I booked 3 boats dives on Tuesday and 2 boat dives on Wednesday with Ed Robinson's Diving Adventures. I would've booked 2 more boat dives with them on Thursday if I didn't have to hang out with family. Ahhhh... They took me to the coolest dive spots and I love how the dive groups were small because the dives didn't seem crowded at all. Meetup time is 630 am at the small boat ramp at 2800 S. Kihei. You fill out paperwork when you get there then they help you set up gear. If you want Nitrox let the staff know in advance and I think it's $19/tank. You get a lot of freedom diving with Ed Robinson and crew, so long as you dive safely and stay out of deco, and they're very open to site suggestions/requests. I love it! Out of the 5 dives I did with them I liked The Apartments, 85, and Red Hill the best. Transportation to and from the boat ramp and breakfast are not included but snacks, drinks, deli style sandwiches, and towels are. I would definitely recommend Ed Robinson Diving Adventures and prefer them over other dive companies. You will get more attention and be taken to cooler sites with this staff. After being canceled by two other diving places due to boat issues, we were finally able to book 2 Tank Boat Dives with this place! The lady we spoke on the phone was friendly and accommodating. After knowing our cell reception was bad, she took down our information immediately instead of calling us back after she was done with another customer. We had guided dives to Molokini and Haloa. Both places were beautiful with endless visibility. The price was reasonable as well. We paid $168.19 (including gear rental) each. They offered us coffee, drinks, fruits, and muffins as well. If you love dogs, the owner also brought his 3 friendly dogs to the check-in location! Overall, we had a great experience and would recommend this place! read more

Very experienced crew! They treat you like experienced divers. While you're never alone diving, you're giving as much "leash" as you're willing to take on. I love this about these guys! Great dive sites! Better than most other Maui diving companies I've gone diving with. Two areas for improvement: 1) I understand the "no-nonsense" attitude, but the boat feels so crowded, with not enough shade available. Fix: perhaps less people per dive, and perhaps an extended canopy of some kind to provide greater shade coverage. 2) The food provided is quite minimalistic. Given the dive is more expensive than other dive companies, and the "accommodations" are definitely not as luxurious as others, I would hope a bit more could be done with regards to feeding the hungry divers. All in all ... I'm in it for the great dive experience, so my "areas for improvement" definitely wouldn't prevent me from diving with these guys again! Mike read more

Just read M'ia's review....I think she might have been on a Maui Dive Shop boat, because she SURE wasn't describing Ed's. I've been diving Ed's every year since 1988...usually between 10-15 days a year of diving...so I have a reasonably good knowledge of the boats, the captains, and the guides. As someone who's been in the water once or twice, I VERY much appreciate the boats that Ed's use. I also appreciate the way that they break up the divers into two groups...Group A and B. Group A (up to six divers and the guide) drops first, followed by Group B five minutes later. This results in a "same ocean, same day" feeling rather than the "I'm diving with 500 of my closest friends" feeling that you get on certain other Maui-based dive operations. The guides treat you like an adult (until you prove otherwise)...when you're low on air, you do your safety stop and go to the surface for pickup....the rest of the group keeps diving (again, unlike certain other dive operations). While Kim CERTAINLY is on a whole different level than the other guides, they are all very good at what they do, and adapt to the divers incredibly well. The captains know the dive locations like the back of their hand, and put you on the site with pinpoint accuracy. Kim is simply the best guide I've had the pleasure of diving with, period. After 20 years of diving with her, she's still capable of finding cool new things for me to video (and I TRULY don't know how she does it, other than the chance that she's telepathic with fish or something). Not the best dive crew that I have been out with. One dive master on the boat was doing most of the work while the others socialized predominantly with one or two guest. Safety was another issue. I never been out on a dive where the dive masters didn't constantly check in on air and weight requirements. People on the dive were underweighted and impacted their ability to do proper safety stops. The two dives were really nice. But the various skill levels of the divers on the boat weren't taken into account. read more

My wife and I had dove with Ed in 1998 and had a great time. So when we brought our kids to Maui in 2019 we knew which dive company to use. Our captain Joe and diver masters AJ and Dave were awesome. My two 19 year old boys enjoyed the upbeat vibe on the dive boat and were able to see 10 white-tip sharks near the St Andrews wreck. I would recommend for new divers, our one 19 year old was a new diver, and experienced. read more

