In June 2022, I booked a Full Highlights + haircut session with the owner, Steve. Suffice to say, I will not be returning. -- Hair Colour & Cut -- I went in with a clear ask - I wanted root touchup with caramel highlights. Had brought in former pictures of me to show exactly what I wanted. I was expecting to leave as a brunette with highlights. Steve then bleached my entire head blonde (?!!??!!!). It came out splotchy with banding and we needed to cut off several inches (from below shoulder to above shoulder short bob) in order to salvage the colour. I voiced my concerns over the colour result not at all matching what I asked for. A few low lights were added in - but I was still a weird greenish blonde overall vs. the expected brunette. I was then told that I should come back after 2 weeks for him to fix it. IMO, 2 weeks is unacceptable for such a large screw-up. My hair is completely fried from all of the bleach - I've never experienced damage like this before. It doesn't feel like hair anymore. -- Attitude -- As a female customer, Steve made several demeaning comments about women and his party-heavy lifestyle. I felt extremely uncomfortable / borderline harassed. read more

Steve did an amazing mushroom brown color on my hair! I love it! It gets even better over time as you wash it. Blends really nicely into my roots (I asked for that) so I won't need to worry when my hair grows out. Honestly, this color is very hard to capture in photos! You have to see it in person! read more

Steve Ju gave me a terrible haircut here two weeks ago. I was a walk-in and asked Steve to shorten my pony tail a bit. I was very specific about my style and repeated my requests a few times. I figured that saying, "I don't want to loose the pony tail" and "I tie up my hair 365 days a year and I don't want that to change" and "when I tie my hair, I don't want any hair from the back falling out" would do the trick. Despite that, Steve decided to chop off nearly my entire pony tail. So I'm not sure what to thing of this place? I realized he had screwed up when I got home and called him to rant. He said he was sorry and has given me a partial refund for the haircut and some of the products I bought from him, but I still don't get how someone whose profession is to listen to the customer and understand their needs can end up so far off track? Sure he said he feels terrible and I got some of my money back, but I've still had to wear a hat these past few weeks and will need to walk around with a half mullet until my hair grows back over the next few months. I will cross post this review on other sites to ensure that others are aware, that this place is hit and miss. Giving me part of my money back isn't enough to cover this screw up. I don't feel that this Steve actually listens to his customers. read more

I booked a hair colour change session with Steve, which he left promptly after I drove all the way from Squamish to Downtown Vancouver for this. He dumped the work on someone else who had no proper knowledge on how to bleach/dye my hair. Which resulted in torturous pain. I later was feeling my head as I got home and felt clumps, I thought at first it was just cluttered hair. But it was chemical burns and blisters that I had received from malpractice. Not only did I have to pay for this shit service, but I also got my scalp ruined. Steve said himself that I could've sued them, and offered me a free colour touch-up because he's a "nice guy". Never in my life have I experienced such negligence, unprofessionalism, and terrible service. Terrible. read more

NO MATTER WHAT, DON'T GO TO JUJU Last week, I asked for my hair to be lighter. However Steve decided that he would first bleach, then dye my hair even darker than it was before the appointment. When I asked why it was the opposite of what I wanted, he was evasive, and insisted that it'll wash out lighter with shampooing. Well, 10 shampoos later, it's still darker than how my hair was before coming to this salon. This makes no sense. If you wanted to dye someone's hair darker, you shouldn't have bleached it first - this damages the hair for no reason! In addition, he made the highlights super streaky even though I told him I didn't like a high contrast, streaky look. Perhaps he deliberately dyed my hair dark to cover up this mistake, but there's no way to find out since he won't speak to me honestly. So obviously I wanted to go back for a corrective session. When I showed up to my second appointment, Steve wanted to start on my hair ASAP, without giving me even 60s to explain to him what I wanted fixed, and said rather abruptly that "we can discuss exactly what you want when I start putting highlights in your head." (Isn't not listening to your customers what caused this mistake in the first place?) Reacting to my concerns, Steve told me that he has a "full day" ahead of him and he just "doesn't have time" for this even though this appointment was made the previous week. He also reacted with sarcasm...ugh. I just can't believe the treatment I received. I have never had such a bad experience at a hair salon. But I couldn't have known that from the comments, because apparently juju hair salon makes unhappy customers sign NDAs in exchange for their money back. They had an NDA ready on hand so I can only imagine how much they screw up. I refused to sign it and forfeited my money so that I can warn others. Don't believe the good reviews. The bad ones were never published. read more

