Arbor introduced me not to the end of my life, but the next chapters in it. I've met new interesting people who have become friends. I share meals, stories, movies, theater and time with them. As one ages you begin to lose your contemporaries, I found them here. I no longer worry about the upkeep of my house or paying utility bills. Cooking and cleaning and decorating for the holidays and getting the trash out are now Arbor Terrace's job. There is a big snowstorm coming? Who cares? I'll be fine. I am in my 60s, so I always say "I'm early to the Early Bird'. My time is now spent planning trips, going to classes and enjoying my life. Every staff member does more than their job description requires. One feels safe here. I live independently for sure but there is someone here should I fall, get sick or need someone to talk with. Bloodwork, podiatrist, dermatologist and GP will come to me. I'm not worried about making doctors appointments and if I to make one, Arbor will drive me. My family told me to make decisions about my future while I was still the one making those decisions. It was awesome advice and one I share with anyone reading this review.

When it came time for the paperwork there was another text exchange asking about the 2 year guarantee because my parents would fall short of it. She text me "Just be transparent on the financial form, that way we can plan for when they start to apply" That Friday the director started getting involved asking questions. Only to wind up denying them despite what I was told. Director Melissa Hingher told me she was going to talk to someone else at corporate and get back to me. 1 week later hadn't heard from anyone. I escalated it to their corporate office when Kenneth Segarnick emailed me back saying he received my email that was sent to the CEO Brenda Bacon. We scheduled a phone call and he backed them 100% didn't care what was in writing. Stated he wasn't a party to the conversation, but I have it in writing. Bottom line be careful with this place, they will tell you what you want to hear but won't back it up, they are liars simply put. Makes me wonder if they do this with admissions, what would they do when it came to care.

My husband was a resident at the facility for 34 days--had 3 trips to the ER at HMH Jersey Shore…read moreUniversity Medical Center. The first for a laceration to his forehead when he fell outside 3 days after arriving; the second for the removal of one of the sutures which none of the staff nurses were able to remove (perhaps since they had been left in too long); and the third of which resulted in a diagnosis of aspiration pneumonia, after he complained of discomfort in his chest. At that time, I called for a nurse who took his temperature and blood pressure, said both were normal, and asked me what I wanted to do. In view of the fact that he had both dementia and advanced Parkinson's Disease, his claim of "discomfort" could have been a heart attack. I was then asked if I wanted to drive him to the hospital, at which point I told her to call an ambulance. After a 2-1/2 week stay at Jersey Shore and subsequent admission to a skilled nursing facility, sadly he passed in December.The care he received at Artis was somewhere between nil and non-existent. Events of consequence included my finding another resident sleeping in his bed and on another occasion using the bathroom in his room during dinner; my receipt of a phone call from a nurse at 6:30pm advising that his physician ordered a higher dosage of one of his meds and asking whether she should send it out or if I wanted to have it filled by the VA. Upon his admission, I explained that he obtained about 99% of his meds through the VA at no cost, and they needed a minimum of 2 weeks to fill and ship. When I asked how much he had left, she told me she had just given him the last pill. Another incident involved my arriving for a visit on a Sunday afternoon to be greeted by a nurse who told me she was so happy to see me. Apparently, she had a "pop up" notification in his chart that his DBS had to be charged and told me she had no idea what a DBS was, never mind how to charge it. She had been given information as to where the charger was by the Director of Health and Wellness, but only had one of the two pieces of equipment needed. When she went to the nurse's office, she returned with the missing piece, which she found behind the printer! This is equipment worth thousands of dollars. On my phone I have a video of his being put to bed in a sweatshirt he had been wearing all day, a clean pull-up but no pajama pants. I could go on and on about the other mind-blowing experiences I encountered, but hopefully you get the picture When these events were reported to the "Management," including the Executive Director, they were very dismissive and didn't think there was anything wrong. Suffice it to say, that I wouldn't allow my worst enemy even near this facility. Despite the lovely decor, the level of care rates an F+++.

There has never been a time that I have gone to Artis where the community was not spotless. Prior to living at Artis, my mother had lived at Brandywine of Shrewsbury. Sometimes, when she lived in Brandywine, the hallways would smell like feces or urine. This has never happened in the past seven months that she has lived at Artis. The facilities are incredibly well-maintained and kept very clean. The facilities are also bright and cheery, not dim and dismal like other facilities I had toured. The whole outdoor area is fenced in as well and they have a beautiful patio. My mom enjoys going outside with her friends. The staff is incredible. They constantly go above and beyond for my mom. I frequently visit and have gotten to know them all. The staff is very hands-on, and always make sure that my mom is bathed and they even do her hair for her! They always let me know if she has run out of something, or needs something. I am frequently updated and kept in the loop about her care, which is nice. My mom has put on some weight since she arrived at Artis which is evidence of the fact that she is well fed. I am astonished at some of the other reviews that are less than stellar on here but judging from that person's review history, they don't seem to be satisfied with anything. I understand that it can be tough to have a loved one in a memory care facility, and no facility is going to 100% live up to what you wish you could do at home. However, the money I spend is well worth it to see that my mom is content and well cared for. The staff at Artis consistently goes above and beyond to ensure that my mom is happy, clean, and safe. I cannot ask for, or expect, any more than that.

The entire staff was just amazing - so caring and kind and made my father feel like they knew him for years. Maria Carnevale, Director of Admissions, was especially wonderful and went out of her way to work with us no matter what obstacles came up. She treated us like family and made the place truly feel like home. Many of the staff have been there for 10, 15, 20 years or more and that speaks volumes.
