My appetizer arrived to the table at the same time as my meal which already took quite some time to get to the table. I asked for my steak to be cooked medium and it was so over well done. I asked for another and it took a while to get to me just for it to be even worse than the first. I was starving and ate half, asked for the check. With the check came a 3rd steak to take home. It's sad to see this place has gone downhill so badly and I think if management doesn't change, this establishment will not make it. We were passing thru The state of Illinois in June 2018. The restaurant was half full of patrons, yet the hostess seated us in the coldest empty section. Request for a relocation of seating was met with equally icy reception. New seating area was warmer but service and dining experience was downhill from there. Food quality was mediocre. The other reviews here spell it out well. There was trash and dropped food all over the dining room floor. Service was slow. Our waitress gave me the impression that she had come directly from prison, which honestly would not bother me if anyone had ever trained her to be a waitress. They also tried to tell us that Caeser salad is really supposed to be made with iceberg lettuce. If you really want Applebees, drive to Carbondale. Theirs is much better. read more

I am glad Applebee's Restautant is still open for carry out in Marion. On November 11, 2020 we ordered the Bourbon Street Chicken & Shrimp and Beer Pub Pretzels and both were delicious. Was so pleased to see the honey mustard was included with the pretzels and cheese sauce. We also ordered a Fish and Chips meal which was to include cole slaw, however it was not with the order. Since we were not eating until we arrived home, we did not notice it until after a 30 minute drive. Too late to go back and get it. Staff needs to check orders carefully to make sure all items are included. I will order again as food was very good, but will also check order before leaving. This has been a problem with other restaurants as well, which is very frustrating for the customer. read more

Unexceptable. We drove 6 hours to take my mom out for coffee and a dessert, to celebrate by sister's birthday today, who passed away in February. Our 3 coffees came in styrofoam cups, warm, and no cream. They were out. The waitress did give us a small container of milk, but plopped a handful of sweeteners and silverware in the middle of the table. We ordered ONE dessert and then, waited over 40 minutes!! We arrived fairly late after a long day of travel. Our large party was seated promptly at a comfortable 8 top. It has been a while since I've been to an Applebees and i was pleasantly surprised by the updated ambiance. The walls are no longer covered in cheap, crappy antiques. Instead the decor is now clean and sophisticated with a touch of homespun comfort. You truly feel at home in this Applebees. BUT, this is not your average neighborhood bar. The margaritas are a dollar and they have cheeseburger egg rolls. While the menu may be a bit challenging for dining novices, there is most definitely something for everyone . AND ... I don't know what's going on around here, but they're basically giving away appetizers. Everything is 2 for 1. Our waiter actually returned to the table after we placed our order to inform us that we did not order enough appetizers. We in fact still had restaurant credit for one more free appetizer. Not sure how this place is making money. Wow. A different waiter just delivered a free beer to our table for no reason. After finishing the meal, there wasn't very much steak in the steak quesadilla, the deep fried foods were a touch too crispy and the water tasted like it came from the river. This was the worst carry out food we have ever had. The Fiesta lime chicken was dry, tasteless and lacking the sauce it normally has. The rice was hard and dry. When we make plans to go out, this is where we go to dinner. I am absolutely addicted to their chicken won ton tacos (as noted in a previous Yelp review - different location). The won ton tacos keep me coming back and if I could go there everyday for them, I would. I also really love their pub pretzels and they make very nice mixed drinks. Worst dining experience I've had in Southern Illinois. Service was slow and unapologetic. A friend and I went prior to the lunch rush when the restaurant was only about 20% full. We waited 10 minutes for someone to seat us and another 25-30 minutes for someone to take our drink order. We were told by our server that someone had called in that morning and that's why it took so long. Okay, not really an acceptable excuse, but not surprising due to assumption she wasn't trained on customer service. Another 25-30 minutes had passed before we received our food. After requesting to speak to the manager, it was the manager himself, that brought out our food. After sharing my concern with him, his only reaction was to comp our food. Okay, thanks for the free meal, but you're missing the point. He provided the same explanation about an employee not showing for work. So really? One absent employee impacts the level of service you're able to provide?? As a consultant, I offered him some advice on dealing with customer complaints. Poor guy was in over his head, no wonder the staff were offering up excuses. Since I've yet to find any good gourmet burgers in the area, I sometimes come here for a decent burger. And they have a few decent burgers. But there is not really anything else drawing me here. I've always had decent service and usually sit at the bar, since I don't want to wait for a table. I have worked at this restaurant a couple of different times. Back in 2011-2013 Applebee's was ran by Corporate and it was definitely the place to be on the weekends! I went back in April of 2019 for a couple months and management does not care about the cleanliness of the restaurant at all. They barley pass any of their inspections done by Applebee's and Ecosure. I have been to many Applebee's before and they never disappointed until this one. I always order the cedar chicken and when I received it here it was dry, and the portion was smaller than normal. Let me start off my saying that my food was OK, I had the sirloin and bake potato which was cooked as ordered . The food took forever to get out, the kitchen as obviously slow because all the surrounding tables were complaining as well. My wife's food first came out and it was totally wrong, she ordered spicy chicken ravioli and they sent out beef. She then sent that back and after another 20 minute wait they finally arrived with the ravioli but no chicken. So, my wife never got the food she ordered and decided to call it quits and had me take her through a drive thru to get a burger. So, we called over the manager and after discussing our obvious frustration with the entire meal, he was "so kind" to discount our meal by $10 which didn't even cover the meal she didn't get. We were like "honestly, you expect us to pay for this meal" and his response was " his meal was OK so that's that best I can offer" WTH!!!!
