Oh my Patrick, you are amazing and so is your amazing locally owned and operated Market. Not only…read moredo you have a wonderful selection of meat, the steak we picked up you cut for us to our desired thickness. So you are looking for a huge steak, or a wicked good deal on chicken breast, or actually those square lunchroom pizzas from your child hood memory, Guess where you go, Patrick's. Yes, crispitos, cheese sticks, Mexican pizza, square pepperoni pizza, you name it, and they have it (unless they are sold out). But don't kid yourself, you really have to come here for the steaks, some of the most tender cut of beef I have ever eaten. All steaks are cut to a 1 inch diameter that is in the meat case, but you can request 2 inch cut or 3 inch cut, whichever your heart desires. And 2 inches of a NY Strip or ribeye with the correct seasoning and grilling method. Amazing! We got to meet Patrick, he was actually the one who asked us if he could help us find anything and shared a little bit about the market. We asked if we could get some steaks cut and he was more than enthusiastic to help us. Our special request and within seconds Patrick's disappears to the back to cut our requested order. Exceptional service, amazing values. They also have a seafood case (we didn't try but almost got some scallops because they look amazing). We will definitely be back,we will drive out of our way to purchase here and get amazing steaks. You are definitely missing out if you don't go here at least once.

Corkshire is the Salty Cod Restaurant's retail fresh meat and seafood market that specializes in…read moredry aged beef from their in-house dry aging room. They take orders of fresh meats and seafoods and can source almost anything fresh: think exotics, thanksgiving turkeys, and in-season seafood. Crown roast of pork is the "fanciest" meat I have ever prepared, and the hubs doesn't eat red meat. That being said, their meat selection is excellent, and the dry aging process is so intriguing to me! Dry aging intensifies flavor and promotes tenderness. The equipment to dry age like Corkshire has is apparently pricy. I was impressed by their price points on nearly everything, beef to seafood! This shop is beyond clean, the staff are friendly and for me, it's just fun to see what's on display in the dry-aging section. I'm excited Corkshire is in our little town and offers exciting options in terms of meats and seafood. Thanks Salty Cod and Corkshire!

I was first drawn to them after calling and finding out they had plate beef ribs to make those "dianasaur ribs" you see on TV. Yep they had them, along with other exotic meats I never thought I'd run into in a small butcher store in northern Alabama. Since then, it's been my go-to store for special event steaks and such where I want something a notch above what we find in the stores. Yes, the pricing is a little higher, but your paying for the quality. Actually it's still a savings compared to what you'd get in a restaurant if you went there for the same steak! I live in Florence and have to travel to get there, but it's worth it. Their service has always been friendly and welcoming each time, so giving them my patronage is also worth it to me to help keep this gem in business!

My Sorority Sister's favorite (and her entire family's favorite) syrup is Golden Eagle syrup. "The…read moreGolden Eagle" theme is "Pride of Alabama," and Star Market is one of the few stores that carries Golden Eagle syrup. Another Sorority Sister and I went to Star yesterday to get Melissa two jars of Golden Eagle. In general, any sauce or unique condiment you want is generally available at Star Market! Hubs and I love "Bishop's 3 'N' 1 Stuff Barbecue Sauce" and it's only available at Star Market. Try Bishop's it's good on any type of meat! We browsed around a little and per usual, their meat department was well stocked and well displayed. Hubs did not want a Terry's pizza this time and I by passed that little department in the back. Star Market carries unique and regional things like delicious pimento cheeses and I think I've seen Chicken Salad Chick for sale in Star, also. Sister and I wine shopped because Star Market typically carried a great selection of inexpensive unoaked white wines (Simply Naked was the label and they make unoaked Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay) that I enjoyed and now they don't appear to carry the Simply Naked brand. We did get a chilled Kim Crawford unoaked Chardonnay which was good! The staff are always friendly and helpful and most importantly chatty as you check out at Star Market. For Terry's Pizza (and Terry's lasagna) either baked at Star or take and bake; a great variety of delicious meats; good wine selection; and unique sauces, condiments, and refrigerated local items, definitely go to Star Super Market. Star is locally owned and operated and has served this region since 1944.
