I have never gave a bad post about any food service place till tonight and I thing everyone needs to know about Pizza Ed. If your eating at Pizza Ed beward our pizza come out cold sent it back than came back only Luke warm. Worst service we have had come here. #PizzaEd. #HARTSELLEAL Full story. We have gone and ate a Pizza Ed in Hartselle and really enjoyed it. Tonight we went to eat and the server was great. When we got our pizza the center of the pizza was so cold. It was as it just came out of the refrigerator. Sent it back to be cooked more. Came out the second time and was only luke warm at best. Waitress told us they where having trouble with their ovens. If it was me I would have been probing the center was a food thermometer to make sure my customers got their food hot like it should have been. Than gave me the ticket to pay at full price for two pizzas that where not ever hot. #PizzaEd has lost our business. read more

After a visit to show my parents the Cook Museum in Decatur, we made the drive over here to try some pizza. I saw an article about it on al.com a while ago and was eager to try it out. Located at the edge of Hartselle's Main Street, parking is limited to mostly street parking so it can be a tiny bit challenging, but we managed well enough. The restaurant is rectangular shaped and sort of "long," but has regular four-tops and booths. It took a minute for anyone to greet us but we were instructed to choose our own seats. Though they weren't super busy, many of the tables needed some attention/tidying. One waitress saw us eyeing a somewhat dirty booth and she offered to wipe it down for us, which we appreciated. Once we were seated the same waitress took care of us; she was attentive and our food came out in a timely manner. We got fried ravioli for an appetizer and then split an Alfredo pizza. I'm told this is one of the few places in Alabama (esp northern Alabama) where you can get more legit deep dish pizza, but they also offer Neapolitan/thinner crusts, which is what we ordered. A few other appetizers, salads, pastas, and sandwiches are also on the menu. Some of the pastas looked pretty good! There was also a very reasonable sort of "you pick two" deal going on for lunch. The fried ravioli came out very quickly. They were super crispy and hot and had the right amount of gooey cheese. I really enjoyed the slightly sweet, slightly salty red dipping sauce; it was understated but flavorful. As someone who usually is very lukewarm on marinara/tomato based pizza sauces, this was a good one and made me interested in trying a more traditional pizza in the future. As it was, our Alfredo pizza, which was delivered following a moderate lag time after our ravioli, was quite tasty. The crust was a good balance of chewy and crispy; the cheese was hot and bubbly; and the chicken topping was almost shaved into very thin pieces that were slightly crispy. I liked this because I think larger chicken pieces on pizza get gummy sometimes. This was a nice change. The Alfredo sauce was rich but not sickeningly so and complemented the cheese on top well. Quite solid pizza at a reasonable price. There's another location in Guntersville if I remember correctly. I'd recommend giving them a try. I'd return to try another pie or maybe be adventurous and try deep dish. read more

Customer Service: I loved the fact that you could seat yourself, after walking a few blocks that was a great thing. Server: Very polite, smiled, and was very helpful. Friday we drove to Hartselle to try Pizza Ed. It was a nice drive from South Huntsville to Highway 36. The restaurant is easy to find. Cross over I-65 and Hwy 36 turns into Main Street. The location is small town feel with shops on both sides of the street and parallel parking in front of store fronts. Pizza Ed is in an old brick building. Walking inside the decor and flooring look to be from the 1960's with the wooden floors probably older than the 1960's. We were greeted by smiling faces and told to seat ourselves. We were promptly given menus and our drink orders taken. Hubs wanted to try their deep dish pizza. We ordered "The Cubby" with Italian sausage, pepperoni, meatballs and bacon. It's their most popular deep dish pizza. Having been to Chicago and tried deep dish pizzas, I was excited to taste Pizza Ed's deep dish. We also ordered Chicago Tavern Thin crust "The Supreme" with plum tomato sauce, shredded mozzarella, pepperoni, sliced Italian sausage, roasted red pepper, green pepper, mushroom, red onion and pecorino romano. We ordered our pizzas, our drinks, and promptly plates, flatware and our drinks arrived. The Supreme came out first. Our waitress asked if we would like ranch or marinara for dipping. We decided to try both. My first bite and all I could think of was the crust was heavenly and the ingredients with the crust were unbelievably fantastic. Both of us were pleasantly happy the pizza tasted sooooo good. About 15 minutes later the deep dish pizza arrived. Our waitress brought it out in a to go box. I was glad she did. We both split a slice and we were full. The Cubby was on point with famous pizzas in Chicago. The crust on the top was crispy, the ingredients inside delicious and the overall first bite of deep dish didn't disappoint. If you are a fan of Lou Malnati's, you will love this pizza! The only difference that I recall is that Lou Malnati's pizza might be a little easier to cut with a fork and knife. I noticed a couple at a table next to us picking up their deep dish by the slice and biting it. The pizza minus 1 slice weighed 7 pounds according to our scales. That was one ginormous pizza!!! Pizza Ed was voted the #1 pizza in Alabama by writers and staff at AL.com. They travel the state regularly trying different food establishments and compiling lists of the best pizza, best cheeseburgers, best BBQ and more. I cannot think of a better pizza place in Alabama. They serve beer and wine. There are several tv's in the restaurant and I bet they have lots of fun on football Saturdays. If you live in Huntsville and are up for a road trip, Pizza Ed serves fantastic pizza. If we didn't live so far away, we would have enjoyed a beer with our pizzas. Worst experience ever. Drove 45 minutes to try Pizza Ed's for the first time. Due to a downtown festival, they told us they only had 1 slice regular specials until 3pm. We walked around for 2 hours in the heat - returned at 3pm. Got informed they did not have the manpower to make a pizza. This was with only 1 other table occupied and other employees sweeping the floor. No pizza is worth this awful customer service. read more