Went out on a two tank dive on Thursday 7/23. AJ, our dive leaded was outstanding, very competent, and a sweetheart. However, Joe, the boat Captain, was pretty much just to himself, and the on boat's deckhand, don't know his name, was a self-absorbed jerk. Only thing he showed any interest in was his cellphone and his partying photos from the night before. He was a bit condescending, and for a guy in his late 20's, early 30's whose largest accomplishment seems to be working as a deckhand on a dive boat, not quite sure what he has done to be so full of himself. I highly recommend diving with AJ (she also works as a Paramedic on shore). The deckhand needs to be sent packing. read more

Mark my words as long as Ed's is in business (and there is space for me on the boat) I will not go to any other dive operator in South Maui. We have dove with Ed's before and booked 2 dives on our recent 5 day trip. Robin in the office was so great about helping me book things a few weeks ahead of time and she was even more amazing when our trip took a left turn and our diving companion had to cancel at the last minute. On our first day out we had a small group with Joe leading our dives and on our second day out we had a slightly larger group with Justin leading our group. Captain Byrd is always the best and Kim was a great help on deck. The crew at Ed's is always top notch! They setup all of your gear and give great briefings of the dive sites. I really have to commend the crew for trying to make sure that we saw different sites since we were diving multiple days. I really think one of the strengths of Ed's is being able to determine everyone's diving abilities and structuring the sites and dives around that. I also love Ed's because they are willing and totally able to go to some of the sites that other operators will not. I feel like Ed's has a bit more of an adventure feel and pace and that happens to be right up our ally. I really could go on and on about why I (and my dive companions) love Ed's operation. Just know that whenever we get the chance to come back we will most certainly be diving with Ed's! read more

I just finished getting my Open Water Certification with Ed Robinson's Diving Adventures, and I couldn't be happier!! I did my classes and confined water dives at home with an awesome instructor (Atlantis Scuba in Southlake, Texas) and then did an Open Water Referral with Ed Robinson's place in Maui. My instructor in Maui was Charlie Dolfun, and I can't tell you how lucky I was to have him. He was fantastic and made me feel relaxed and confident from beginning to end. I would highly recommend Charlie to anyone looking to Scuba, but especially beginners or those looking to get back into the sport. Charlie has over 40 years of experience and an incredible amount of knowledge that he is happy to share. He has simple methods of helping you remember the things that you need to know and guides you every step of the way. I am looking forward to having my entire family dive with Charlie and Ed Robinson. Recently (June 2018) went diving and had my 11 year old disabled (Spina Bifida) for a discovery dive. The company was so great to work with and made us very comfortable before arriving based on experience with disabled divers. Wow. I'm amazed at the first review. I just got back from Maui over Thanksgiving and I dove with them 3 days, woulda gone 4 and 5 if I had the time. And I had Kim as a dive master and she was really great! As the first reviewer wrote, it was written up in Maui Revealed and got good recommendations. I learned from them from Mike, the amanager at Diver Dan's dive shop in Santa Clara where I did my open water course. Which was excellent. I'm not sure why the weight belt was a problem but she fitted me one, based on the wetsuit and my weight, and it was fine- as a first time diver I could hover just over the coral and had no problems controlling my buoyancy. From the course I took, I was never led to believe that weight belts are somehow obsolete: we spent a lot of time learning how to put them on properly and check them pre-dive, how to release them, and how to put them on again both underwater and at the surface. And we had BCD vests that also had quick-release weights integrated to them. No one else on the dives seemed to complain that we all had weight belts- it seems par the course based on what I was taught. As for safety, I was taught that we check all of our equipment ourselves- making sure the regulator was working, making sure that the secondary regulator was w/in reach. The outfitters basically do everything for you that we had to do in my course- assemble the system, switch out tanks, attach the octopus, lift the whole thing for you to wear. But in the end, of course I checked everything out myself- I wouldn't leave it up to someone else. And anyhow, after your wetsuit, the weight belt is the first thing to go on. Only then do you put on the BCD. So the chances of getting one's hoses tangled up in the weight belt are next to nil. I thought Kim was great- she showed us a lot of stuff, and she was very attentive to me as a new diver- kept seeing if I was OK, etc. I learned from her how and where to look for sea life. It's true that my equipt didn't have a dive computer, but our dives were pretty simple- up to about 95ft on the first tank, then no more than 50 ft on the second. We always had plenty of time to ask the divemaster or skipper details of the dive so we could jot them down into our log books. What I also liked about the outfitter was that they're more interested in just diving to cool spots they know about. A couple I met on the boat had complained about Maui Dive Shop: they were "guaranteed" a dive in Molokini, and once they got out there (they were to meet at the boat dock at 6am but didn't leave till 7:30 am; whereas we were asked to meet at 6:30am and we left by 7:00), they changed their minds, and came back, effectively cancelling any diving for that day. Apparently, if one in the group doesn't want to go out for whatever reason, the entire trip is scrubbed. In contrast, I had the impression that ERDA looks for a good combination of conditions and location, and won't go somewhere just of the sake of saying we went there. They all do go around to each of us and ask us where we want to go or what we want to see. Yet, they have a lot of systems in place- they tell the same spiel about the boat when they set off, they have a set of common procedures they follow on every trip, it seems. Anyhow, I'd highly recommend them and go w/them again. The first review is from over a year ago- apparently they've made a number of changes. Maui Revealed said they have the best food: fresh pineapples, pastries, and salty snacks. You decide. read more

