HONEY CAKE 100/10 feed me this in my weakest times to bring me back to life thanks
    Becki C.

Oh la la so many kinds of baklava Usually desert comes last, but the desert counter deserves to be the first part of this review. The answer to any and all is honey cake. I am sad to live 8 hours from Radford because I have fallen head over heels for this masterpiece. Brunch was an iced americano, shakshouka and chicken over rice. The plates were small and truthfully I was still hungry after my shakshouka but the flavor was 10/10. I've never had it before, but the cafe has convinced me to swipe right when it pops up again in the future. My boyfriend was still hungry after his chicken and rice as well but agreed that it was very delicious. The space is uplifting and the owner is personable and welcoming. He recommended the honey cake to us and man, I'm glad we took his recommendation. What a great place! Radford is one lucky little town.

The Arabica is an absolute gem! We stopped on our way through Radford and instantly fell in love. The atmosphere is gorgeous with Arab motifs that carry through even into the glassware! The walls are filled with beautiful local art for sale and there is abundant comfortable seating. I was very tempted by the delicious pastry cases which had everything I could ever crave: crepes, cakes, cookies, brownies, cannolis, tiramisu, danishes and more. The store also offers both savory and sweet middle eastern options like shakshuka, shawarma, and baklava. The owner, Abdul, greeted us when we walked in, provided top-notch service, and made excellent small talk. We ordered a Turkish coffee (which was perfectly made). Abdul, was deliberate in his preparation and brewed it with skill and accuracy. We also ordered a more American coffee, a toffee latte with oat milk which was impeccably balanced -- sweet and smooth. I almost wish we lived in the area so we could come back every day until we've tried the entire menu.

The food and atmosphere was amazing! Everything we ate from pastry to sandwich was delicious. They had great service and helped us pick something that we would enjoy! The coffee was amazing as well!

Amazing food and the Turkish coffee is fantastic. The staff is really friendly and made the experience awesome. The ambiance is very inviting. Thanks!

Meh Americano and not delicious Gateau cake with vanilla cream - both were bland...

Medium roast Americano - less than average so not impressive enough to give me the cafe-coffee-feel and taste. Tiramisu was ok with heavy cinnamon powder. Gateau cake with vanilla cream was so dry and bland. The ambiance lacks background music in this cafe. The cashier's personality was nice but not so much experienced, it seems like.

Limited hours this week for their soft opening (6/27/22 - 06/30/22) until their grand opening on 07/01/22

I was so excited to hear that a new eatery was coming to this strip of downtown Radford - it is so sorely needed! I stopped in to check them out today and I couldn't have been more impressed - lots of drinks options including coffee, espresso, lattes, macchiatos (everything you'd want out of a coffee shop), plus some specialty options like Turkish coffee and aromatic syrups for rose or lavender lattes. There was also a phenomenal selection of food (think brunch style): breakfast, lunch, and bakery options (the baked goods & pastries they said would rotate daily). It'll be nice to be able to grab an omelet, sweet or savory crepe, or even falafel platter just a few minutes from work at Radford University. I can imagine this becoming a staple student hangout spot with the cozy atmosphere, ample seating, and friendly, welcoming staff here. I tried the zaatar and cheese pizza (it was on a flatbread like base), tiramisu latte, and sampled their delicious baklava as well - I had to keep myself from ordering one of their many dessert options on top of that! I love that items on the menu feature Mediterranean and Middle Eastern flavors but remain accessible to anyone's palate. For example, I would HIGHLY recommend the zaatar and cheese pizza, even (or especially) if you've never tried zaatar seasoning before. Note: This week (6/27/22 - 6/30/22) they'll be open from 10am-6pm, and then after their grand opening on July 1st they'll switch to their regular hours of 7am-6pm (likely later during the spring and fall semester).

Bagel with skim coating of cream cheese.

I could not believe, and was extremely disappointed in the amount of cream cheese on my $4.25 bagel and cream cheese. There was so little that you mostly tasted just the very bready, grocery store type bagel. I may come back, but certainly won't order it again. I feel like I got ripped off. Coffee was good, but not super hot.

Yummy treats and great staff. A better place to grab a cup of coffee than overrated Starbucks.

Other places I've tried in the past were unable or unwilling to do the designs that I asked for so he ended up with a regular old birthday cake but not this year! This year he got exactly what he wanted thanks to Stephanie at Sassy Cakes. I always support small businesses and this is definitely a small business I'll keep in my contacts. She is friendly, creative and had my cake ready in 2 days. Thanks Stephanie! This year I got to give my son the best cake ever and he loved it. Not only was it awesome in appearance, it was moist and delicious as well. I'll never buy a cake anywhere else again!

I have lived in Blacksburg my whole life and ODB has been a go-to bakery for most locals for a while. Serving a variety of pastries, cakes, breads, and offering lunch, brunch, and dinners. They have a lovely variety of options for customers to enjoy. The bakery primarily serves French pastries and caters to French cuisine at their meals. Although they offer more than just French inspired food. In the past, my family and I have enjoyed grabbing their cakes for celebrations and individual pastries from their pastries case. But recently, they have not been up to par and have left us very unsatisfied. The cakes have been dry and do not taste fresh at all. On my latest visit I tried a couple of things, all of which were cold, with dry, crumbly textures. It was evident to me that these pastries were not made day-of and had clearly sat in a fridge for at least one night (if not more). I found this to be extremely disappointing as ODB used to have a reputation of serving FRESH baked goods and pastries. I cannot attest for the hot food they serve during meal times, but the pastries and cakes have gone down hill. Over the winter break, I had their NY cheesecake bar (which I've gotten in the past and it was phenomenal) and it fell so short of what I remembered. It was lacking flavor and the crust at the bottom was dry. This past visit, I tried a Napoleon (also have had this before and really enjoyed it), a specialty cake, a scone, and a couple macarons and macaroons. The Napoleon was so cold and the puff pastry was super stale, it practically fell apart the second I tried to eat it. The specialty individual cake slice was also very cold and the cake wasn't moist at all. Again, indicating it was not fresh or made day-of. The scone was also a disappointment as it was dry and lacked any moisture. I thought the macrons and macaroons were fine though. While most of this was disappointing, the price didn't help either. Nothing was inexpensive and the quality was completely missing. So disappointing to leave this review as I used to enjoy coming here for sweet treats. It's sad to see that ODB is unfortunately not what it used to be. I will note that the service is very friendly and they do their best dealing with customers. Could have been more efficient, but I did go during a busier time. I hope they can turn things around, but until then I do not think I will be retuning soon.