I was in dire need of a haircut to cut of all my dead ends and get my angled bob back so I came to Juju Hair Lounge. My stylist Steve paid attention to detail and understood exactly what I was looking for. The Aveda hair colors are very rich and vibrant, so I chose a red/deep violet color knowing that it will fade into a lighter red which I really like. The prices are super reasonable and the salon is funky cool and kept clean. They also tote gender neutral pricing - so there is no men or women's separate pricing! Their wall of product is also pretty impressive I must say. All in all a great experience and I walked out feeling freshly fly, what what! read more

I am so thrilled with my hair that I needed to come brag about Veronica from Juju. On a whim, I booked an appointment with her and am I ever glad that I did! My hair went from drab, and in very serious need of a pick me up, to (in my humble opinion) stunning and receiving more compliments than ever! Don't have enough good things to say! I went in with difficult hair to do (previously permed) and I wanted to give some color to my hair but I didn't even know if it was even possible. Needless to say Krystal blew me away!!! Went from nearly black hair to somee really beautiful brown/gold dimensional hair!!! I highly recommend the salon and Erin. I got an appointment the same day, I was 30 minutes late with purple hair and still greeted with a warm smile. I asked for a new color that included silver. Against the odds, Erin made it happen. I walked out with pink orchid roots and a beautiful silver gray throughout. The salon is new and very relaxed. There is even a small dog named Doug who cuddled on my lap for a while. Very therapeutic. I will bring my pup next time. They use excellent products; Aveda and AG stand out in my memory. Excellent salon overall. Manager is very knowledgeable and really nice. My cut and colour were done by Rebel and she was great. I love the colour melt! As a natural redhead, I find it hard to get my hair really bright and done to the level of intensity I want and she made it amazing! I have gotten so many compliments. I like the open style of the salon and you can tell the staff are happy to work there. The little dog named Doug was super cute too. He sat on my lap while I was there. I will definitely be back! After trying out numerous fancy salons in Vancouver in the quest of finding someone who can get the perfect shade of blonde while also being decent at cutting, I was at the end of my rope. It has been years since I left a salon feeling less than impressed but Erin blew my mind;) after showing her a few pictures, I just sat back and let her do her magic. 3 hours later I was leaving with the perfect blonde highlights, the haircut was on point too ;) the lady at the front desk was super friendly and the salon has a chill vibe, no condescending vibes like many salons in Yaletown . I cannot praise the customer service and expertise of the people that work at Juju enough. I have gone in to get my hair coloured three times (silver ombre colour melt, silver-blue, then lavender) by Rebel, and the amount of care she puts into the work she does is absolutely impressive! If and when they didn't feel they did their best job, they would fix it up free of charge - I have not had this kind of experience (surprisingly) in many other hair salons around Vancouver. I have not walked out of the salon once feeling less than satisfied with the results. Pricing is extremely reasonable for the hair jobs I want (asian black hair to silver) and there is an adorable pup, Doug, who keeps clients company throughout. Leah and Steve, along with all the other hair stylists, are some of the nicest, friendliest people. I have always had a wonderful time getting my hair done at Juju. I was in last Friday to bring my natural brown up a notch with a balayage treatment Alissa was so fun to work with and gave me exactly what I asked for! I felt super comfortable with the staff and was able to ask Alissa to tweak something at the end of the colouring. This beautiful hair lounge just isn't for the ladies! I made an appointment with Steve here a couple of days ago and was greeted by their friendly staff and cute little doggie, Dougie. Steve is a super personable and funny guy and really makes the whole process enjoyable - don't forget to ask him about his great karaoke skills :) The appointment was in a good amount of time, for a reasonable price and, most importantly of all, my lady likes my haircut (that's what really matters, right fellas?)!