My girlfriend and I recently went on two separate 2 tank dive trips with Ed Robinson's Diving Adventures and had a great experience on both. ERDA caters to certified divers. They're not an outfit you want to contact if you're looking to learn. I completely agree with the second reviewer and disagree with the first. The equipment that I rented from ERDA was satisfactory (BCD, Regulator and Weights)(I have my own mask, snorkel, fins and wetsuit and wouldn't do it any other way). I have yet to encounter a dive outfit that rents high-end equipment, so I was happy enough. As far as the safety of the equipment... it was fine. It is my responsibility to make sure it's assembled correctly and on my body right... That's PADI 101. I think what made ERDA a great experience for me was the passion that their dive masters had for the sport. It really makes a difference when the people actually want to be at work, and truly enjoy what they're doing. They were very receptive to what I wanted to see and went out of their way to make the trip a great experience for us. ERDA as two boats and we went on each of them. They're almost identical. Our first dive was with "Blonde Dave" and our second dive was with Tiffany. They were both great to be around, accommodating, and had a true passion for the sport. Ed is lucky to find such great employees... it is a hard thing to do. Each trip started by going out from Kehei to Molikini. (We dove two entirely different spots on Molikini). The Molikini dives were drift dives at about 85', around the perimeter of the crater. We managed to see white tip reef sharks, a huge baracuda and a pair of eagle rays that were beautiful. After the Molikini dives, the boat headed back toward the Maui coastline to various spots. We dove this random reef off the coast of Makena and the St. Anthony ship wreck. Both dives were great experiences... especially the ship wreck. The crew at ERDA goes out of their way to make things easier on you. As the other reviewer said, they'll help you put on your gear, change your tanks, etc. They provide some light snacks on the boat. As far as my 5 stars go... I truly don't have any complaints about them. They exceeded my expectations. I absolutely will dive with them again in the future. read more