So disappointing. Have been coming here for over a year and service has been on the decline but tonight was horrible. Ordered $80 worth of food to go. Kitchen obviously gave our order to someone else or forgot all together l. After an hour plus wait and watching multiple people who came after us either leave or finish a complete meal before receiving ours the wrong pizza was brought to us and minus our appetizer. When I asked for my correct order no one at the front nor inside the kitchen had any clue when it would be ready nor if they could make it for some reason. I asked for a refund at this point and not even an apology . I watched the young girl frantically try to find a manger and could not. Got there at 3 PM, on a Tuesday. Staff was great, drinks and menus quick. Wife got the muhroom and ham calzone. It tasted better than any calzone we have had anywhere. We have been seeing this place advertised on Facebook and I've been wanting to try it. We made the 2 half hour drive and it was better than expected. The service was great. The interior of the restaurant was clean and very nice. We tried both of Chicago thin and also the deep dish. Pizza Ed is a solid 4.5, excellent dough, quality sauce, and fresh toppings. Left north Jersey 5 years ago and had the luxury of being a pizza snob. Had about 60 pizzerias in a 2 mile radius. I ate pizza weekly, and would rate them all trying to find the perfect slice. Just left VA where I only had 1 place that had really good pizza, and 1 that was good. Everything else was a horror show. Pizza Ed has good pizza, almost Jersey/New York style but better than anything I ever found in VA. I really like the dough, it actually tastes like pizza dough. It's crisp with flavor all it's own. Before I moved south I never understood why anyone would want ranch dressing with pizza. Well ranch is delicious and it makes even horrible pizza taste passable (barely). Good news, you do not need ranch at Pizza Ed. I have my go to special called "The Kitchen" it's pepperoni, jalapenos, and pineapple. What you get is the perfect blend of salty, spicy and sweet. Great local pizzeria. Being a transplant from the East Coast it's hard to find a good local pizza place. We've been wanting to go here after visiting Hartselle's awesome Main Street shops a few times. Today we dropped in and wanted to see what Pizza Ed could do. We started with a chicken Caesar salad which was good quality and fresh. The real excitement kicked in when we got our first pizza, a 12" "Big Cheese" pizza. This is their " cheese lovers pizza " with 4 cheeses mixed together over a ripe tomato sauce and standard crust. My wife and I both love a classic NY style cheese and feel this is the true test of a pizzeria. If a NY cheese comes out of the oven fresh and. Hot looking like "Ninja Turtle pizza" with just the right amount of grease, viscous cheese and sauce then it passes the test. Check NY style pizza- Thumbs up! The menu gives you a heads up that the Chicago style pizza takes 30-40 minutes to cook, but with staggered salad and the Big Cheese as warm ups, the Chicago Pizza was as advertised, delicious. We selected the "White Sox" which was similar to Pizza UNO's "Uno Deluxe" with Italian sausage, onions, mushrooms, tomato and green peppers. This is an epic pizza! It is NOT to be underestimated. This pizza can be eaten in standard method, but recommend using a fork to thin out the toppings and cheese like eating a fine Lasagna. Make sure to bring on the box. This Chicago deep dish fills you up fast with all its buttery crust goodness. Chicago Pizza- Thumbs Up! If you're looking for some of the best pizza in the south, Pizza ED is your place! My family has made the 20 minute trip twice, and we've loved it both times. Eddie greets everyone like they're his best friend when they walk in the door. It's sort of like walking into Cheers! Customers are given a basket of breadsticks with a olive oil and seasoning "dip" to enjoy while looking over the menu. Our first trip we tried the Pasta Alla Vodka, the meat pizza, and the Nutella Calzone. I am a huge fan of a vodka sauce, and I wish this stuff was sold in jars. It is the best out of any I've tried...ever. The pizzas are ooey and gooey with cheese, and the Pizza Ed crust might just be the best part of the pizza. The Nutella calzone is full of Nutella, strawberries, and bananas. It's amazing (as a meal or dessert). Our second trip we should dub the trip alla vodka. My 5 year old ordered her spaghetti alla vodka, the teenager ordered the pasta alla vodka, and I ordered the pizza alla vodka. Do you see a trend here? We would ask for a straw if they sold this stuff in a glass. The pizza alla vodka is my absolute favorite- crispy prosciutto, plump mushrooms, and that cheese makes for a perfect pizza. Our next trip is tomorrow, and I'm not sure what to order. What I do know is that the service will be great, the owners will likely be working the room to make sure everything is on point, and I will leave full and satisfied.
