Our camping neighbors had all the fun water toys!
    Carrie M.

Absolutely beautiful campground. Enormous sites, water and electric hook up. No sewer, but dumping station at exit. Trash not very convenient and a mile walk to the recreation area/reservoir for water play. You could be so lucky to have neighbors that brought all the water fun you need. Truly only real negative is no close area to elk if any needs such as ice.

This is a beautiful county campground. Located on the upper Rogue River, there are 38 campsites,…read more16 of which have water/electric hookups. There is a boat ramp and access to the Rogue River and Elk Creek. Campsites are $26/night for hookups, $22/night for no hookups. Sites are level and spacious. Camp host is friendly. When we first arrived, we realized our reserved site (#15) had no shade whatsoever, which was an issue because we were in the middle of a major heat wave with 90-100 degree heat. We were lucky, because we were able to find an unreserved site that had full shade. If you want shade, stay away from Site 15. Another issue with site 15 is that it is right next to the spot on the river where rafters pull out, so it gets a lot of foot traffic. There were people who parked their cars in what was our reserved site, even though it had a reserved sign on it. We were happy in our new site, but the beast of this campground is the road noise. The campground is located RIGHT NEXT TO Crater Lake Highway 62. We knew this when we made the reservations, but in reading the reviews no one had mentioned road noise. We didn't realize how much traffic there would be, especially truck traffic, all through the night. The highway curves near the campground, so it is a section where drivers are constantly braking, then accelerating as they go up the hill. Also, like many campgrounds, the vibe changes on the weekend. The weekend campers were noisier and messier. I have to say, in all the camping we have done, I have never been in a campground where campers left food, clothes, trash, etc. out all over tables and the ground the entire time they were in their sites. I'm not a neat freak, and I know we are here to relax because "we're camping", but I have never seen anything like it. Also, the dumpster near our campsite was full, and even though there was a sign asking people to take their trash to a nearby dumpster that was not full, people just dumped their trash on the outside of the dumpster, where it piled up. Such a shame. Quite an eyesore until the trash was finally picked up days later.

The showers and restrooms were very clean and the bathroom always kept warm for hot showers. Thank you Amanda! Who was also great! When booking our spot Cathy was also super helpful and accomodatin g. And their store prices were very reasonable, unlike most campsite general stores and they had everything we needed. This place is by far oiur most favorite place to stay....a definite 5 star plus. Also, their cabins and yurts are so cute and homey! we are already booking for next month! She said she would come get us in 10 or 20 minutes which she never did. When I asked what happened 45 minutes later as we waited she became combative. Told me I couldn't expect a window tabke on Memorial Day when she just told us we could get one if we waited ten or 20 minutes. She was ridiculous, telling me there were no window tanked available, when I had a reservation AND waited per her instructions. It ruined my husband's birthday. The host there was rude and condescending when we just wanted the table we reserved and waited for. Wish I had gotten her name, but we just left pissed off. You know what? Maybe don't put a child there? With no manners. It's not the first time it's happened to us either. It's a bad look for LOW and it ruined my husband's birthday for no reason. She told us 10 to 20 minutes. Then she was pissed that we wanted the table we reserved. Were are disappointed because we are locals who go there all the time. What utter bullshit. That host cost you money. I hope you at least talk to the person. She has a bad attitude and we did not. I guess she was freaked out because it was busy? Whatever it was, she was inappropriate and ruined our day. Will start going to Harriman's or the Running Y. They are decent and respectful to people. Christ! Do something. Thank you!