NO NO NO. DO NOT dive with this outfit! Why? Oh, let me list the reasons.... There are much better options on Maui. (read my other review of Prodiver Maui.) The staff seemed really out of it and nonplussed about our dive- really not terribly enthused. Kim, the divemaster, was kind of ticked-off and annoyed at all of us, it seemed: she kept barraging us with questions about how much weight we needed to wear- honestly, it's pretty ridiculous- the amount of weight I need changes on the wetsuit I'm wearing, so it's hard to say. USUALLY, any decent scuba outfit will have a divemaster who can' guesstimate' the weight you need. This lady didn't even seem interested in doing that. She was barking out questions to us and we were almost SCARED to give her the wrong answer. I'm not sure why this company makes us wear weight belts when the BCs are integrated (the weights can go INTO the jacket, in the pockets.) They equipment was outdated, old, and I dare say, unsafe. (Read further. On my second dive, my weight belt actually started FALLING LOOSE as soon as I descended, and I was scrambling to get it back on at 40feet underwater. NOT safe. The Divemaster helped me out, but she kept rolling her eyes at me and you could TELL she was ticked off about this. (HOW was this my fault??) During the dive, she kept clanging on her tank and was clearly annoyed at a fellow couple who was diving with us, who was trailing behind. (Not very professional, I must say, since we are on vacation and just want a relaxing dive!) One more annoying point: we TOLD them where we had dived earlier in the week, and they took us to the SAME PLACES AGAIN. WTF??? The SCARIEST part was that when I finished my dives, the person helping me take off my equipment realised that my secondary regulator (the emergency breathing apparatus should my primary go 'out') was STUCK UNDERNEATH my weight belt. In other words, should my primary have gone out, I would have been freaking SOL. DO NOT dive with this company. The prices are pretty much the same across the board, so there's really no need to go with this company. No dive computer provided, no record of our dive, no nuthin'. This company is mentioned in the 'Maui Revealed' book, but i would give it a big NO!!!! read more

We have been diving with ERDA since 1999, and for the past 7 years have only dove with them. Why? Reason #1 is their professionalism. I NEVER feel nervous diving with them. Everyone at ERDA is very responsible, professional, and safety conscious . Ed and Byrd wouldn't have it any other way. We have dove with them enough times (probably 50-60 dives) that we've had a few squirrelly experiences, none caused by them, but always handled very safely by them (equipment falling off on a dive, a nasty storm that blew up one night on a night dive, an eel bite, etc.). If you are out diving, you are putting your lives in the hands of your dive masters, and I don't care to do this with anyone I don't trust completely. I trust them completely! Reason #2, we always have good dives with them. Some of the other shops seem to have their own "favorite" dive spots, and aren't too concerned with where you have been or what you want to see. Whenever we dive with ERDA, they always take the time to ask the clients where they have been recently, what they want to see, and really try to tailor the dive itinerary to the people diving on that day. Reason #3, the crew is great! Everyone from Ed (the owner, who comes down to the boat dock many mornings to meet and greet the passengers), to Byrd who basically runs the show (and who is not only the best captain on the island but is funny as hell), to the dive masters (we love Kim, but Ricardo, Joe, and Tiffany are all fantastic, and they have lost more great dive masters to other firms that most firms have ever hired ... Mark, John, Dave, Billy, the list goes on and on!). Even the deck hands are professional and courteous. Everyone really seems to enjoy their work, and sincerely wants to make sure you enjoy your dive! Okay, some things that aren't on my list of reasons: the boat ... come on, it's not a Med cruise! Their boats are fine. They aren't fancy, they aren't new, but they are safe, reliable, and they get you where you need to go. The food ... if you want a gourmet meal, stay on shore, there are lots of good restaurants in Maui. The equipment: what serious diver rents dive equipment? If you are diving Maui, do yourself a favor, dive with ERDA (unless you're one of the reviewers below who gave them one star ... you go somewhere else, I'd rather not have people like that on my dive boat ruining my day!). read more

I did a refresher shore dive with Charlie on 2/21/18 and a 2 dive boat outing with Bird, Dave and Jose on 2/24/18. Totally different dive objectives and settings but both excellent. Charlie is a natural, gifted teacher. He was a serious and on task making sure we understood the concepts. And he made the morning dive really fun. Bird and crew were also very knowledgeable, great attention to detail, and engaging. I felt totally safe and very well taken care of. All in all, a fabulous experience. The best dive group on Maui! I have been diving for 22 years and have been with a lot of dive operations, we found Ed 4 years ago and have not used anyone else since. They are professional, great crew and equipment and take care in getting good small groups to great dive sights. This time we went with our daughter who just finished he scuba class in Portland and did her final checkout dives on Maui. They not only handled the dives, with great skill and care (THANK YOU SETH) but had her really loving diving and ready for more. Her first dive in saw a manta, turtles, octopus....by the time she was finished diving I think she saw more than most people ever see at Ulua. Two days later my daughter joined my wife and I to do her first boat dives. Tiffany was our dive master and the crew made sure she was comfortable and well looked after. We had two great dives and saw tons of rare creatures like 2 great frog fish. I couldn't ask for a better team or gear from any one else. Go with Ed and you wont be dissapointed. Oh and they added a new feature you can go to their site and download photos they took on your dive. When you look for a dive operation taking you out somewhere you aren't familiar, you want the crew to be professional, safe, and able to make you feel at ease. When we went out on Christmas Eve with Capt Bill, Will Joe and Dave they did exactly that. They asked what we were hoping to see and catered the dive to our liking. Our rented equipment was new, clean and in good condition. My newly certified sister went out with us and saw so much more than many people do on their first dive. The dive masters took special care of her and pointed out all the things they didn't want her to miss. I really, really recommend this company. read more

