Turramurra Recreation Centre is the North East local (Council run) Sports and Fitness centre…read more It is a great centre which hosts two courts (Netball and Basketball) with electronic scoreboards, meeting rooms, change rooms a creche, 4 Squash courts and a dance studio. The facilities are quite old but are maintained really well and have very healthy netball and basketball competitions running all through the year. Anyone can get together a boys, girls or mixed team and start to crawl through the ranks. It always works out to about $6 per game per player in a netball game which is quite affordable and makes for a fun social weekly workout. The only thing that can make this place crazy is that some games can be scheduled to play at 10:30 at night, making it impossible to get to sleep for work the next day until after midnight. They run Zumba and I know that there are Weight Watchers meetings held here. These are great facilities which keep really busy with local competition.

Today men equal to those of yore battle for supremacy at MARS and long shall they be remembered in the pages of history. I play Basketball and Mixed Netball at MARS Sporting Complex in Marden. What makes this a good venue? Well firstly it is pretty close to where I live, which shortens the stank that seeps into the car seats. The three wooden floored courts are sprung and there is plenty of space to the sides of all courts, which can be a problem at some venue's (walls leave big bruises). The other thing that I like is the umpires, in particular the head netball umpire who is a champ. I think a place where the umpires take the time to get to know you is one you should keep going back to, as I have been for 15 years! One big negative is that when it is hot outside it is STUPIDLY hot inside! The aircon only encompasses the front canteen and upstairs Gym, and the 5 or 6 fans just don't cut the mustard. As mentioned, other than the three courts there is also a full gym (with classes etc) and an indoor rock climbing wall. The canteen/bar does not serve alcohol (it used to) which is a right bummer! Also keep in mind that parking can be tight on the occasions that the neighbouring soccer club has training as they choose to park in the gym parking rather than their own. P.S. the times listed are office hours, but the social games start as late as 10:30 on some evenings.

I've been playing ball here for years…read more It gets too hot in summer and too cold in winter but these are great excuses to forget the weather and just run around. The gym upstairs, although I've never been a member, is 24 hours and accessible from its own entrance way on the side of the building. Admittedly, sometimes the staff could use a little more training in hospitality/customer service, but it's not really a place you go to get ultra high service. There are plenty of drinks and bites to eat at the kiosk, the guys running the comps always get the schedules up online in time but sometimes they get it a little wrong (they do take over the phone enquiries). If you've got a few mates that wanna chuck the ball round on a weeknight/weekend, and at least one of you can organise you all to show up each week, get in and give Mars a go. It's a sweaty fun time!

If you (like I) hate the gym, then THIS is the place for you…read more My first foray into Point A occurred on a beautiful spring morning, I stumbled (aided by google maps) onto the Gunson street location and found this old school shed completely open. Inside was an array of fun things the likes of which haven't been seen since phys ed in primary school. There was a soft mat all up in this joint! They do all sorts of fun and engaging activities, I gave my hand to parkour, fire twirling (sans fire), a martial art and acrobatics (my favourite). The staff are freaking lovely beautiful people, who instruct with a passion and knowledge that is not only helpful but exciting. I can't wait to go back to try aerial yoga, with ribbons!!! Give it a go.

Located in the eastern parklands west of Wakefield Road, the Sweat Course is a shaded circuit of…read moresix exercise stations: pull ups, log lifts, hurdles, sit ups, bar dips and step ups. A survivor from a bygone era before Yoga Booty Ballet, Jazzercise, Pole Dancing Aerobics, Butt-Sweat Bikram and Swiss Balls became popularised. Forgotten, which is fine, because it's not like a bunch of wood and bars are high maintenance. Actually, it's preferable as you're likely to have the track to yourself. The choice of workouts and the muscly 80s cartoon men depicted on the signage give the Sweat Track old school flavour. It may be the "old black" but working up a sweat is as effective as ever.

It has to be one of the most glamorous places in SA to go to the gym, complete with chandeliers and works of art adorning the walls. The place is massive and the facilities are state of the art - you never need to fight for a space to exercise. The class times are a bit awkward and don't really suit city workers, who I'd assume would be their biggest clients - so I'd recommend checking that out before you join. I'm hopeful that as they grow they will have more classes (especially yoga!) available. The biggest downfall is parking - unfortunately they have no designated parking and the car park across the road closes at 7pm which doesn't help those of us wanting to train after work. Street parking is the way to go but often difficult - unless you are doing a 6am class. Overall, a great gym and can't wait to see how it improves as time goes by!

This is a great gym, go and check it out for yourself. I want all my friends to go!…read more There are 5 levels to this gym, including at wet area (sauna, steam room and spa etc). The staff are friendly, always saying hello and goodbye when you leave the gym. The people who have set this gym up have a keen eye to detail, they are interested in providing an innovative gym experience. I have started with a Personal Trainer recently and it has been one of the best things that I have done. We have been incorporating a few crossfit exercises into my training and he has been able to make the training specific to my strenghth building needs that compliments my other activities. The gym boasts lots of great activities such as pilates, gravity yoga and pole conditioning. There is even a cafe on the ground floor with a wide selection of goodies for gym junkies. And if you have children, there are childcare facilities too. I haven't had a problem with carparking before or after hours either.
