My mom moved in a couple of weeks ago, and while she has had a difficult time adjusting, because of the kindness of the folks there and the superior qualities of the program, I believe she will eventually find happiness again. The food is excellent and plentiful, and the staff couldn't be nicer or more engaging. The programs are entertaining, which I say because mom has participated in most of them even though she has been sad about leaving her home. The security is great; they strike the perfect balance between safety and free, independent living. Making this change has been one of the hardest things my family has ever been through. We are lucky that we have found the people at Brandywine, from the women in management to the concierge to the dining hall staff, the chauffeur, the nurses, the care managers, every person on the staff, and the wonderful residents. I have high hopes that mom's next chapter will be filled with activity and good fellowship. For that I am grateful.

I am thankful everyday for the staff, (Raul gets 100 stars!), and how they helped my mother get through her toughest times. I couldn't be more appreciative for everything they do and did for my mother. You were literally life savers!

Treated our love one like absolute shit, no way for any time of human to be treated. Would take hours to feed them, when we delivered food like soup for example they took over 6 HOURS to give it to them. Would consistently steal items that we purchased and wouldn't say a thing. People who treat elderly or anyone like they are not human deserve hell. For the amount you spend here a month it's absolutely SICK how they treat the people here.

Despite our close proximity to several fine dining restaurants, art museums, and specialty shops, our residents don't need to leave the community to experience all the features the area has to offer. We host weekly entertainment, visits from the local preschool, daily happy hour, art classes, and in-house sidewalk sales with local vendors. In the warmer months, our residents can often be found lounging in our backyard on the patio or in the gazebo. We even host BBQ's for family and friends during the summer. We aim to provide you with peace of mind that your loved one is safe under the care of a 24-hour wellness team, as well as give them the opportunity to maintain independence in a loving, home-like environment.

My husband was a resident at the facility for 34 days--had 3 trips to the ER at HMH Jersey Shore…read moreUniversity Medical Center. The first for a laceration to his forehead when he fell outside 3 days after arriving; the second for the removal of one of the sutures which none of the staff nurses were able to remove (perhaps since they had been left in too long); and the third of which resulted in a diagnosis of aspiration pneumonia, after he complained of discomfort in his chest. At that time, I called for a nurse who took his temperature and blood pressure, said both were normal, and asked me what I wanted to do. In view of the fact that he had both dementia and advanced Parkinson's Disease, his claim of "discomfort" could have been a heart attack. I was then asked if I wanted to drive him to the hospital, at which point I told her to call an ambulance. After a 2-1/2 week stay at Jersey Shore and subsequent admission to a skilled nursing facility, sadly he passed in December. The care he received at Artis was somewhere between nil and non-existent. Events of consequence included my finding another resident sleeping in his bed and on another occasion using the bathroom in his room during dinner; my receipt of a phone call from a nurse at 6:30pm advising that his physician ordered a higher dosage of one of his meds and asking whether she should send it out or if I wanted to have it filled by the VA. Upon his admission, I explained that he obtained about 99% of his meds through the VA at no cost, and they needed a minimum of 2 weeks to fill and ship. When I asked how much he had left, she told me she had just given him the last pill. Another incident involved my arriving for a visit on a Sunday afternoon to be greeted by a nurse who told me she was so happy to see me. Apparently, she had a "pop up" notification in his chart that his DBS had to be charged and told me she had no idea what a DBS was, never mind how to charge it. She had been given information as to where the charger was by the Director of Health and Wellness, but only had one of the two pieces of equipment needed. When she went to the nurse's office, she returned with the missing piece, which she found behind the printer! This is equipment worth thousands of dollars. On my phone I have a video of his being put to bed in a sweatshirt he had been wearing all day, a clean pull-up but no pajama pants. I could go on and on about the other mind-blowing experiences I encountered, but hopefully you get the picture When these events were reported to the "Management," including the Executive Director, they were very dismissive and didn't think there was anything wrong. Suffice it to say, that I wouldn't allow my worst enemy even near this facility. Despite the lovely decor, the level of care rates an F+++.

There has never been a time that I have gone to Artis where the community was not spotless. Prior to living at Artis, my mother had lived at Brandywine of Shrewsbury. Sometimes, when she lived in Brandywine, the hallways would smell like feces or urine. This has never happened in the past seven months that she has lived at Artis. The facilities are incredibly well-maintained and kept very clean. The facilities are also bright and cheery, not dim and dismal like other facilities I had toured. The whole outdoor area is fenced in as well and they have a beautiful patio. My mom enjoys going outside with her friends. The staff is incredible. They constantly go above and beyond for my mom. I frequently visit and have gotten to know them all. The staff is very hands-on, and always make sure that my mom is bathed and they even do her hair for her! They always let me know if she has run out of something, or needs something. I am frequently updated and kept in the loop about her care, which is nice. My mom has put on some weight since she arrived at Artis which is evidence of the fact that she is well fed. I am astonished at some of the other reviews that are less than stellar on here but judging from that person's review history, they don't seem to be satisfied with anything. I understand that it can be tough to have a loved one in a memory care facility, and no facility is going to 100% live up to what you wish you could do at home. However, the money I spend is well worth it to see that my mom is content and well cared for. The staff at Artis consistently goes above and beyond to ensure that my mom is happy, clean, and safe. I cannot ask for, or expect, any more than that.
