Part of the Oregon State Parks system,…read moreTolovana Beach State Park is open dawn to dusk -no overnight parking or camping- with free parking (cars & bikes), clean bathrooms, easy beach access for most people but those with mobility issues may have a more difficult time. There are nice picnic tables sprinkled throughout the parking lot and a kids playground on the north side of the lot. The Tolovana beach is a gorgeous place to fly a kite, take a walk and look for seashells but the water is a tad too cold for swimming imho, but you can catch a breathtaking sunset almost any time of the year. To the north is Haystack rock on Cannon beach, a towering 235 foot basalt sea stack that is home to many tidepool creatures and nesting seabirds, like the Tufted Puffin. Be aware that dogs are allowed off-leash on the beach if well-behaved. And if you're hungry, Mo's Seafood is right next-door with equally great views in the diningroom. What more could you ask for?

I'd never been there until last month, but have long wanted to go; when I was growing up we really only visited the central coast. Cannon is a more... I guess upscale beach locale is the best way to put it. Some of the towns along the coast can feel run down, cheap, or inundated with souvenir shops or silly attractions. In Cannon Beach, the attraction is the beach and Haystack Rock, really. The shopping is more upscale and often higher quality (not to mention more expensive!) thank you'll find in some of the other coastal cities. There's some pretty good shopping here, including toy stores, clothing stores, art galleries, sweet shops. They have a theatre company here, which I thought was really cool and wished we'd be around to go to one of the shows. It's near Seaside, my favorite coast town. And the library is right along the main drag. I'll be really happy to visit again. One thing I love about the Oregon Coast is how biodiverse it is. This area is right along the coast range, so when we were almost at Cannon Beach--like a mile or two from downtown--we saw a fairly large herd of about 13 elk grazing along the roadside. Then a mile away you'll be at Haystack Rock ooh-ing and ahh-ing over the starfish and anemones. I look forward to a visit to Cannon Beach where I can wander more leisurely (the babe was asleep in the car with grandma whilst I visited a few shops), and also walk out to Haystack with my little one to check out the tide pools.

There was no outdoor space to enjoy a beer or meal with our dog. The hotel did not allow us to leave the dog alone, so we were stuck with no options. We have never experienced such a dog unfriendly city before.

Great park with a little bit of everything…read more We saw the sign and decided to check it out. First impression: lovely, quiet grounds that appear well-maintained. The park has a lot to offer: a beautiful lake and surrounding trees, picnic shelter, play area, docks, trails, birds & other animal viewing, large flat parking areas (one near each end of the lake), and flush toilets. We took the short, loop trail that starts near the parking lot...part a rolling path within the trees and part within mowed grasses along the lake. There's also an interpretive trail we didn't get to check out that starts near the beautiful, historic log home. Beautiful and peaceful spot to spend an afternoon for sure.

We only did the Ecola Point viewpoint which has some short trails from the parking lot. You can see the lighthouse a little bit from some of the views, but probably not as well as grub the lighthouse view trail. Still amazing views tho down into Cannon Beach, haystack rock, etc. If you're going to visit a lot of state parks, I recommend getting the state park pass. Worth the price!

Go on hikes,look for rocks shells,surf, get lost in nature, just sit in the grass and watch the ocean. Here is what you can do at Ecola State Park: Hiking & Walking: Explore trails ranging from easy strolls to challenging hikes through Sitka spruce forests. The Clatsop Loop Trail follows the path of1806 explorers, while the Oregon Coast Trail offers longer, scenic treks. Indian Beach: A popular, secluded cove for surfing, sunbathing, and tide-pooling to see sea stars and anemones. Viewpoints: Take in spectacular vistas from Ecola Point, including views of the Tillamook Rock Lighthouse ("Terrible Tilly") and distant Haystack Rock. Wildlife Viewing: The park is known for herds of elk grazing in the meadows, as well as sightings of bald eagles and migrating gray whales. We went there early on a Saturday and didn't have trouble finding parking, and we also used in the restroom facilities, which I do NOT recommend (bad awful stench). It does provide beach access, (which is what we were there for), for both pedestrians and cars, so it was incredibly disappointing and unpleasant having to deal with bumper to bumper traffic while walking along the beach. The beach itself offers gorgeous views of the ocean, seaside mountains, and rock formations along the water.

Looks like maybe some people who live in the nearby apartments may have some "permanent" crab pots that they leave out day after day... Not that we would know by pulling one up to see if they had any ;) I would love to try this place out at the start of crab season as we were getting quite a few crabs just way small ones. My cousin said this is by the sewer outlet too, so don't eat the crab butter is my suggestion if you were to eat any from here, not that I am a fan of crab butter anyways. But otherwise nutrients am I right? Haha