To be fair, this was one of the busiest weekends I've ever seen there. As a business owner myself, I understand that on extremely busy days things don't always go as planned, and because of that I was willing to overlook quite a bit. We stayed in Chipmunk Condo Cabin #3. The cabin had a musty smell and a very small bathroom. The beach area was great for families, and my daughter absolutely loved it. The biggest issue was the food and customer service. Around 2 PM on our first day, we stopped to get pizza for lunch while waiting for our cabin and found out they were already sold out. Since there aren't many nearby dining options, I stopped by the lodge around 6:45 PM to specifically ask when they stopped seating guests. The two younger employees seemed annoyed and unsure but eventually told me the last seating would be at 7:45 PM. I explained that I was traveling with my wife, a 2-year-old, and a 3-month-old, and that driving an hour to Ashland or Klamath Falls for dinner wasn't ideal. We hurried back to the cabin, got ready, and returned around 7:35 PM, only to be immediately told they couldn't seat us because they were too busy and had a large party. My question was simple: Why wasn't I told that when I specifically came in earlier to ask? Had they explained the situation, I would have gladly come sooner. After asking to speak with a manager, who never actually came out, we were suddenly able to be seated. Once inside, there were several empty tables available, which made the whole situation even more confusing. Our server seemed annoyed from the moment we sat down. We decided to order our food to go instead of dining in, and even that seemed to bother him. When I politely provided feedback about the miscommunication, his response was essentially, "Well, we got you seated, didn't we?" That completely missed the point. The issue wasn't whether we eventually got a table. The issue was being given incorrect information and then nearly being turned away despite arriving before the stated seating cutoff. The next morning, we discovered mice had chewed through snacks we had left on the kitchen counter overnight. There are no cabinets available to store food. When I reported it, the manager apologized and explained that even the cabin she lives in on-site has mice because they're in the forest. While that explanation makes sense, it didn't make my wife feel any better with a 3-month-old baby sleeping in the cabin. The second day, pizza was available for lunch and was actually very good. The older gentleman working there was friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, when we returned around 6 PM for dinner, pizza was sold out again. My wife then tried ordering dinner to go from the lodge and was given a completely different takeout menu that excluded many of the better dinner options, including items we had ordered to go the night before. When she asked if she could order from the regular dinner menu, she was told absolutely not. The inconsistency made no sense. At that point, we'd had enough. Between the restaurant issues, the mice, and the overall lack of customer service, we decided to cut our trip short and leave a day early. The lake and beach are beautiful and have the potential to make this a great family destination. Unfortunately, poor communication, inconsistent service, restaurant issues, and mice in the cabins overshadowed what could have been a wonderful stay. Mice may be part of being in the woods, but regular preventative pest control inside the cabins would go a long way toward making guests feel more comfortable.

Each campsite comes with a small fire pit, a picnic table, a trash can, a parking space for 2 cars, and a good size camp site. There are water spickets nearby the campsites. There are also flush toilets, automatic water sinks, automatic paper towel dispensers; all of which are well maintained. There are pay showers, if you wish to utilize being clean (50 cents for 4 minutes). Check the web site for all details of the campground. There is also a camp host in case of any emergencies or rowdy campers. Actually, there was one campsite that blared some music past 10pm (noise curfew) for an hour, which I went over there and ask him to turn it down (which he obliged). I will say that many of the campers were more on the strange side (drifters, displaced individuals, and the likes), all which seemed harmless. It seemed that 85% of the campers that were there, all had a dog or two. The Applegate River is about a quarter mile away. My family enjoyed playing in the river twice while we were camping here. Cantrall-Buckley County Park is literally across the street from the campground. And of course, our purpose for camping here was to visit Applegate Christian Fellowship with Pastor Jon Courson (located about 1 mile away). Be aware of speed traps coming into the valley here. There are occasionally police officers stationed along this route.

The snowy surroundings created a nice contrast against the very deep blue color of the lake. In the early morning, it was very peaceful. There were not many people around, likely because of weather. Lot's of cute shops for goodies and campgrounds along the way. We stayed an hour away but the drive felt fast and scenic. A nice breath of fresh air. The large parking lot seemed to fill up fast to see the lake, but super close so very accessible. A few hikes were open but honestly just sitting and admiring the lake does the trick.
