It got to the point where multiple family members had to stay at night to sleep in shifts. He is constantly up and down and it has become to difficult for the family to manage. Crisis care was called in to assist with the transition. Most of the nurses were extremely helpful and understanding. That was until Sara showed up to "evaluate" the need to be here. Sara showed up and did not even introduce herself to the family. She sat in her car for, I don't know how long. As my step father would move from room to room she would stay in a separate room and assisted very little with anything. She had minimum involvement with anything besides her phone and computer. She advised the decision was being made to cancel their care because his symptoms were manageable. The nurse who was here the previous 12 hours could only show it being managed for 1/4 of the time she was here. Sara informed us that doctor Donnard (not sure if the spelling is correct) was making the call. When asked to speak to the doctor she said the best she could do was try to have them call us. When asked for the doctors boss Sara replied she does not know. This has been a horrendous experience on top of the years spent going through this. The company has advised they will be sending another nurse. Hopefully this one has more tact and professionalism than Sara. Will update review based on visit. *Update* The nurse sent after has been amazing. She was attentive and responsive to the needs of my step-father. It appears the issue was with the individual nurse and not the company.

They were there and gave us everything we needed even when we didn't know what we needed. The respectful care that was shown to my family members before and after they passed was above and beyond. The employees and volunteers treated us like family or old friends. They were looking out for our needs, offering food, drink, extra chairs when people visited, and a rollaway bed when we couldn't bring ourselves to leave. Fairhope is a blessing to our community

My mother entered hospital with a thoracic spine compression fx, and mild UTI . She had no significant medical history , lived independently (NO terminal diagnosis) We had just gone shopping and out to lunch, days prior. My mother was given Haldol an antipsychotic drug which along with the unpleasant hospital experience, created known delirium, in the fragile and elderly. The POA ( anxious to receive his inheritance) moved her to hospice where she was promptly rendered unconscious (medical coma) with the administering of Morphine and sedatives. She went from talking animatedly with plans of returning home, to unresponsive within an hour, never to regain consciousness, and within 2 days was experiencing labored breathing, drowning in her own secretions. My mothers DNR order signed years ago, never intended to include death for profit and convenience.

Foul play was played in the end . He wasn't even dying to until he went into the kobacker house. He died and not in any comfort as they promised he suffered greatly. Support where? Not one person has called or tried to reach out to the family. I am going to fight for justice. This place can not keep getting away with this. This is very unfair to him and the family. I'm really sorry he had to go through such misery and I'm sorry I had to watch. I do not know how these people sleep at night knowing one day karma will come and it will be their family suffering.please if you read this do not send your family here. They don't do anything they promise to do. Your family will suffer greatly and trust me it's not fair and it's not fun to watch . Had to give a rating but really they don't deserve any but a negative rating they need to add negative ratings as well .

Let me assure you what a BLESSING this inpatient hospice house is for Columbus. As someone who travels along the East coast providing hospice care for multiple hospitals/hospice, OhioHealth provides top-notch care! These patients/families are not only made comfortable in a beautiful environment, but they are also provided compassion. Based on some of the reviews, some folks simply do not understand that if a patient is placed in a hospice house--they are dying and hospice appropriate. Most of these patients are experiencing symptoms that were too difficult to manage at home or they are here briefly to give the families 5 days of respite. When/how long the patient lives is between the patient and the universe/God. If clinicians could cure the patient, they would. The majority of these patients have reached the end of what aggressive treatments and medicines can cure/fix--to do more would only prolong suffering. Comfort care becomes the priority! Our job is to make sure they are comfortable and provide education for families. As physicians and nurses, we have medications to assist the patient as they near end of life. Social Workers provide resources. Chaplains provide spiritual support. It's a multifaceted approach to put the patient first. Again, I really do hope Columbus realizes what a rare and special gift Kobacker is to the community--many cities are not so fortunate to have inpatient hospice facilities! Blessings!
