Food was one hour late and cold, uncooked and gross. Service was terrible and they straight up didnt care. Place was clean so i will give them that. Drinks were good as well. Staff were crap and were very rude. The food came out wrong and our server did not tell us wjat wasnt on the menu. Can't believe this is an actual restaurant. i went in yesterday at around 4:30pm. our server lincoln brought out or appetizers, after 40 minutes of sitting there waiting for our food to come out, he comes up to us and ask if we want our check, keep in mind he hasn't even brought our food out yet. He quickly realized and tan to his computer to figure out what went wrong. our food was never put in. we had soccer tryouts at 6pm. we expected to be there for a short period of time. we were very frustrated that it was getting closer to 6 and our food had not been brought out yet. when we asked yo speak to the manager, destiny walked out and was no help. she had no idea how to handle the situation. all she did was offer $5 off. This was so unacceptable. after being there for so long, we didn't get our food until about 5:40. An hour wait, multiple complaints, and only $5 off. never coming here again. read more

The experience was memorable. I shall always remember waiting 256 minutes for a waitress to come take our order. Busy, no only about 6 customers in place. Food very subpar, one of our party ordered a steak medium, do not know who taught cook, but I was tempted to through it across the room and yell " run you sucker you still have a chance to live. You're in Kansas, you need to adjust expectations. Overall this place is decent. The wait staff is always very nice and helpful; however, at the end of the day the food is still mediocre at best. As far as Newton KS goes, this is as good as it gets. Don't go to Applebee's expecting a perfect steak. It's just not going to happen. Instead, try a burger. Maybe some bone-in wings. Double Grey Goose and Soda is only $7.50, a bargain compared to where I am from! I had the same Green Goddess salad two nights in a row, and last night it was better. Tonight the cook skimped on the toppings and there was very little dressing on the lettuce making it a little dry. It wasn't bad, but I expected some consistency. He probably saved me 200 calories, and for that I thank him . The servers at the bar are friendly. I would have liked to know that appetizers are half price after 9pm, though. Horrible service. Seriously one of the worst apple bees I've ever been too. We went as a family of 7 they sat us at the smallest table we asked if we could add another table or sit separately across from each other and we got attitude from several employees. The hostess also kept creeping around the corner to stare. They got our order wrong several times! Also, lied when we didn't get our baked potatoes on the side the one waitress claimed they were out of potato's because they forgot to add them. The 2nd person to come out to our table said no we have them they're making them now. The waitress also spilled ranch on my boyfriends pants. Although she was very sweet. Also adding that the manager in training needs a lot more training. The only sweetest person and most helpful was a lady named Jessica. The food it's self was great!! The service on the other hand was unprofessional and this place needs extra training from corporate on how to be more professional and deal with the paying customers a lot better. read more

I have never felt need to comment on Yelp ever but all I can say is was very disappointed in this particular Applebee's, and wish we would have seen other Yelp reviews before stopping but since was driving could not. Should have known as hard as it was to get there off highway and hostess's reaction to our arrival, should been a sign to walk away. Got much worse......service was slow food subpar, plus my wife ordered tortilla soup, which was her main course. At first after receiving from waiter and saw maybe 4 scoops of something resembling soup and mound of tortilla chips, the waiter agreed looked suspect so their answer was a smaller bowl of soup with same 4 scoops of some liquid and less chips. At this point we gave up and just wanted to go after spending and miserable hour here. Then we decided to use facilities and where not surprised to see conditions were not pristine or even good. Well, this is a first for me. I've never written a yelp review, EVER! So we get seated and start looking over the menu. Enough time goes by that I decide to fiddle with the electric device provided for me at my table. I see I can order my appetizer from my table-side electronic. I go ahead and order because by this time a lengthy amount of time has expired. Finally our waiter comes by to get our drink order. So much time has gone by, we're ready to order our drinks and food. My husband orders a side of tortilla soup ( the small one) apparently the menu is wrong, you only get one size. Okay! Then the "great wait". This waiter took so much time getting our drinks that I was convinced he forgot we were sitting there. I start taking a count of tables to waitstaff ratio. Can you believe there were enough waitstaff for each table to have their own waiter/waitress? It was after lunch and pretty slow. I even saw a manager come out and look around only to turn back and head to the kitchen. The kitchen staff rocked it. With how busy the waitstaff was (sarcasm), the kitchen staff brought out my appetizer and everything. It was about that time we received our drinks. So feeling a little frazzled from my day, I ordered the "special" for their alcoholic beverages. Ummm there's absolutely no polite way to explain this drink. Possibly fermented urine! This drink was baddddd! Our waiter comes back to quickly ask me if I would like my salad before my meal. "Yes, please", I responded. Our food followed fairly quickly. Again, the kitchen had it going on. They were on it. I have interesting diet restrictions so I'm always nervous about what I'm getting myself into. Lord Jesus, the food was amazing, truly wonderful. I had the cedar grilled salmon with mustard glaze. It really was very good. I then finished my water and sat it at the end of the table so it would clearly be visible to any one of the 6 waitstaff. I finally gave up and drank my husband's water. I did have almost all 6 waitstaff walk past me. Perhaps I should've said something. I did attempt to get the attention of many of them walking by but I'm not comfortable yelling, "hey do you mind". We then got our bill! Now I'm a former waitress and under no circumstances do you stiff your waiter/waitress. But you do tip 10% when they fail you and that was exactly what he got. It's unfortunate for him because typically I'm a big tipper. If you exceed my expectations I'm very grateful and take good care of your tip. I like to make sure to show my gratitude to those who understand, it's the experience I'm paying you for. The cooks get paid, you work on tips, for god sakes, it's the experience I'm paying you for. I do agree that this restaurant is pretty middle of the road, not that exciting... I mean Applebee's restaurants are everywhere in the midwest. However, to rate it higher because Newton doesn't have much to choose from is a bad idea. If you are looking for a chain, sit-down, restaurant you've got either Applebee's or Montana Mikes... and I would definitely choose Applebee's. There are some wonderful locally owned joints too though with great food! Reba's Restaurant and Bar on main is fantastic, upscale, and creative. Prairie Harvest is a great lunch joint and organic grocer. Tacos Mexico is great for authentic Mexican and Chong's is the best Asian food in town. read more

