The manager was extremely rude. He was disrespectful to his staff in front of customers when we rented gear. I returned it unused out of disgust and rented from Bob's Snorkel which were much more accommodating!!. I would give zero stars if I could. read more

I live here and walk my dogs every day early at the beach and today (11/14/22) there was broken glass strewn across the walkway right beside the Crew hut. Worrying about my dog's paws and everyone who walks barefoot at the beach, especially children, I went over to the beach shack to see if I could borrow a brush or something to pick up the glass with. I was met with a hostile and rude reply. They refused to let me borrow a brush, or a bucket and spade to pick up the glass, said I couldn't have anything and it "wasn't their problem". Their tone and attitude was rude and downright nasty towards me!! I was shocked as I know some of the staff who work here and they are great people who care about the beach and the community and environment, and are dependably proactive in this type of situation. I picked up the glass by hand and a passing tourist stopped to help out and we hopefully caught every shard. The tourist said it was the end of a dream holiday for someone if they stood on glass as they can't swim with a wound or be on the sandy beach. I took 2 hands full of glass over to deposit in the garbage bin at the shack as it was so close. The 2 unfriendly crew members were rude and nasty again and stated "it wasn't their problem" and shouted "call the hotel if you want" as I walked away. They need a lesson in responsibility and kindness, in fact just learn some manners! They are giving the rest of the brilliant crew a bad name and it is sad for everyone involved. This 1 * is definitely not awarded to the usual crew we know who are fantastic and 5* all the time! read more

All of the staff were very kind and helpful out on the beach. There are different water activities you can do like snorkeling, paddle boarding and kayaking. Ken was very knowledgeable about the water and made sure we felt comfortable and safe! I even saw one of the staff go out to the reef and help someone who had gotten stuck. Overall a great experience, will definitely be back on our next trip out! read more

We arrived earlier in the morning and its a good thing we did it as it became very busy very quickly with limited seating options. The staff was attentive and we appreciated Gabriel helping us get a nice shady spot for our chairs, umbrella, and beach towels are provided. He quickly set up things for us. Thank you to Gabriel! We were grateful for the perfect conditions that Mother Nature provided us so we could spend some time in the water and also so grateful for the beach chairs and a bit of shade. Did you know? There's a small free parking lot closeby for any quick stops here. My friend and I came here to rent two paddle boards. Little did we know that we got a private dolphins show when 100 dolphins (seriously, 100!) showed up. We spent the morning paddle boarding among them. Crew was fantastic. It was my first time. They are super nice (not rude) and they will hold stuff for you. They might even paddle out to take photos to send it to you especially since I didn't have a phone out on the water ;) Prices were very fair. $40 for paddle boarding. I don't swim very well and they will rent out a $7 flotation belt if you're worried. We also rented snorkel gear for $10. The gear was better than our other paid excursions. Really sweet guys here! Friendly, they answer the phones - they nice! Safety first is a big theme here - they really don't rent equipment even if there is any wind (even if the snorkel report says conditions are great). I tipped but not enough - they do so much hauling! I'll do better next time. We enjoyed kayaking in the bay but would have liked to leave it a bit. read more

On Friday, March 17th we encountered ageism with the beach crew. Apparently, an area on the beach was off limits due to a turtle. The method of communicating this to visitors was placing lawn chairs on their sides. One of the young men in charge of renting gear and picking up towels was exceptionally patronizing to my husband and myself. Spoke to us like we were idiots. Maybe a sign with words, Do not pass, may have been helpful? No aloha there. Disappointed. read more

Exedingly rude..... I am not typically an unhappy customer. I am staying at Kapalua Villas for my honeymoon (I recently discovered is not associated with Kapalua Bay Beach Crew), upon arrival I recieve a brochure that says Kapalua Bay Beach is included in my stay. Today I go there and see an unattended row of umbrellas, thinking they are included I grab one, set it up and enjoy sitting with my husband for the next 45-60 minutes. A gentleman approaches saying "It'll be $20 for the umbrella." Us looking clearly confused, he continues "It would be tacky if we had a sign up". My husband says "Let me run to the car to get cash". The gentleman then says "I'll take the umbrella until then" A little bewildered, I then say "So a sign is tacky, but taking an umbrella out from under some one isn't?" He then asks me to move, takes the umbrella and raises his middle finger at me. read more

