Our visit to Applebee's was long overdue. Looking over the menu the item that caught my eye was their Prime Rib Dipper, a sandwich with sliced prime rib and cheese, designed to be dipped au jus. Similar to French dip except in this case the bread was very soft and not that tough crusty baguette or even a softer French roll. It's listed on the menu as a toasted cheddar roll. It was a good sandwich. There wasn't too much filling and what there was kept falling out, but I had no trouble eating it all. The French onion au jus was ok, not as salty as I expected. This entrée came with a side. I'm trying to reduce my French fry intake so I selected their seasoned broccoli and it was an excellent choice. Service was a little off, nothing serious. It wasn't very busy when we stopped in which made it easy to hold a conversation. The inside is large with a distinctive sports bar feel, lots of TVs and pictures of local sports teams. read more

What a very nice place. This is the cleanest Applebee's that I've ever been to. Infact my hubby and I asked if this location was new. The outside was pristine as well as the inside. We popped in for a late lunch and got their big meal deals. My hubby got their big clucking chicken sandwich fries and iced tea. I got their classic bacon cheeseburger minus the cheese also with fries and a coke. Our food was very good and satisfying. My hubby really enjoyed the flavorful crispy chicken and seasoned fries. I enjoyed my classic bacon burger it was so very juicy and flavorful. The fries were perfectly seasoned and tasty. Our drinks were delicious & refreshing. Our server Monte was spot on! What I like about Applebee's is they're always open when everyone else is closed. Sometimes we stop in for a late night salad or boneless wings right after a show at Ruth Eckerd Hall. It's not Michelin-rated food but the wait staff are always nice. I think the Applebees on McMullen Booth Road and Clark Road in Clearwater deserves an interior renovation, they're worth it. read more

I read a bunch of the negative reviews, not sure if they thought it was the Waldorf, but come on people it is Applebee's a sports bar and grill. We had to go to Sarasota today, for the first time. A nice drive from Sebring. After our appointments we stopped in for a light lunch before heading home. We were immediately greeted and showed to a table. Our drink order was taken and came quickly. Had the chicken salad and the steak dip sandwich, both came hot and fairly quickly. Our server kept checking on us throughout the meal. Was clean and cool, TVs were on with no sound, nice to dine and have a conversation, without shouting!! Price was expected for a sports bar, not excessive at all. I've never been a huge fan of Applebee's. But while visiting a friend in North Port I wanted to watch the Ravens football game with other Flock members. And I found a group in Sarasota and this was their meeting spot. They did have the entire patio, so I understand why they like this spot. I arrived a few minutes after the game started, found a spot at a table full of Ravens fans. Everyone already had food and drinks and it took at least 10 minutes to be waited on. I ordered only a drink while debating whether to order food. The nice lady beside me offered a piece of her chicken quesadilla, so I tried it. I wasn't impressed as it lacked flavor. I saw a sign offering $6 appetizers for football Sunday. There was no menu available to tell me what was on special so I asked the server. I decided to order the spinach and artichoke dip. It was OK. It had some, but not much flavor. The chips were not warm. I finished it because I was hungry. The server was friendly and was quick to bring my check when requested. If I go back again to meet up to watch the game, I will eat before I go because I don't like feeling as though I wasted my money. read more

We ordered takeout via their online ordering. We haven't visited this chain in ages and wanted something to takeout that was close by. Proximity was probably its best feature. The inside is a typical sports bar atmosphere. When we got home we realized that our order was incomplete. Two of the three meals were missing sides, one meal missing its dipping sauce. So we called, and went back. They handed us a bag, which was STILL MISSING one side. The missing side (soup) took 10 minutes to prepare. By the time we got home again the two entrees missing sides were cold. Overall portions were large. My soup was good after I finally got it. Chicken tenders ok. Sirloin was tough, though it was one of the entrées that had to be reheated. Maybe quality would have been better had we gotten to eat while fresh? Grilled chicken burger with onion rings was the best of the three. Zero apologies for the errors, no offer to remake the now cold entrées and no incentive offered for our disappointing experience. While the food was ok, it wasn't great and the poor service makes me disinclined to give it another shot. read more

