When I left Chicago, I figured that I'd be forced to start going solely to Petsmart for my fish needs, and was very pleasantly surprised to find Aquarium World. Although I've only bought one living thing from them, their non-living supplies are great. They sell RO water for $.50 a gallon, salt water for $1, and reef salt water for $1.50, which has made moving much easier on my fishy family. They also always give solid, consistent advice, and their employees who specialize in freshwater aren't afraid to say, "Let me ask someone who knows saltwater better." I appreciate that inner-knowledge. And, adorably, sometimes they have axolotls! Which is delightful. I'm just sad that axolotls aren't community tank critters, or I'd totally buy one. read more

I had a pretty disappointing experience at Aquarium World recently. I returned a few cheaper fish I had purchased earlier and opted for store credit so I could upgrade to some different species that cost more. That part seemed straightforward at first, but the process quickly became frustrating. When I used the store credit to buy the new fish, the employees working that day--who appeared to be new--started explaining that if the new fish died, I wouldn't be able to return them. What made this especially frustrating is that this policy was only explained to me after I had already paid for the fish. If that had been clearly stated beforehand, I would have appreciated the chance to reconsider the purchase. The new fish were completely different species from the ones I originally returned, and I actually spent additional money beyond the store credit to buy them, so it felt odd to only hear about this restriction once the transaction was already finished. What made things worse was how long the checkout process took. The employees seemed to struggle with basic math when trying to calculate how much store credit to apply and how much change I was owed after the new purchase. It took several minutes and multiple attempts before they finally figured out the numbers, which made the whole interaction feel unprofessional and awkward. Overall, the experience left me with little confidence in the staff's training and customer service. I understand that new employees need time to learn, but the combination of confusing return explanations, being told important policy details only after paying, and difficulty with simple calculations made the visit frustrating. I hope management invests more in training so future customers don't have to deal with the same issues. read more

Excellent selection of larger varieties of fresh and saltwater fish and plants. It's a dedicated aquarist store...pretty hard to beat!!

Bought two corals and traveled all the way home to Pittsburgh pa and they were great and are still doing well. read more

I only buy fish from Aquarium World. The store is always a fun place to take the kids to help pick out new fish. When I got back into fish keeping two years ago Aquarium world was there to help. I always get great customer services and the employees know fish. This weekend I just picked up the last batch of yellow labs and was asked if this was my first cichlid tank. Of course it's not but the willing ness to help you succeed from each employee is next level. I will be back soon. read more

my dad took me here to buy a beta fish for Christmas last year and the fish is still alive and thriving past this recent Christmas. this fish looked very healthy but the bowl he was in was very small and he looked uncomfortable.he is in a much larger tank and a very happy friend. read more

They don't stick to their policy. I bought a few hill stream loaches 1 lived I took 1 back they replaced it and the same happened the man said it had to be a problem with my tank I did everything the policy said bring in tank water so they could check it that was fine he refused to swap it for another hill stream loach. There is always dead fish half eating ones in the tanks. When I buy anything from this store your to be expected something will go wrong with my tank. I would not recommend this place. read more

I am -so- grateful for the help I received at Aquarium World today. I went in with a vague idea of what I was looking for and came out with three lovely fish. I was surprised by the care and attention that each tank obviously saw. With little to no discoloration within the tanks and an abundance of healthy fish, I saw quality unlike other stores I've been to. Dead fish were quickly removed and made seeing the healthy ones a pleasant experience. The variety and quality of fish food and decor is astounding! I'm also in debt to the young man who really took time to help me feel more confident with growing aquatic plants and establishing a saltwater aquarium. I've been intimidated by these two facets of tank care, but I'm now more reassured that I -can- take the dive sooner than anticipated. I normally visit Pet Supplies Plus for my fish tank supplies, but I hope to establish the habit of shopping at Aquarium World in the future. read more

One of the better if not the best aquarium stores I have been in. Aquarium World has everything you need for fresh or salt water aquariums, including a large selection of HEALTHY fish. This is the place experienced as well as newbie tank owners in Lafayette rely on. If you are new to the hobby and need questions answered, you won't find part-time teenagers who know little more than you giving you wrong advice. Instead, you will find employees who are EXPERIENCED in the hobby and can answer any question you may have. Stay away from those big box chains that sell sickly fish, fish that have been cruelly tattooed with needles to achieve a bright color but die because of it later, or who have untrained sales staff who will tell you that you can put a baby Oscar in a 5 gallon tank! If you are going to get into the hobby, do yourself a favor and do it right, go to Aquarium World! read more

They sell some cheap RO water, which is nice. However, their return policy on live fish is awful for working people. I had 2 healthy fish that became too aggressive after a week. They refused to give me any kind of refund because it was the weekend... Be aware that if the weekends are your only free time that Aquarium World will not be helpful. read more

This store is great. The entire staff really knows their stuff! They carry a variety of fresh water, brackish, and salt water fish as well as reptiles. Their prices are also very comparable to other stores, but you know you are getting solid advice and the fish you purchase are very healthy and well acclimated. I also purchase all my frozen clams, shrimp, and bloodworms from the shop as well. read more
