My son (19 months old) was TERRIFIED of the water, and the teacher (I believe her name was Ganga, or at least that's the name on the lesson) was so patient and supportive in getting him used to the water and having fun in the water. The assistant general manager Mason was also happy to help me corral my son back into the water when he inevitably ran away from the pool (not out of fear, but more of having fun running away from his mom stuck in the pool and desperately calling out his name... he's a jokester and a runner). I do think the lessons are pricey ($168/month for weekly 30 minute sessions means $42 every week), but I don't know what your budget is. I ended up canceling because of the price and the timing with my and my baby's schedule. If I had all the money and time to splurge on my kid, I would definitely continue. "Ugh, I have to disinfect that now! Hrrmmmpph". Yeah, ya do - so what. It's your job? If you don't want kids touching toys, don't run a class for kids. That's 90% of what they do. And management was real good at screwing up our schedule by giving half of our time slot away. Thanks, my kid knows how to half swim now! The instructors came across as unprofessional, a lot of inconsistency, not much structure, and not enough attention on the kids. It often felt like they weren't prepared for the lessons or didn't really know how to manage the class. Because of that, the actual learning just wasn't there. Kids weren't getting clear instruction, corrections, or real progress. It felt more like loosely supervised pool time than an actual swim lesson, which is not great considering the hefty price in exchange for "golden" quality and the expectations they set. I would often see teachers chat with other staff during lessons which really disappointed me as a parent because not only are you not giving the quality of education promised, but you're jeopardizing the safety of my child by looking away. I don't understand why I need to pay a hefty price to feel anxious during their education. Along with the teachers, they swap out and change too often to be consistent. Overall, it didn't feel like a place where children could genuinely develop their skills or learn safely. I wouldn't recommend it based on what I saw. There are definitely better places out there, or even a family trip to a pool would benefit more than a yearlong subscription in my opinion.

Not quite 24hours which is still a bummer but much better than the early close times that forced me to go all the way to Issaquah when I wanted to get a late workout in, not to mention I don't need to worry about what the random hours over the weekends are. I only mostly use the weights area and mainly come in later at night after 9pm. At these hours the gym is only moderately crowded. I don't get every machine immediately but it's not so crowded to the point where you can't absolutely find something else to work on while waiting for the machine you actually want to free up.

This swim school completely fits the bill. My first phone call with Tracey, the owner, gave me a great first impression of the school. She explained the programs they offered, answered all my questions, and helped me choose which classes were a good fit. Since I have two kids, she shuffled some things around in the schedule so that both kids can go on the same night with one lesson after the other. This is very convenient :) Also convenient is that all administrative stuff is available on their website, so I didn't have to fuss with printing out paperwork. On the first day of class, Tracey warmly greeted us at the door, and got us set up with everything we needed (including complimentary swim caps). For my 4-year-old's beginner class (Minnows), there were 4 students and 2 very capable, hands-on instructors. They were both excellent with kids and you can see that the kids are having a lot of fun. To get kids used to the water, they play a game where each kid gets a turn to do an activity for a short burst of time. They work in round robin fashion, and go very quickly, so as to keep it fun and make it less frightening. This method worked really great on my son because within the first couple of lessons, he overcame his fear of swimming. At the end of the class, they bring out toys and inflatables and this is my son's favorite part of the class. My daughter is in a more advanced class where they work on their strokes and swim laps. Again, great instruction, and she loves the class. By the way, the facilities are really nice. They are in the recreation building of a new apartment complex (Avana 522). The pool is a great size, nice and clean. Outside of the pool area there is a lobby with free wifi, sitting area with tv, and vending machines. It's been 3 weeks now. My kids LOVE their swim lessons and it's amazing to see all the progress they've made in such a short amount of time. All in all, we couldn't ask for any better. If I were to grade this school, I would give them a solid A+.

i have been going to this ymca around 1-2 times a week for the past year or so. i think it's…read moreawesome and i've really relied on it. it's definitely not perfect, but it's helped me out in so many ways first of all, they provide financial assistance based on income, and i only have to pay half the amount for a membership, which REALLY helps me out and keeps me here bc gym memberships can get so expensive fr!! there is literally no better deal than here--i'm never leaving i am SO grateful for their kids zone. i wish it were open for more hours of the day, but i understand only being open for the times with the most traffic. as a busy, working single mom, it's really a big help that i can drop off my kiddo at the kids zone and go work out. it gives me the space and time i need to recharge and focus on myself before i go back into mom mode i will say that i feel like the kids zone might be understaffed or at least the staff members who ARE there usually seem exhausted. i feel like there's usually a LOT of kids there, so the workers aren't able to carefully look after each kid, which is understandable, but they frequently text/call me during my workout to say that my son is being too rowdy, and i need to come and either talk to him or just stop my workout and take him out completely. it makes me wonder if it's true that my son just purposely pushed another kid unprompted and needs to leave right away or if something happened that could have just been a teaching moment from the counselors there. i feel like, with so many kids, the staff probably aren't able to really take their time with the kids, which definitely makes sense but it is sort of frustrating to have to suddenly cut my workout short bc a of call from the kids zone. the kids zone is great tho there's a separate area for babies and toddlers with all sorts of toys, and there's a bigger area with bigger fun equipment for the bigger kids. i often see the workers holding the tiniest babies, which would make me feel good as a baby mom (my son is 3 y/o now) i will say that the general atmosphere and the vibe of the people at the ymca is mostly old people, tired and burnt out adults (both members and staff), or hectic families with children. i've been to other gyms that were full of young people who looked like they had a lot of spirit for their bright futures, and there was a lot of positive energy in the air, and this does not feel like that haha. if going off people's energy around you is important to stay motivated to work out, this might not be it for you there is something about the people here... a lot of times, there's someone on the stationery bicycle who's watching a video with the volume way up, or someone's on the stairmaster and talking loudly on their phone, or they're making distracting grunting noises on the weight machines. at one of my other gyms, there were signs on the walls about gym etiquette that i wished were here :( it's fine if you have your headphones in and just ignore everyone tho i love that there are so many different classes and events for kiddos and families either for free with a membership or with a reduced price. it's so much easier registering for different kids programs here than having to hunt them down one by one and drive all over town i have also tried a lot of the fitness classes, and i have to say that literally all of the teachers have just not had a very encouraging attitude. some of them are very get-in-and-get-out, some are very strict and hold you to a high standard, and some have an intimidatingly dark sense of humor. i've had some other fitness instructors in the past for various classes, and i really like the energetic, positive, encouraging, uplifting fitness coaches. here at the ymca, i've done chair yoga, pilates, tai chi, barre, and strength training, and literally all those teachers just did not seem happy doing their jobs. i will say, though, that the kids basketball coaches were awesome. maybe they just save all the excited, positive teachers for the kids programs i also think it's great that there are so many programs for active older adults. there seems to be a good community of older folk here, and that's cool to see mmm i think that's all my thoughts haha