Ate there for lunch today. The employees were so helpful and nice. I think our waiter forgot to come take our order after he brought our drinks, but once he came back things went smoothly. I don't believe he asked if we wanted more to drink before he brought our tickets. Food was great...I had the chicken planks platter and everything was very tasty. Over the course of the year, the food and service have tanked. Entrees seldom come out right, over priced, staff who would rather not be there (morale is in the toilet)....they even say it out loud, poor bartenders (Tammy is the exception), and apps that seldom come out right. Often guests find themselves sending food back. Staff are so numb to it that they have started to build the Us vs. Them mentality. Simply put, Applebee's is not worth the money or the time. Case in point, it is usually only busy after 9pm when apps go to half price. A shame that a restaurant can only get people in when their food is HALF PRICE. Don't bother complaining however, the top brass who are supposed to oversee Applebee's, could care a less. Time to clean out the barn Stevens! Seriously. Worst restaurant experience I've ever encountered. My family was disrespected and discriminated against and it was crystal clear what was going on. We were seated and no one came to take our order for drinks until 10 minutes after we sat, took another 15 minutes to actually receive our drinks. Then our server was clearly pointing at our table and discussing with co workers, but would not come take our order. Had to ask another server to take our order. We then waited about a half hour until our food order was taken and then another half hour to actually get our food. After waiting an hour, we finally get our food and they got the order COMPLETELY WRONG. Nothing that they brought us was remotely close to what we had ordered. It looked like it had been sitting in the kitchen for at least a few minutes and was cold. 3 different servers were asked to go check on our correct food and never came back. We simply left the Applebee's and will never be back. We truly felt discriminated against and it was a very disappointing visit. Something needs to be done with the management there. In most places, Applebee's would be at the bottom of my list of places to go, but this is not like most places. This is Newton, Kansas, where the bleak culinary landscape consists mostly of fast food franchises, bad pizza joints, and mediocre independent restaurants. Applebee's is one of the few decent choices, which given the low bar is not exactly a huge compliment. Like any Applebee's, the food is pretty middle of the road, and is hard to distinguish from other middle of the road franchise restaurants like Chili's, TGI Friday's or Ruby Tuesday's. The service level beats most local restaurants hands down, but this location has been inconsistent at times, but always friendly. I don't think one of my favorite dishes, Sizzling Fajita's has actually ever been "sizzling" when it reached the table. Much of the food is not exactly a model for healthy living, but I give them credit for their nine Weight Watcher's selections, and I have actually found the Cajun Lime Tilapia to be delicious, healthy and well prepared. The prices are modest and a current promotion of $0.99 kids meals on Tuesday and Thursday's makes for an exceptional bargain for those with kids. read more

My husband and I go to Applebee's in Newton KS every Friday night for drinks and dinner. On this Friday we went and we always sit at the Bar March 29th around 7:00pm. When we get there a bartender Brianna B was there and another Bartender Angelica. Right away Bri (what she goes by) asked what we wanted to drink and got our drinks. Then left. Never got us a menu or silverware. So then about 20 minutes later I asked Angelica if we could get menus and silverware. Not even 5 minutes later Bri asked what we wanted to work and Angelica told her they just go the menus they aren't ready. During this time Bri cussed over 5 times. She told care of 2 other customers and chatted with them I believe she knew them. Finally Angelica took our food order and got us more drinks. We finished dinner and was never asked if we wanted dessert or another drink. Bri them cussed 4 more times and was complaining about her pregnancy over and over again. Finally I asked for our bill from Angelica and we paid and left. This is very disappointing knowing we love to come and have dinner there every Friday night. Not a good time. I truly believe they need to re-think Bri being behind the bar and then need to let Angelica know she is a good bartender but she needs to be just a little bit more friendly. Service and food quality has dropped to an awful level lately. Took over 30 minutes for the food to come out. Had two people in our group order steak medium well and they came out completely black and looked like charcoal briquettes. Waitress had to be asked anytime someone wanted drink refills or to take away empty plates. read more
