Prior to signing up with All About Dogs, they took a ton of time answering my questions and allowing me to observe a class and talk with their trainers to make sure the class would be an appropriate fit for him. Most reactive dog classes would disqualify him because he is reactive to strangers, and that human reactivity is something we have found many trainers will not work with. I was, and remain, impressed by their thorough and honest assessments of each dog as an individual, their ability to see the potential in their students, and their celebration of every milestone reached along the way. Pam and Colleen also have worked with us individually to do a behavior assessment with my dog and determine his needs within and outside the classroom setting. We received an 8 page document from that assessment, full of straightforward and thoughtful insights, tips, and continued management strategies. The trainers are kind, compassionate, and never push my dog farther than he can go for the sake of seeing progress or immediate results, which has been critical to genuinely helping him get better. We consulted with several other trainers and did a few private sessions with others before finding All About Dogs, and my only wish is that I had found them sooner. My hope is that we will be able to continue making progress and eventually "graduate" from Rowdy Rovers to their Levels Training, and I do feel confident that with time and continued work, we will be able to. Dog Training is an unregulated field, and anyone can call themselves a trainer. The difference with All About Dogs is they have years and years of science based education and certifications to support their passion for helping dogs and their people. Both Pam and Colleen hold CPDT-KA certifications and all their methods are positive and force free. I am so grateful to have found them and look forward to continuing learning with them. Another interesting note is that both Pam and Colleen are regular presenters at the annual APDT (Association for Pet Dog Trainers) conference, a testament to their knowledge and experience in the field of dog training!

When I first met with Jay during our evaluation my pup Nalani was very afraid and unsure of someone…read morenew being in our home. She would not go near him or listen to any commands we tried to use. Jay explained to us the approach he would use during training and I told him about the different goals I had for Nalani. I did some research after our evaluation with Jay and decided that he would be the best fit for us and for training Nalani. There are two things that really stood out with Jay compared to the other companies I looked at, the first being that the was no shock collar involved and the second being that all training was done in home with me or my husband. These were important to me because I didn't want to rely on a collar for my dog to listen and I didn't want to send her away to train, I wanted to build that bond with her so we would continue to succeed long after training. That being said we are now two months post training and Nalani does not miss a beat; she listens the first time for all commands and has quickly learned new ones on top of what she already knows! Just to touch on the training aspect there are few things Nalani learned with Jay that I never believed would be possible or even imagined to train her myself. We live in a split level house and before Jay our dog would run and bark at whoever was at the door no matter the person. On our first official training day we were taught how to instruct her to stay at the top of the steps whenever someone rings the door bell and stay there until released. When Jay told us that was our first goal I thought to myself NEVER in a million years will this work! Well, it did! This is just one of the many simple commands that Jay taught us and I never would have thought of myself. It will also be one that will come in handy for a very long time. Another part of her training was to sit whenever told during walks, not to get distracted, and not to pull on the leash. This one took a bit more training but Jay persisted, he kept at it and showed us different techniques to use during our walks to accomplish leash manners. Now I hardly have to even hold the leash and Nalani stays right at my side and never pulls the leash. The last thing I'd like to mention is off leash walking, this was my biggest goal of the entire training, everything else was great but ultimately I wanted to be able to take my dog anywhere and not worry about her running off when not attached to a leash. After Nalani mastered the other training techniques Jay taught us it was time for the off leash training. This actually was learning on my part, I needed to trust my dog and show her confidence to be off leash. It was unbelievable the first time she did it effortlessly. No leash, right at my side, and I had no worry of her running off!! To end this long review and get to the point, Jay is an absolutely amazing trainer! He went above and beyond training Nalani; he met all of my expectations plus more. I have no regrets choosing him as our trainer and plan to use him for any future dog's training. Jay truly cares for the dogs he trains and its obvious the compassion and love he has as a trainer. I would highly suggest him to anyone looking for effective and lasting training.

On September1st while out of town, I received a call from a staff member of Dogtopia located at…read more14885 Persistence Drive in Woodbridge Virginia,(703) 278-2045 informing me that my dog Cindy while playing with another dog, was attacked by a dog that was behind her. This other dog turned around and latched on to my dog Cindy, inflicting bodily harm on Cindy that required them to take her to an emergency room for treatment. After being sedated, Cindy required stitches to her left ear, her throat, chest and insertion of a pen rose drain to the left side of neck. Various bites located on top of her head and body were flushed with an antiseptic solution to prevent infection. Cindy required a second visit to urgent care due to copious drainage from the pen rose drain, incurring additional costs. I have spoken to the manager Susan who was supposed to be either getting back to me, or her boss Steven was supposed to call me back. I have not heard back from either one. Cindy is scheduled for a third visit for follow up and removal of her sutures on September 22, 2025. Despite what it says in a signed contract, Red Barn Dog ops south LLC d/b/a Dogtopia of Woodbridge, is refusing to cover any of the costs associated with this incident, that my dog did not initiate. If you choose to board your pet here be forewarned, they are not reputable, and do not abide by their own contract.

I took my dog to Dogtopia in 2025 a few days a week for socialization. He was 5 at the time and…read moredoesn't interact with other dogs for a long period, but he likes to be around them. He also has a bit of separation anxiety that soon dispels if he is brought into the group. However, the workers never coaxed him into the room with the other dogs away from the door. I could almost never see him on the camera because he was always at the door. When I asked about it, I was told that he was at the door, but they never offered to engage with him to feel comfortable moving into the room where the other dogs were playing. In addition, he started using the bathroom inside my apartment despite being completely potty trained. And he smelled like dog urine. I had to bathe him after every 2nd visit although I could have done it after every visit. The last day he attended, he seemed completely shell-shocked. I don't know what happened, but he behaved in a dazed manner that I have never seen from him. It scared me so I never took him back. My dog is so gentle and sweet that he could have really enjoyed the socialization if the workers had made an attempt to engage with him.
