We watched a spectacular sunset here earlier tonight, and we were treated to an unparalleled sky show for almost 2 hours. Some of the sand on this beach is quite soft and a bit deep. There are beautiful streams of water crisscrossing the sand in various places. These streams cross the stretches of sand perpendicular to the ocean, and they lead in to the ocean. Our shoes and socks got soaked multiple times crossing these streams on our walks along this beach, but it was worth it! There are several logs to sit on. Very clean beach. We saw no litter whatsoever. A few Surfers and Frisbee-throwers were hanging out here tonight, as well as a few people with dogs (the dogs seemed to be having a blast here!), and a couple of families with small children. We got some gorgeous photos! Will post the photos here to this review in a week or two.

The sand is fine and great for digging with the kiddos, building sandcastles or just walking barefoot. It can get pretty crowded but the water is decent and it has nice views. I can't in good conscience give it more than three starts though; The flying carpenter ants are quite a nuisance and you will have to deal with dozens if you plan on staying more than an hour. I liked that they allow bonfires at first, but unfortunately as they have very few restrictions, you will find that people are burning all evening and all night and the smell of smoke overpowers everything. There were people burning in large pits they dug in the sand and teens running around with sticks lit on fire all night. Just being in proximity filled our clothes and gear and car with a thick smoke smell. In the morning it was difficult even to breathe in the fresh air from the beach with the smoldering fires and thick smoke smell. If you love bonfires, this is definitely the beach for you though and you would probably rate it more of a 4 or 5 star beach. If you go to the beach for the fresh, clean air, I would only recommend a short visit here during the day.

See the choo-choo train come by you can get tickets to ride the train. Lots of vendors- table display and food vendors too. The town is friendly. Shop local and notice brewery and many eateries too. Public restrooms are clean and plenty. Beautiful sandy beach. Great day to be out and just walk along the beach get your feet wet. Picture perfect day for a picnic. Tillamook Creamery is not too far away. Will be back again.

It was a huge plus for us! Very quiet and peaceful for a walk after dinner. You can drive on this beach, just make sure you have an SUV or 4WD as the high ruts in the soft sand may cause you to get stuck. Entrance is located at the 10th Street access ramp. They also allow bonfires on this beach! Such a fun way to hang out and watch the sunset. We didn't see any restrooms where we walked on the beach, so plan accordingly. Overall a wonderful first visit here. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend.

The park has a fairly large parking lot, picnic areas, restrooms, educational material, bus stop, and access to the beach. Even-though it may take you an extra 15 minutes to walk to Haystack Rock from here , you wont have to deal with all the tourist crowds. Remember ! It's our little secret! As I sit here writing this review over looking the vast Pacific Ocean in Newport , I can see Yaquina Head Lighthouse far in the distance to my right and it makes me realize how blessed I really am. A true gem in Rockaway Beach…read more This easily accessible stroll though the wetlands is a pleasant break from the beach or roadtrip along 101. Limited parking and services, but an excellently maintained elevated boardwalk that instantly puts you at ease. You are surrounded by greenery, birdsong, and the trickle of a creek as you make your way to the giant old growth cedar tree. It is a (mostly flat) trail (~ 1 mile) and I shared the path with strollers, pets (on leashes), and several folks in wheelchairs, or with mobility aids. It is a nice way to beat the heat and coastal winds since it is quite sheltered. While I only saw one picnic table at the two trail endpoints, there are benches throughout. Truly a magical place.

We went there early on a Saturday and didn't have trouble finding parking, and we also used in the restroom facilities, which I do NOT recommend (bad awful stench). It does provide beach access, (which is what we were there for), for both pedestrians and cars, so it was incredibly disappointing and unpleasant having to deal with bumper to bumper traffic while walking along the beach. The beach itself offers gorgeous views of the ocean, seaside mountains, and rock formations along the water.

