Wisteria is a marvelously beautiful place to stroll around. Whether you are shopping in their garden sections (say hello to the doves, or Madison the dog!) or in each specially curated showroom, you will be amazed at their decor and antiques. The employees are knowledgeable and sweet, and we always stop to chat. On one hand, they have impeccable merchandise. On the other hand, I often find it's very expensive. I always try to purchase my items second-hand or thrifted, and always go to rummage sales or antique stores. Just know you won't always get a deal here on antiques. That being said, it's never a wasted trip when we visit Wisteria. I will say their plants aren't too expensive. After we buy a plant or something really small, we sit and listen to the doves softly coo, and absorb some sun on one of their garden benches. It makes me feel so at peace! read more

I've been going to Wisteria for probably 20 years! (Have they been in business that long?) A group of us girlfriends in Los Gatos and Willow Glen used to come over the hill once or twice a year for a shopping trip to Wisteria and then to lunch together to discuss what treasures we'd found and how much fun this get together always was. The women who own and run Wisteria do an excellent job of finding, displaying, and offering various types of decor to fit most any home, yard, garden, and budget. Lovely place to visit. Great for inspiration and ideas. A bit pricey. Wife and I have visited a few times, and she has found some treasures. I use a cane and need to 'park' now and then while she shops. And there were plenty of benches and places to sit. The last time we visited all the seating had been removed or repurposed. Guess they don't want anyone sitting around anymore. If I sit in the car she can't always show me things she wants and discuss her ideas. I'm not too keen on returning for this reason. read more

My uber snotty self should find this sorta shopping experience fun, after all I've lived the south of France dream, and moved it on into a groovier Barcelona hang. Fussy french antiques come with a charm all patina-d to death...so seek and ye'shall find pretty much all of that and the knock off faux french-ness of things gift marty. (Not bad but not much really authentic.) Big period piece furniture lurks like dinosaurs from another era but then again that is the authentic piece of french history. Good taste lives here, but the over stuffed nature means finding authentic takes time. read more

Truly beautiful shop. It is charming and perfectly curated. I was, however, shocked and horrified by the EXTREME markup on the items. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, was well priced or reasonable. I shop at a lot of stores across the country and this one certainly ranks as one of the most over-priced for the QUALITY that I have ever seen. The whole experience here is just lovely. You can wander through the gardens at a leisurely pace, poke around the many rooms inside, and enjoy the wide array of household and garden items. Pricey, but a wonderful place to enjoy window shopping, and get inspiration for your home. It's so much fun because it feels like you get to go into someone's magnificent home, and everything is for sale if you want it! They do a wonderful job stocking unique items. Such a charming place - the garden is so cool, and the way they have organized the whole place you feel like each room is a new discovery zone of all sorts of wonderful things. It's definitely not a low cost store but not so overpriced to make it no fun. They have everything from plants for sale (gorgeous roses) to lawn ornaments and furniture to all sorts of home goods from beach motif to French, to farm and more ..... enjoy my visits every time I come. read more

What a shame! This place used to have such a nice environment despite the snarky mean women that work the front desk. The garden guys were awesome and their lovely personalities and knowledge about the plants made it worth the trip. The garden guys are gone and the place has taken on the appearance of a Russian grocery store. The unpleasant women still work there...so it's not really a good experience any longer. Buyer beware! Wisteria will not back up their plants. I recently purchased a bird cage topiary from Wisteria and it is infested with spider mites!!! The plant is on life support at this point. I spoke to Carol and asked if the owner would please call me back re: this issue. Owner wouldn't even give me the courtesy of a phone call. Just had Carol call back to report that they have strict policy that plants are not returnable. After years of spending tons of money here, they have lost my business FOREVER! read more

I have lived in Monterey for 3 years and since arriving, I have shopped at Wisteria for home decor.I haven't been since last spring but noticed a change in the attitude of the staff. It's a well-merchandised store and some decent finds are there, if you don't care to shop online. It seems as though there are more pedestrian accessories that you can locate online with free shipping. And, I saw more reproduction pieces this past weekend than French originals. Wisteria has long been my 'go to' place for inspiration. As an interior designer, I look to it for ideas, and those one of a kind pieces you can't find anywhere else. As an artist, I go to get that little nudge to put a new canvas on the easel and smell the oil paints once again. Last week was not a disappointment. In fact, I was very pleased to see and learn that they have a new designer rearranging each space ~ it had grown a little predictable. Now the place has been reimagined. The wonderful old French pieces, armoires, bureaus, tremeau, etc., are all still very present. But they are now juxtaposed against a bit of glam - more modern lined pieces with gold accents, and more contemporary textiles. Previously, while I loved perusing the various rooms while listening to French music and the live doves cooing outside, it sometimes felt tired and old - still pretty and very Provincial, but lacking in that 'wow' factor. The new designer, and I don't have his name - sorry, is busy reworking each area and he's doing an exceptional job. And much to my pleasure, he has placed their art, front and center! The gardens are beautiful, but I believe they are slightly lacking from what they were in the early 90's. Hopefully, they will find someone to transform this, as well. Enjoy! read more

Cousin and I spent the day here...so much fun! I found a pair of iron garden urns and a metal French style console (reproduction) I'm using as a bar in the garden and a bunch of small future gift items. Another advantage to shopping here is the wonderful selection of plants. Found beautiful well priced Boston Ferns and giant pots of lavender. Will definitely be back soon. read more
