Mine and my partner's family have ordered from this place several times over the years with really great experiences so naturally when we were putting in our garden we ordered 8 yard of 50/50 soil from them. With 8 yards of soil we were not surprised to find some pieces of trash (that is a lot of dirt and nothing is perfect, I have found trash in bag soil before). But as we continued to go through the pile there was a LOT of trash in it. Rags, baling twine, a sprinkler head, pvc pipe, beer cans, food wrappers, all kinds of plastic bits and pieces, parts of animal feed bags, glass, etc. this soil was dirtier than fill dirt. Obviously because this was going in my vegetable garden I didn't want all the trash in it so I have had to painstakingly try to remove the trash as I come across it (I was moving the soil with 5 gallon buckets and I found trash in about 1 in every 3 buckets). I was very disappointed for the quality after spending over $400 on dirt and delivery and it really solidified that I will go elsewhere in the future.

The owner, Gustavo, is a true gem. He is friendly, knowledgeable, hardworking, and an overall joy to interact with. He greets everyone with a huge smile, and is always happy to answer questions and help. He works seven days a week most weeks, and is truly passionate about what he does. This past weekend, they hosted their 17th Annual Christmas Open House. This event features live music, local wine, hot chocolate and cider, and homemade pastries by Gustavo's wife herself! They transform the gift shop into a winter wonderland, featuring around a dozen decorated Christmas trees among other festive decorations! People are encouraged to bring pastries to share, and they definitely did! There was a huge table with cookies, cakes, pies, and more! They also help collect donations for the local food bank by offering a discount on your purchase if you bring a bag of canned or non-perishables. We attended this event on Friday the 6th, and it was a lovely experience! The vibes were amazing, sipping wine and cider listening to live music by some fire pits. The first time I came here, I was looking for a Stanley bit brace, like my dad had had. I wanted to turn some half barrels into rolling planters. Hardware stores no longer carried Stanley, but a new one was $100 via the Internet. Drew had a good selection of used braces from $2. Then I needed a good quality jigsaw, and got a used Makita for $40. Roughly these tools go for a quarter to a third of new, or about a week's worth of rental. Last time came when I noticed that the street sweeper was avoiding my house. Researching on line revealed that it was my responsibility to prune any limbs within 14 feet of the pavement. A new pole pruner with saw was $90. Back to Drew's. A serviceable pole pruner with saw blade was less than $30. And all I had to do was buy some spray lubricant to let the action work freely. I have been going to this store for several years. For a hardware store in Ben Lomond, they carry…read morequite a few items to do small projects. However, I won't be returning after yet another issue with personnel. For quite some time, I learned that trying to buy paint there is difficult, because the lady in the paint department was very rude and seemingly disliked her job. There are a few employees who are very helpful. Yesterday, I was waiting with a cart to pay, there was one person being helped by the only cashier. I was the only person waiting behind that transaction. As several people came through their strangely laid out checkout area, a cashier came over and she saw me and then said She can help the next person in line. This guy behind me steps ahead of me and put his item on the counter. I said, "really?" Then she acted like she didn't know. The line, and I started getting into somewhat of a verbal altercation. Then the guy acted like he didn't see me there. He finally said, oh well you can go ahead, I told him to just go ahead, that I'm used to this "me first" society. I went to the back of the store and asked if I could check out there. I was told no. So I left the cart with the items that took me a bit of time to shop for, telling him I'll just go to Home Depot. Then while leaving the parking lot, another person from "the line," started say things to me. We had words and then I left. Much of the staff is not very helpful at all, and they are rude, making it an uncomfortable place. Their prices reflect the convenience for trying to support local business.