Excellent service and staff. Rented paddle boards on several days and the guys were awesome. If you're up for the challenge, go on a surf or sup guided session. I had the guys take me to an empty surf / paddle spot and caught way too many waves on a paddle board. It was a blast. A local waterman guide will sit outside the break and call waves for you, bring refreshments and handle everything. Can't ask for more. They have all high end gear (Starboard sup and carbon fiber paddles) without the cheap rental crap that most places have. All top notch. Safe and fun! read more

We have been coming to this beach for years , and have always loved the beach crew; Eli was the best , and up until a few months ago the crew was amazing..They have a new crew now lead by Ricky , and the experience has totally changed . Ricky recently publicly berated and shamed my husband and I for leaving our paid for beach chairs unattended for a short time to go get some food and check on a medical issue. Upon our return ( we left our belongings on the chairs ) Ricky held up a clipboard and pointed his finger at it and told us we were keeping others on a waitlist from using the chairs . When we got to the beach there were plenty of vacant available chairs to rent. I asked Ricky why he told us there was a "wait list" , and he responded that there COULD have been a wait list , and that we COULD have kept others from using the chairs . Mind you this was a very public "take down" in front of lots of beachgoers ( several beachgoers expressed sympathy to us ). His boss was sympathetic and nice , but be forewarned. read more

The guys that work the hut think it's okay to spear fish three to five feet from shore whilst swimming between children, snorkelers, and other beach goers. Whoever manages this "business" better have really good liability insurance because one miss with the spear and hitting a kid in the chest is all it takes: criminal negligence and a major lawsuit. The lay back chill attitude is awesome, but being risky with other people's safety is truly negligent. read more

This place is incredible! Not only is this bay an incredible place to swim, snorkel, paddle board, kayak, lay on the beach, etc., this beach crew makes it all even more worthwhile. They open at about 8am (but are often around before 8 for the early risers). They have great pricing (cheaper than anywhere else we found) and the equipment rentals they have are clean, in great shape, and plentiful. We decided to try snorkeling for the first time and they took the time to explain the process, method, places to go, etc. AND, when I asked about underwater photography, the crew let me take their brand new underwater Canon out on our snorkeling trip! Because of their help (and borrowing their equipment) we were able to have the most amazing snorkeling experience and capture incredible underwater photos. It was by far one of the best experiences of our Maui trip. Not to mention there are quite a few sea turtles and underwater life (octopus, sting ray, tropical fish) we saw while snorkeling. Would love to give them 5 stars but they don't seem to want do their jobs and rent the equipment. Been staying all week at Montage and rented a few times. Asked to rent just before 4 pm having been told they close at 5 pm. They said no. Flat out no. No compromise. They want to put everything away a full hour before they close. This is after we watched them send out two paddle boarders at 355 pm. Whatevs - maybe their manager or supervisor will read this - I get not wanting to rent close to 5 pm but an hour before??? Just back from a week in Maui and just don't have enough good things to say about the Crew! Special shout-out to our guy, Eli, who would setup our lounge chairs and umbrellas before we got there in the morning. This same kind of attention was paid to everyone as the Crew made sure nobody snorkled/paddled too far out on days with large swells. The Crew became part of our experience and I can honestly say it wouldn't have been as magical without them! Already planning our next trip and hoping to see them all again. read more

Very poor behavior by one of beach crew members. He put six chairs with umbrella's in front of an older women who had been sitting on the beach. When others pointed out that this was rude, he said talk to the city or his manager, he had a right to do it. Even one of his customers who was going to use the chairs questioned putting it right in front of someone else. I had watched other Beach Crew members who did not do this. The women sitting on the beach asked if he could keep the back of the chairs down. He said no. When another man sitting on the beach said he should not do this to the women, he put a chair in front of him. He told the man " I get to live here and you have to go home." I thought he might kick sand in his face (muscle guy on the beach attitude). The Beach Crew worker was not from Hawaii, he did not have the island spirit. Bad attitude. read more

Outstanding service by one of the Beach Crew members. He was friendly to customers and those already on the beach as he set up chairs and umbrellas. I was very impressed that he would not set up a chair and umbrella directly in front of people already sitting on the beach. He would work with customers to find a good location at the beach, while not completely blocking those already there. Never got his name, but seemed to be a local. We went on a great guided kayak and snorkel tour last week. We kayaked to a nearby bay and saw a moray eel, sea urchins, an octopus, two turtles, and lots of fish. We even heard whales singing in the distance. Very friendly and capable guide, Brandon. One of our favorite things we did in Maui. read more