Pros: *relatively quiet, mannerly camp guests. *attractive campground and camp sites *easily available facilities + water, dump, garbage, etc *showers are free and hot water is running *plenty of walking and cycling paths *all kinds of camping from backpackers to horses to yurts Cons: *electricity in the yurts is a touch wonky *bathrooms don't necessarily seem clean as much as they seem "rinsed off" periodically; yet relatively free of unpleasantness *women's bathroom stalls ridiculously tiny Set between Seaside and Tillamook, it's a great base from which to set off exploring. Yurts could not be called "luxurious" yet they are cozy and have all the basics met. A few yurts are pet friendly.

Saddle Mountain Five Stars for the Adventure…read more Five stars for Saddle Mountain! If you're leaving Portland and heading toward Seaside on Highway 26, just before you get there, you'll turn off onto a nice little curvy road that takes you toward the trailhead. And right from the parking lot, Saddle Mountain starts messing with your mind. You look up and see this little mountain that seems pretty close. You can see one bump, but the actual big bump the saddle part of the mountain is hiding behind the trees. It's almost ominous. You think, Oh, that's not too bad. Then you start hiking and realize the mountain has other plans. The trail zigzags along the side of the mountain, taking you way farther than it looks from the parking lot. By the time you even make it to that first rocky section, you've already put in some serious work. Then you reach the saddle and that part is no joke. You've climbed all that way only to go back down this sketchy little track along the edge, between rocks that seem to hang over an abyss. Mentally, it throws you for a loop. There are sections where the trail feels like a cliffhanger almost like you're walking on a two-foot-wide path with nowhere to go if you lose your footing. Some people may say it's an easy hike, but I think a lot of Saddle Mountain is mental. Knowing how high you are, dealing with loose gravel, steep sections, and those little metal railings definitely adds a fear factor. I've slipped before and usually don't think much of it, but up there, it only takes one slip where you don't catch yourself. You're not walking around thinking you're imminently going to die, but you definitely realize this mountain deserves respect. And then comes the payoff. Once you cross the saddle, the second part is basically straight uphill. You can't always tell how steep it is going up, but coming back down? Your body knows. You're sliding, your feet are working, and your body feels like it wants to take you for a roll downhill. But man, is it beautiful. From the top, you get these sweeping, commanding views in every direction. You can see Seaside, Gearhart, Fort Stevens, Warrenton, and across the Columbia Bar. You can pick out Astoria and the iconic Astoria-Megler Bridge stretching toward Longview, along with Tongue Point. Then you start panning to the right and there's Big Daddy, Mount Rainier, standing out in the distance. Keep looking and the Cascades start popping up: Mount St. Helens, Mount Adams, and more. As you're getting ready to leave, Mount Hood is lurking way off in the distance, with Mount Jefferson just below it. Looking back across the valleys, ridges, clouds, and all the surrounding mountains, it's an incredibly unique perspective. I highly recommend doing Saddle Mountain on a clear day. The views are absolutely worth it. What a workout. Every inch of pain and suffering was well worth it. I even managed a little trip and fall on the way down. Didn't really get hurt just shook my ego a little bit! I couldn't have asked for a better day. And to finish it off, I headed back to the parking lot and enjoyed a Buffalo Mac, some hot cocoa, and a caramel macchiato coffee sitting next to the cooler while sitting outside in some chairs. What a beautiful day. Five stars. Sweeping views. Serious workout. A little adventure, a little fear, and a whole lot of reward. Saddle Mountain definitely deserves the respect and the trip.

GORGEOUS! I must…read morekindly admit, this has got to be one of my favorite hike in Oregon. We went for a little weekend gettaway to hike Saddle Mountain, started the hike at about 9:00am and was finished at about 11:30am. It is one of those hike that is not too easy, and not too hard... just the right amount of panting to call it a work out, and not too easy where you're craving for more! The hardest part of the hike would probably be the last segment of it as you're entering the viewpoint, it is all incline but you HAVE to get to the top... totally worth it.
