Worst customer service! In late April, 2026, my husband and…read moreI took a 10-day trip to Europe to celebrate our 20th anniversary. While in Galway, we stopped into Claddagh Jewelers. I found a lovely Claddagh ring that was a more delicate style than is traditional, but it was in yellow gold, not white gold, which is what I usually wear. No worries - I was told they could custom make one for me in white gold and mail it. After checking for proper size, I ordered the ring, paid for it, including shipping, and returned home and waited. The ring arrived May 22, and I was so excited, only to open the box and find they sent the same ring - in yellow gold - that I had tried on! The receipt clearly states, "9k white gold Claddagh ring". I emailed the shop right away, get detailed instructions for returning the ring, including how to handle customs paperwork. After 3 trips to 2 different post offices (no one seemed to know how to handle the customs form), and at a cost of over $70, I was finally able to return it. And then I waited. On August 3, I reached out to the shop inquiring as to the status, and they tell me they did not receive the ring. I checked the shipping QR code and it appeared that the ring was being returned to me! Sure enough, I received the same ring back. Apparently, the ring was sitting in Customs in Ireland from June 23 to August 1. Per customs documents, the package cleared customs, so it seems Claddagh Jewellers dropped the ball yet again. I reached out to the shop, and they wanted me to return the ring; stating that they'd provide a pre-paid label (why didn't they do that when I was returning the wrong ring, which was completely their mistake?). So basically, they want me to return the ring, trusting that after they screwed up twice, this time they'll get it right. If I do that, they will have my money and the ring I purchased and I will be left with nothing except a very bad taste in my mouth over the whole ordeal, and no shred of hope that I will get the proper ring that I ordered. There are many purveyors of Claddagh rings in Galway; I wish that I had gone to Thomas Dillon.

Make sure you drive past the Connemara Mountains on the way back, stop by the bridge from the Quiet Man, and pop into Peacocke's for a nice tea and scone break- well worth a visit!

We then went to Lazlo Jewellers just across the street where they had a smaller size and the price was significantly cheaper. But best of all was the service of Margo who insisted it be made smaller so it wouldn't accidently fall off her little finger. Aideen was lovely and said an exchange would be no problem. We sent the ring via USPS on Aug 24, 2024 and after MANY, MANY emails, phone calls, and twice speaking to Aideen, still no ring. Its now April 2025. To say I'm disappointed and upset by this situation is an understatement. We work so hard for our money and to have 450.00 just taken form us is just sick. I will never understand why people are so devious and calculated and like screwing over good people. She happens to also work at a shop that sells the necklace and told my friend and I where we can get one. She even called the store for us and let us know there was only one in stock in sliver, hers that I liked was in gold. We walked over to the shop and ended up spending more time in there than we thought! Such beautiful jewelry! I almost changed my mind to a different necklace that said "Success" on it, but ended up going back to my original compass necklace which is what brought us there. My friend and I tried on various different pieces and really we could've spent all of our money here! Needless to say about 400 euro later between the two of us, we left. And she said that she would ship the compass necklace to me since I wanted gold and it wasn't at the store at the time. How fantastic! I was so happy that I could get what I wanted and I'll be eagerly awaiting it in the mail. It's important that I mention this is really a local flavor shop as everything inside is made by Ireland artisans. It's great to get authentic things while traveling rather than items that aren't made from the local area. And that it also supports those locals by spending money on their items. The doggie there is funny, kind of a ornery old bat but still sweet, she'd bark if she heard kids outside. You'd think it's fine as long as they weren't in the store but nope, keep it quiet kids!
