides were the same servings as the first time. When I mentioned this to the waitress she said she would go get a clean bottom bun for me but it took forever and I probably could have finished my sandwich. She also kept setting everything from napkins to drinks to food in front of my infant daughter who wanted to grab everything.
