This awesome spot on the Applegate is a local favorite. Families tend to take up the real estate since there is something for everyone in the group. 1st off, be sure to go get your day use pass from the office($5, good for a few of the other parks nearby). They have a pretty active parking crew checking vehicle payment... I've heard they have no qualms with breaking windows, slashing tires, or even throwing a boot on for the deadbeats/delinquents. I mean come on, $5 is a cheap price to pay for a great day on the lake (you and your carload of people). The biggest draw is probably the sandy beach just down from the lawn... couple that with the great water temp and you got a good recipe for a chill day. Campground isn't really off the beaten path, as in you will have neighbors. Friendly hosts and convenient little market (though buy your ice prehand). This is not a pull-up-to-your-campsite type of set-up. Unless you pack really lightly (like hike it in lightly) you will need to use their provided wheel burrows to get your gear in. It's a bit of a workout :) Getting lakeside was also a bit of a trek due to the lake being so receded. The lake was it's lowest ever this year, according to the camp host- so 2020 will be a short season. Water temperature was wonderfully cool (but not cold). Go soon if you are planning on going at all. Lastly, if you are a bit adventurous you don't need to buy wood here- there is plenty driftwood lying around. read more

My family and I, having recently moved to the beautiful Rogue Valley, decided to explore some of the natural beauty nearby. Unfortunately, we trusted Google for recommendations of nearby lakes to visit. Applegate Lake looked appealing. We followed Google's directions to "Hart-tish" park on the lake. When we arrived to the turn-off for the park, the gates were wide open and the only official signs we saw informed us of the five dollar day-use fee and directed us to the general store to pay. One sign (printed on an 8x10 sheet of paper), at the entrance to a boat ramp, that also only halfway crossed the entrance (seeming to clearly indicate that the ramp is open since there were vehicles visible beyond it), said "USE PARKING AREA (something, something too small too read) GENERAL STORE." We followed the very clear instructions and parked at the general store to pay our fee. We parked in front of the store, which had a woman and a man sitting on the porch. My wife got out of the car with $5 and approached the two people to pay our fee. My wife was greeted by a gruff, rude, extremely unfriendly man who proceeded to insult my wife questioning her intelligence, her morals, and her motivation. As I remained in the car at that time, I did not hear the entire train of insults. Nevertheless, this man, apparently named "Guy" (he was reluctant to share much information beyond his cowardly insults to my wife), brought my wife to tears. "Guy" had questioned my wife about "What could possibly be going through your head that you would drive past our signs and closed gates?" He asked "What gives you the right?" He implied that my wife must think she has "special privileges" to just drive into a closed park. All of this was happening as our 9-year old daughter and our friend were excitedly unpacking their raft and gear looking forward to getting on the lake. Of course, they were extremely disappointed about being turned away, and upset about the way we were treated. At this point we were questioning what we did, or didn't, see. We drove back to the entrance to check the signs. I took photos of the opened gate, which turned out to have two 8x10 printed sheets stuck to it that said "HART-TISH IS CLOSED", and "ALL DELIVERIES PLEASE DRIVE DOWN TO GENERAL STORE." Anyone entering this park would simply see the opened gate and the five-dollar day-use fee sign. A driver would need to look ninety degrees out the passenger side window in order to see the tiny 8x10 sign on the gate that is opened up against the bordering trees. We decided to drive back to the "general store" to confront the two with this information. "Guy" didn't care. "Guy" said we should have seen the sign. My wife, visibly upset, went back to the car. I asked Guy to apologize. "Guy" said "I apologize" with a snide smirk on his face. When I asked him for a sincere apology he said three times "I apologize." "Guy" would not apologize to my wife. "Guy" continued to smirk and act insincere. He never moved from his little porch chair. "Guy" never acknowledged that he may have overreacted or come on too strong. If you and your family are planning a trip to Applegate Lake do not visit Hart-Tish park, and do not give them any of your money. And by all means, avoid "Guy" as much as possible. Also, "Guy", who wouldn't share his last name, reluctantly told me the name of the owners are a company named "AZTOOR." We're looking into making a complaint about "Guy" to his employers. read more

We arrived at the park after it had closed for the season. Unbeknownst to us the park had closed last weekend. When we got the General Store to pay the day use fee we were accosted by one of the employees named Guy basically calling us self entitled idiots for being there and asking us why we had driven past his sign and opened the gate. There had been no gate and we had not seen any signs except for the many that pointed us in his direction to pay our fee. I told him this and he all but called me a liar. We went back and took pictures of everything and showed him. He never apologized for the way he had treated us. We will enjoy Applegate lake again but never at Hart-tish. read more

Super beautiful clean spot however the elder camp host was down right evil. He chapped me & my kids for climbing a dead tree ( in the middle of the forest w no sign) and blamed them for destroying a bird house they were actually trying to fix. The rest of Oregon has amazing hosts who actually like people. This guy was horrid - meanwhile someone's dog attacked my 3 year old and he didn't do a thing- You think they could find a person who is actually useful- not just bitter & old with nothing better to do then abuse a women and her children. read more