I've been diving with Ed and the team for over 20 years and have, occasionally, been on the boat with less experienced divers. Byrd and the team are first class professionals in every way and you won't find a better captain than Byrd. Period. Sites are chosen based on group preferences so there is a likelihood that you'd dive the same spot within a week. Safety is their first and last concern and divers who ignore that are dangerous. That being said, I've never seen Kim annoyed with competent, thoughtful divers. You don't have to be experienced, you just have to listen and follow the plan. The site decisions, though, ultimately are made on prevailing conditions - wind, currents, vis, etc. Byrd and the team are experts and determining those conditions and often contact other boats that are in or near the target destinations to get advance information. After nearly 100 dives with them, I highly recommend ERDA. read more

I've been diving with this outfit for about a decade, so I guess it's past time to review them. For all the people who complain that they don't have digital comps or integrated weights.... When you have many dozens of people using the same gear every day, you want simple and basic. If you need expensive, complex gear to enjoy your dive, bring your own. The divemasters with Ed, by and large, have all been with him for many years, and have seen it all. They are very relaxed, but very knowledgeable and attentive. If you show them that you know what you're doing, they will leave you alone as much as you want on the dive (just don't head off miles away). Whenever I dive Maui, I dive with Ed Robinson. read more

My wife and I did a Thursday dive with Dave and Ricardo. We did two dives in the Molokini crater. These guys really know their stuff! Before our first dive, they introduced us to local marine biology, what to look for during our dive and the hand symbol for "rare." Unfortunately, we didn't see any endemic critters. Maybe next time! We did see a manta ray the minute we began to descend. The dives are amazing (most divers know that molokini is world class). What really made our trip special was the crew that took us out. We got fresh pineapple, coffee cake muffins and juice. Really recommend these guys. They make sure you're safe, know your stuff, and have a good time. read more

We used Ed Robinson's for a night dive on 9/4/09 with Dave Cunningham. We didn't use a boat, we went on a shore dive off of Ulua beach in Wailea. We met him at 6pm, and since this was our first night dive, he wanted to make sure we were comfortable with our gear and with the idea of diving in the dark. He was super friendly, offered recommendations for other dive shops and people to get to know, and generally was a jovial guy. We watched the sun set, and once it got good and dark, we got in the water and spent an hour roaming around the awesome reef. He pointed out cool stuff (giant pufferfish, slipper lobsters, and a squid!) and was very professional all around. The diving company was very accommodating to us. We tried to get on the night dive on the previous night, but since we couldn't make it, they offered to plan this small shore dive just for the two of us. We are new to diving, but not exactly novices, so we felt this company and this dive was a good fit. Since we have no experience with their boat dives, I cannot rate them on that, but our shore dive with Dave was excellent! read more

