As I arrived, I was greeted and sat promptly. The staff kindly offered me water, chocolate and a small pound cake. I waited for about 10-15 minutes, Chen came over to do a consultation for me. He suggested butterfly bangs and a deep purple color based on my face shape and skin tone. I appreciated he took the price list over and told me according to my length, what the charge is going to be for coloring and cut, so I won't be blindsided by the charge. They are offering free hair treatment when you go for coloring now, so I had that and also opted for scalp treatment for extra protection. As Chen was applying the treatment on my hair, I was reading a book. He was so thoughtful that he asked me for my glasses, wrapped the legs with plastic wrap, so I can continue reading without getting my glasses dirty. When it's time to wash the dye, Chen gave one of the best massage hair wash. I've never had one with that deep pressure in Canada, honestly I would just go back for a wash and massage. After it's washed, again Chen was so thoughtful to bring me kleenex and q-tips, which none of the stylists in other salons had done that before. Once finished blow drying, Chen started cutting my hair. He is precise, quick and thorough. I was asking for his advice, and I appreciate how he provides honest opinion. He won't just say yes to whatever my idea is, or just for the sake of earning more money for unnecessary services. With hair treatment, coloring and hair cut, everything was done just under 3 hours. I was very happy with the color, cut, and the service throughout. He even provided me a couple shampoo and hair treatment samples before I go. With COVID-19 you must have an appointment to enter the hair salon. No walk-ins. I arrived 5 minutes early and checked in. Mine-san was my hair stylist and she was friendly and professional. I only needed a slight trim for my hair and bangs plus thinning. She washed my hair (such an enjoyable experience) and finished the trim in 45 minutes. The total came to around $60 (incl tips). Other japanese salons charge around similar prices for ladies haircut WITHOUT shampooing, this salon includes shampooing in the price. The salon is a humble place it's not upscale or lux. Although yoga helped making me feel better, I decided to go for a massage. I was trying my luck that day to get accommodated without reservation. I walked in, was greeted by the lovely receptionist and asked how she can help me. I told her I wanted a massage. She checked her computer and luckily I only have to wait 1 hour. This Eccotique branch is conveniently located inside Metrotown mall. I could definitely spend 1 hour window shopping. Five minutes prior to my appointment I was already back at Eccotique. I was lead inside and was asked to sit on a couch and wait for my masseuse. I was offered water or tea while I wait. After five minutes, my masseuse came and introduce herself. My masseuse' name is Paige. She then lead me to a private room. The room is of adequate size. Enough for a massage bed and for the masseuse to move around. I was asked to sit on the bed and was told to close my eyes. Paige then pressed her oil damped thumb on my forehead as she asked me to inhale deeply. She did this 3 times each with different aroma oil. I ended up choosing the Rosemary Mint oil. Paige then stepped out of the room and asked me to undress and go under the sheets face down. While waiting, I noticed the relaxing music playing in the background. I hear the sounds of the ocean and then birds. It was really pleasant to the ears. Before starting the massage, Paige asked if I have any injury or if I have parts of my body that I don't want pressure on. I am typically healthy so went for a full body massage. It was heavenly. I like that Paige would always check if the pressure is acceptable. I'm not a masochist. I don't like hurting myself more so paying the person who hurts me! I like my massage to be just right.