Apparently they are under new management. Been going here for years. Came back to town in September and went, asked for well done burger got it with blood in the plate. Sent it back. A few weeks later went again (anyone can have a bad day) Again bad meal and bartender is useless. Went a third time hoping for the best and this time I got plastic wrapper cooked in my food. Manager came out and said he would remove from the bill. They never did. He went to three different tables apologizing for the bad food and service. The televisions were on. Aside from that, there was no indication that I was going to be served. The restaurant not particularly busy, but, after being seated, I received no help. No water. Good hot food at the Applebee's restaurant on 5490 Clark Road, Sarasota, Florida. It was well prepared, our waitress was friendly & the manager greeted us with a smile. Service was great. Sadly, a bad patron eating in there when we were berated the poor store Manager. -- She was being berated by a nasty & rude man with black straight hair, was medium aged & speaking with a heavy accent eating there as well, along with his wife & son. He was simply awful, & all because he ordered an entree & customized it, removed something & added something -so of course it could possibly get confusing when rung up - so it was accidentally rung in incorrectly & then on his receipt wrong 2 times. He berated his waitress loudly for several minutes - she apologized, he wouldn't take her apology, then he demanded she get manager - the restaurant manager came over took responsibility & apologized profusely, he wouldn't accept it and kept berating her for several more minutes, so she kept apologizing as he continued to be condescending & being threatening toward her by saying it would look bad if he gave her bad reviews -she kept apologizing & said she made it right now was terribly sorry for mistake & inconvenience...but he went on a tirade, saying I wear glasses, & what if I left my glasses at home & just paid the check, I'd be out of my money then! He was simply a ridiculous fool, an unkind & unintelligent man in a public place loudly berating the two women for making an honest mistake. 1st -his waitress, then the manager, loudly interrupting all of the rest of us, the other paying patrons meals. He continued on being rude, loud & clearly ignorant by berating her with his loosely veiled threat of giving her restaurant bad reviews. To add insult to public admonishing her, he condescended to her by saying, "you wouldn't like that now-would you"! She kept saying sorry, what can I do to make it right? I've fixed the check for you - & then there it was... he wanted something for nothing, he wanted a free gift certificate which she gave him just to get him to go after ten solid minutes of this jerk making a scene. Then the audacity of this leach, he smiled & said, "yes, thank you very much, that would fix it". She goes & gets the free certificates it hands them to him & he leaves saying," I have plenty of money I don't need this, however he took it and left immediately. Manager was approached by myself & several other patrons saying she handled him much better than he deserved. This guy was so loud & condescending & just a gross human being, he should've had the police called on him for disturbing the peace instead of getting a free certificate. Our food was very fresh & hot, the staff was prompt & friendly so to see a nasty human like this this guy scare her into giving him free $20 in certificates by threatening her for over 10 minutes with a bad review he said, to hurt her reputation & career was the worst case of a person & his family displaying the worst side of humanity & lack of kindness. This guy needs a lesson in basic human decency. Pitiful display of arrogance & ignorance combined. But great job Applebee's young woman manager, working at 3:20 pm on Saturday, October14, 2023. I had to run to Sarasota today with my mom. We went to the Applebees on Clark road while waiting for the vets office.Definitely not the best service. First business looked pretty slow it was not crowded at all. After getting my heiniken. 0.0 I asked for a glass...never got one. I originally decided not to get any food but changed my mind. The bartender (I think her name was Jess) brought out the plates but never asked me if I wanted to order, mom had to put a bottle of beer on the edge of the bar to get the bartender to stop and get her another beer we left shortly after without getting any food or even that glass for my beer. Food was good but the service was appalling. Waitress stood around other tables talking to people and not attending to customers already seated. Went for the all you could eat and instead of asking if we wanted more she brought our check. Never brought refills for drinks then had to wait 20 minutes to get our second helping because she forgot about us. Then she walked around complaining to customers about other customers watching many customers just getting up and walking out because they were never helped. At an hour I went in and asked the manager if we were going to be able to get our drinks or food if they were ready. Tried to order on DoorDash for meat allergy. Person on phone told me they knowingly give vegetarians food cooked in meat grease because 'it's different it's not an allergy' I had to explain that taking a vegetarian meal and cooking it in meat grease no longer makes it a vegetarian meal. Vegetarians beware all food is cooked in same fryer as meat. If I could give less stars I would. Absolutely terrible. FYI if you're a vegetarian and have eaten here you can sue for them knowingly making you eat meat. read more

