Horrendous and unprofessional - I'm so blown away I don't even have words. I called to ask a few questions because I am looking for a new accountant. I told the CPA over the phone that I have a DBA and he rudely interrupted me saying I need to have business accounts - which you 100% do not - I worked in banking for over a decade and as a DBA you can run your expenses through a personal credit card. I diligently keep track of all my business expenses, everything is printed and filed. I then wanted to ask him a follow up question and I kid you not in the most pompous, rude way he shouted "I won't answer any questions - consolation is $150". I told him "sir I'm asking questions - mind you I only asked one to get comfortable with you, why would I pay you anything when you are this rude." I wouldn't use this CPA if he was the last CPA in the world. He shouted, I've been a CPA for the last 20 years - yes, but that doesn't make you a good person. Stay away. I can't express to you how grateful I am for Ara's help. I have two businesses and had a very late return. I was receiving all sorts of scary letters from the state. They said I owed them a huge sum! Upon meeting him, you note he's a very affable man. There's nothing shifty about Ara. Nothing that makes you think he might be bending the rules a little too far. First of all the online reservation is a joke, we booked online, received no confirmation after the site announced that "you'll receive a confirmation e-mail", later on we called him to either confirm the appointment or book one. Long story short, after questioning and talking in rude manner, he is telling on the phone that my fee is $400 if you want I'll call you back! Well, this guy on the phone does not worth even a few cents of my unlimited cellphone minutes that we spent talking to him! Like other two negative reviewers commented, he is a total rude asshole. This guy is not just an accountant, he's a superhero. At least, that's how I see him, after he heroically saved me from a scary IRS review that could have cost me upwards of $15K and a slog through the Tax Court. I came to Ara in a state of anxiety after receiving a notice from the IRS that I needed to provide documentation for an exemption I claimed in 2010. I won't get into the whole story here, but let's just say it had the potential to be a very complicated and dicey situation. Ara gave me a FREE one-hour consultation where he absorbed everything I told him and calmly explained my options. He was very personable and helpful, and I could tell that he really knew his stuff. After following his advice and doing some more legwork (and paperwork), I was ready to send my response to the IRS, which would then go to Tax Court. I came back to Ara to have him look everything over before I sent it off to IRS purgatory. He reviewed everything carefully and efficiently in a very friendly manner. Once all the papers were in order, he could have easily sent me on my way. Instead he paused and said, "You don't want to go to Tax Court. Let's see if we can settle this over the phone." Then he picked up the phone and called a special line to the IRS that only tax professionals can use .. and waited on hold for 40 minutes (this is peak tax season). While we waited, we chatted about my 2012 tax return and his family vacations to Hawaii, where I used to live. Finally we got through .. only to find out we had to call another office. Ara was patient and persistent. He got the right person on the phone and then proceeded to explain my situation in a very simple, straightforward and convincing manner. The IRS guy on the other end was like "Sure, we can take care of this today." I could hardly believe it - after five months of this hanging over my head, multiple calls to that same IRS office and being told that I had to send in a lot more documentation than was actually necessary. If you're having an issue with the IRS, I would highly recommend a visit to Ara. Not only is he very friendly, patient, and knowledgeable about every item on your tax return, he also knows how to talk to the IRS.