If you are looking for an amazing snorkel experience; look no further. Prior to booking, I did my research. This was our 2nd snorkel experience, and I was taking 4 teenagers -which can all be pretty particular. Most of my early on communication was via email with Jonny. Regardless of what I read (which were all outstanding reviews), her outstanding customer service, knowledge and follow-up was the deciding factor. When asked her what the company sizzle was her response was "The "sizzle" of this trip is that it's much more intimate and personalized than anything you'll ever get to experience on a boat snorkel trip. For one thing, our groups are small, for another, Suzzy, Ed, and Jeffery are all very well versed in the natural history of the many critters you'll see, along with being very knowledgeable about the reef environment. All of that combined makes for a much more personal experience and a much more impactful experience - you will definitely remember your snorkel trip, what you saw, where you were, and who you were with. As you've read, other people do lead the trip (Ed Robinson, and Jeffery). Of course, Ed is extremely knowledgeable, and Jeffery has been doing this for many years. Of course, though, if you'd like to request Suzzy, she will be more than happy to try to accommodate you. Suzzy did accommodate us, and was our personal tour. You could tell this was not just her JOB, but her passion. Before we got in the water, she took time to review with books and stories, what we could expect to see, etc. Her passion for the water and it's life was infectious. If you get a chance, please take the time to do this adventure. It will be an experience that you will take with you forever. I was a little skeptical at first when we pulled into the parking lot and I saw the silver boat with the blue stripe. It looked like a beat up old pontoon boat. I thought, what have I gotten myself into. Upon closer inspection it was a radon boat built in Hawaii for Hawaiian waters. It was actually very comfortable and very well thought out. Ed saw us off in the morning as we pulled out of Maui launch site. A short trip over to Molokini island. We had a great front crater wall dive, then went to the back wall after the required surface interval. The crew was great and our dive master Dave was awesome. Entertaining and very knowledgeable. We originally booked two days of diving before we arrived in Maui and ended up booking a third day once we had arrived because we enjoyed ourselves so much on the boat! Super friendly outfit, they'll do their best to search out and find the creatures and critters you most want to see, they'll tailor the dives to the competencies of the passengers and they'll split the small group of 12 into an even smaller group of 6 based again upon experience and competency. Its really like a close knit family... the crew have worked here forever and the same customers come back time and time again whenever they're in Maui. Best of all they are tech light friendly... my husband really wanted to dive his rebreather while in Maui to get hours so he can complete his cave certification next year and Ed Robinson was super open to it and never once griped or complained about it while we were on the boat. Nothing was ever too much trouble and the crew was entirely focused on ensuring their passengers had a perfect experience. If your a more experienced diver I highly recommend their Adventure and Adventure-X trips... these trips tend to attract less of the 'vacation only divers' and you'll get to see some of the more amazing (and advanced) dive sites. Don't think I'll dive with any other outfitter whenever I find myself in Maui - First class all the way!! read more

My father and I recently completed 2 dives during the winter. This is a great outfit that my dad has been diving with for years. For me, it was my first time diving with them but I could tell it was a good crew that was intimate with the area. After our two dives, we came upon a whale shark on the backside of Molokini while headed back. The crew was more than happy to cut engine and let us jump in! Very professional, and a blast to dive with! My boyfriend and I had a great experience at Ed Robinson's. He needed to finish his open water certification, so the staff accommodated to our schedule. He was able to finish, and we logged 8 dives together, including a night dive! We loved Ricardo as our dive master, and Bird as our captain! Thank you to all the staff for making diving safe and fun! I will NOT dive with this company again. There are much better options on Maui. I planned a trip to Maui for me and my wife and the highlight of the trip was going to be the Molokini dive. I was so excited when we pulled up to the dive location. It was beautiful. Then we started the dive... The dive supposed to be exploring along a preplanned route at a depth of about 65 feet. Well that did not happen. You see, this company does guided dives and the guide also happened to be the "photographer". He was so consumed with taking random and constant pictures of everything that it completely ruined the dive. We only made it about 30 feet from the boat and only down to about 40 feet deep. There was really awesome stuff to see all around us but most if it was just too far away to really appreciate. We just went over the same little spot about 10 times until it was time to go back up. It was a huge disappointment that the guide was more concerned with taking lots of pics and video for their $40 DVD then actually leading a good dive. On top of that, their equipment is just old if you are renting. Don't expect anything digital. It's all about the cheapest gear that you can buy. All analog. No digital. No integrated weights. And they charge to use this gear where other companies with new digital dive computers and integrated weights include the gear with the dive. Then the crew... Most of the crew was great. There was one crew member would was really passive-aggressive to the customers on the boat and kept making off-color jokes when people were asking him real questions about the dive. I guess he thought he was funny. We didn't think so and neither did the couple next to us. All in all it made for a really disappointing and frustrating dive experience. Been out with this company 2x this week(2-25-18 and 2-28-18) we went to the molukini crater and say white tips, black tips, gray reef sharks, mantas and loads of fish, great visability 100+ and great crews on the boat and dm's highly recommend this company read more