We hadn't been Applebee people for quite sometime and not really sure why. Maybe it's just too corporate, but they certainly have changed their menu and I think somewhat our attitude toward the place. We've had two meals recently at two different Sarasota locations. On our first visit to the Clark Road location, I was not impressed by my selection of ($11.69) Double Crunch Shrimp. A pile of fried shrimp like those flat as a board fried shrimp from the grocery store freezer section. They were plentiful, crunchy and tasteless served with equally unimpressive fries and a small side of coleslaw. My wife enjoyed her selection of beef fajitas ($12.29) although she felt it was prepared with a heavy hand and oilier than need be...more on this later. Another of our group had a 9oz "House" Sirloin ($12.99) served with a vegetable and choice of potato. Cooked as ordered and he was pleasantly surprised. And our fourth had the Fiesta Lime Chicken served with a "Mexi-Ranch" dressing. I guess Mexi-Ranch is a corporate kitchen creation but the meal was enjoyed. Our second visit was to the University Parkway location. At that location they have a gizmo that looks like wireless mouse that is used to "page" your waitress. Kind of a fun innovation and if they don't respond in a timely manner you can always take the thing and heave it in their direction. Fortunately, the service was fine so no pager toss was needed. I tried a new item (their menu is loaded with NEW ITEM logos) Sizzling Asian Shrimp at $9.99. Really a tasty dish with many fresh shrimp, broccoli, bok choy, mushrooms, red peppers, water chestnuts and a sprinkling of wonton strips in a spicy sauce. The server advised it is quite spicy and she was right but just the right amount for me. The bottom of the sizzling platter is covered in microwave prepared white rice and could have used more sauce. She suggested some "stir fry" sauce and it was the perfect addition. My wife is attracted to their Weight Watcher tie-in that lists the calories of each WW dish. #1 She's the last one at the table that needs to eat light and right (she's slim and trim, guess that's why huh?) and #2 she finds the calorie counts hard to believe. This time she chose the WW item Grilled Dijon Chicken with Portobello mushrooms ($9.49). The mushroom was cut into thin strips along with roasted red pepper strips, and served with a steamed vegetable medley and some small cubed red potatoes. She enjoyed the steamed vegetables but really liked how the potatoes were prepared. Our two experiences earn the food a good rating. The "new" items menu is just chock full of corporate kitchen creations, not necessarily a bad thing and maybe a nice switch from the restaurant chains that try so hard it pretend their homegrown and local....I'm talking about you Johnny and Damien. Our one recurring complaint is in the preparation and presentation of the food. It is heavy handed and lacks any touch. My wife's fajitas were served in kind of hap-hazard chunks rather than strips, the platter looked greasy. Both our fajita and Asian Shrimp dishes were presented with food and seasonings all over the plate. It was hard to tell if this was the nouvelle cuisine style of sprinkling parsley and such around the edge or just plain sloppiness. Is it a heavy handed cook or a lackadaisical expediter? My family came in last night. The host, who I also believe must have been the manager, was dismissive and lacked basic social and customer service skills. When we came in she greeted us with a strange statement, after we had been standing there for a few minutes. I honestly can't even remember what she said, just that it was so strange for a way to be greeted in a restaurant. Our server, Rey, sat us. He was pleasant, quick, and kind. When our appetizer came the other server running the food basically threw it on our table. I asked for some sauce and she threw her nose in the air and said she would let the server know. She didn't. When we informed him we got it right away. When they brought our dinner it was the same attitude driven girl (with her backside hanging out of her shirt btw) and the host/I think manager. They did not even say hello I have x y z. " who had..." like they had never been in the industry before and didn't understand basic manners. Our server checked on us many times and was very polite. While we were waiting to checkout we saw the hostess/I assume manager check on many tables around us ignoring us entirely. As we were actually signing our check the same waitress/food runner came over and said "is this your entree?" while holding food. I don't know if basic observation is a required skill there but it does not seem to be. Her shirt was showing the top of her tush on all three occasions. That is not something people should have to see while eating. The only part of this experience that was great was the food was good and our server was too. The others need jobs where they don't need to interact with others. We of course paid our bill in full without complaint and tipped our server 30% because I can't imagine having to work around those two people. read more

It was a foggy evening, I stumble into the local Applebees with my comrades searching for a place to famish our hunger. To our dismay, the food provided missed the mark on several levels. To start, my burger was a soggy mess of grease. It tasted like someone marinated a hockey puck in chicken grease and chucked it on two wet soggy buns. Secondly, my friends salad had stale dry croutons equivalent to sand. My friends siesta live chicken was a massive confusion. The dish was poorly composed and overall made no sense. To place a chicken breast covered in cheap cheese on a bed of soggy tortilla chips is a revolting combo. An overall disgusting meal and contributes to why competitors such as chilis and geckos continue to blow Applebees out of the water. read more