We were cancelled two days in a row by another company and were not going to be able to dive Molokini due to our flight schedule. My wife and I are PADI Open Water and Advanced Open Water certified divers. We dove with Ed Robinson Diving Adventures in Maui and had several issues with their dive plan, overall professionalism, and service: 1. We dove at Molokini Crater, which has a significant current that whips around the end of the crater. We dove with the current to start, and there is a corner at which the divemaster wanted us to stop and wait for sharks. Their suggestion was, if there was a rock, grab that, but if not they suggested to grab onto the coral to stay in place. In fact, they suggested that they usually hold onto the coral since there aren't many rocks there. We felt this was very strange that PADI certified divemasters would be condoning, even supporting the idea of intentionally grabbing onto coral reefs just to stay in one place. Isn't that illegal? We signed a waiver stating we would never touch the coral, why are the divemasters encouraging us to grab and hold onto it? We were able to dig our fingers into the sand to try to stay in place, but the others in the group were on the coral. 2. After this corner section of the dive, their plan required us to swim into the current, which was very strong. This was planned for approximately half the dive and it was how we had to get to our ascent + pickup area. This struck us as a very poor plan - who purposely structures a dive plan into currents, especially at the end of a dive? 3. We also noticed that on several occasions, the divemasters got out of the water before all of the customers were out - very unprofessional behavior!!! We have never dived anywhere where the divemaster is not the last person out of the water - that's just right way to do it. 4. Partly due to the poor dive plan I talked about above, and partly due to rough weather at the surface, we ended up ascending much too quickly from approximately 40 feet. The surf actually popped us right past our safety stop. We had been at 100+ feet on this dive, and we both got pretty bad headaches and my wife began vomiting as well. Even though we didn't feel great about it, we decided to continue, and did two more dives with the company that day. Due to the issues listed above and our concern about possible lingering effects of our uncontrolled ascent, we decided to not dive with them the next day. However, this dive shop has a 48 hour cancellation policy and they refused to refund our money for the second day. This was $375USD for services that we did not use, and we feel cheated by them. We have made no less than five attempts to contact the dive shop to try to resolve this amicably with them. We were told every time that Ed, the owner, would call to talk about it. Even if he wouldn't ultimately refund our money, it would have been the professional thing to do to return our calls, and I would have appreciated the courtesy. However, Ed never called us, even after repeated messages and notes from the people in his office that I was assured were going directly to him. So we are left with the impression that Ed doesn't have the professionalism or decency to speak to his customers who have had a negative experience. These guys are just awful. We ended up going so far as to report them to PADI for their behavior, but PADI refuses to tell us what they did about it or what the results were of their investigation. She was extremely thorough, knowledgeable, and fun to work with. It was challenging, but worth it! We both highly recommend working with this shop - awesome people! Diving with the team at ERDA was the highlight of our time on Maui this year. Dave and Joe, Divemasters at ERDA, along with Captain Byrd, are truly a first class team of professionals. As divemasters ourselves, we've never felt more safe than with this team and enjoyed excellent advanced dives off Molokini and southwest Maui with them. I highly recommend ERDA. read more

I didn't care for my experience with this company. The Captain "byrd" was very inhospitable. The crew however, was nice. The equipment was not good... old and not maintained. The Captain offered sarcastic remarks and was not welcoming at all. read more

This was my first time diving in Maui. A close friend that has been diving for nearly 20 years recommended ERDA. He always dives with them when he comes to Hawaii, so there was no question in my mind that they would professional and that I would feel completely safe. What I didn't expect was how outstanding and friendly eveyone was. Justin and Dave, our dive masters were funny, knowlegeable and totally enthusiastic, which must be hard day in/day out. Or, maybe it's not so hard when you're in that water every day! Byrd and Kim rounded out the experience by taking care of everything on the boat and giving us great direction and advice. My first dive was on a Saturday and when I returned on Monday two of my fellow divers were back, so it felt like diving with old friends. Each dive was better than the one before it and I've got one more night time shore dive with Justin tonight, on the eve of my birthday. I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate. read more
