A very large selection of comics and graphic novels. They have manga as well as variant covers, posters, giant comics, and some stickers too. Staff was very helpful in suggesting new stuff after hearing some past comics that I have bought. They had Warhammer stuff as well, but I am not sure much about it. Much larger retail space with shelves and display cases full of comic books, graphic novels, minis, collectible figures, gaming sets, T-shirts, cards, and other ephemera. Friendly, knowledgeable staff too! Plenty of available parking! Where else can I find Star Wars gear: Millennium Falcon bottle opener, R2D2 teapot, and a Darth Vader/Stormtrooper salt and pepper set? Scott and Kevin run a great comic book shop in Ballard. They are really cool people that will bend over backwards to help you find what you are looking for. What really separates this comic shop from a lot of others is their subscription service. Most places charge a non-refundable fee to start a subscription with a minimum number of regular monthly titles per month which does not include limited series. At Arcane, there isn't a start-up fee, you can start your subscription with one title, order limited series and your comics come bagged and boarded at no extra charge! Plus you get a percentage discount up to 20% depending on the number of titles you subscribe to! Then as a subscription customer you get a discount of 10% on back issue comics and everything else in the store (t-shirts, graphic novels, DVDs, action figures, etc...)! The only stipulation is that you pick up your books every month. You simply cannot beat that deal. Great shop! The staff is knowledgeable and fun to chat with. They don't just agree with you to get a sale, if you ask about a certain series they'll tell you in their opinion the truth. Love the transparency. The website could use some work BUT, it's extremely convenient if you keep a box with them. You can add or remove subscriptions, order through their site as well as check out what's coming out each week. This is the farthest shop around my immediate area but my first stop every Wednesday. It is more than just a comic book shop, they also have D&D events, and I'm not sure if they do Magic the Gathering. Don't quote me on that, I'll check next time. Big let down since it has such good reviews. I feel like there needs to be a secret room that I missed. It was just a comic book store and nothing special. The frontage is bad and i walked by it thinking the faded comic posters were for a liquor store. The selection was good but not amazing. I had troubles finding anything new or interesting to make me go out of my way to get here. I guess i found there manga and omnibus books lacking. Don't get me wrong it's a great place to go if this was your closest store. The staff were friendly and knew where the book you wanted was, so ask them for help. The place is kid friendly to you want your child to pick up a comic. However, I am positive a guy was smoking weed in the backroom that could smell it long after he finished and so could the two 10 year olds by the door with their dad. read more

Arcane Comics is the place to go to if you're looking for a supportive staff with knowledge of comics, games and more! This group really knows their stuff, will research what they don't and want you to leave happy. They are inclusive, have a great subscription box service and are generally very kind. It's been fun to watch the store evolve over the years to include the gaming space in the back (not currently available due to Covid) to host monthly gaming and show off new games. This is hands down without a doubt my favorite Comic book shop in the city. I find myself hopping around a plethora of different shops in my quest for geeky glory. But since I started running LiftedGeek.com, I've found that keeping up with my geek game needed to to leveled up a little bit. Whenever I'm in Ballard and in need of a superhero fix, I pop by Arcane. The selection is wide and they are such great guys here. They go out of their way to get you the books you need and from what I understand, their subscription service is pretty awesome. The staff knows their business and after talking about what you've enjoyed reading previously they can make solid recommendations for other titles that you'd like. I have never been steered wrong by a recommendation by the staff there. The subscription service is easily one of the best that I've seen and their stock is diverse and well-organized. Wow, these guys pretty much get awesome reviews! Good for them- I'm sure they probably provide great service to most people. But man, if you are some old dude with a paper bag full of comics you have a few questions about, then you are clearly a time waster. Look out! You will get the cold shoulder, totally looked down upon, and condascended to. What I got was "Check ebay". Thanks, dude, that's helpful. Gosh, I never heard of this ebay thing (sarcasm). I have never felt more of a "Get the hell out of my store and stop wasting my time" vibe in well, as long as I can remember. Sure, I did wander in with a bag full of comics, but only because I was specifcally told to by some dude name Scott that I'd talked to on the phone! The dude working this day could not have been he same guy. Anyway, I don't know what I expected. Hell, I would still have this stuff sitting in storage had I not spoken to some guy there on the phone purely out of curiosity. Was not looking to have anything "priced" or anything but maybe have an interesting conversation, and maybe support a Ballard business that is clearly well established and highly regarded. But I did not even get the chance to state that given the attitude. It was a nice sunny day, but man, this old clueless dude felt a big time chill that afternoon. Most recently, I rolled up in here (or so I'm told) after I had a minor procedure in the hospital. I was hella drugged up and only remember sitting on the curb outside, "...taking in some 'rays." According to my wife, I was in the store for over an hour. All I know is I woke up in my bed with a stack of comics about six inches high. I couldn't click 5 stars fast enough. Ballard is fast becoming my one-stop shop for geeky sundries. For years I've been a regular at a local trading card and board game shop, and what compliments this better than an amazing comic shop? I first walked into Arcane Comics over a year ago (summer, 2012) to pick up some trade paperbacks of TWD, having never really been in a comic store before. Scott may have sensed this, as he was incredibly accommodating for me. He spent a good 10 minutes with me talking about various comics and stories that I enjoy to get a feel for my taste, and after hearing about my predilection for Final Fantasy and Y: the Last Man, suggested I pick up a new title that was generating a bunch of buzz called 'Saga'. Little did I know how addicted I would be for picking up the next issue. Arcane Comics has an excellent online subscription service that makes it incredibly easy to add new titles to your box, with various options for pickup, or delivery if you prefer. With the only requirement being to stop by the store once a month, it's very convenient for someone like me who lives in Renton. Pretty much the only negative I can think of with AC is a couple issues that came up with special orders. Both times this happened, they were very helpful in resolving the issue to prevent me from being overcharged. Work with them, and you won't go wrong. One thing I really want to mention, their trade paperback collection is insane. I have yet to see one as complete as theirs covering entire walls. They even had the TPB of Serenity from several years ago, the first time I'd seen it in a store. One of my favorite parts of their store is their "Intro TPB" wall, where they have some of their favorite volume 1's of all time. These recommended reads are based on their taste and experience, which after speaking with them both is vast. While there's legions of other reasons to come here, do you really need any more? The shop has gotten a lot nicer since they opened the store into the other part of the building they rent. They've greatly expanded their selection of children's titles, which is really great. Yeah, this place rocks. I will admit that when I first started coming, I didn't get the warm fuzzies from Bret. But hey, comic book shop owners are just not gonna act like used car salesmen. When I started coming regularly and asking for titles that they were selling out of, they turned me on to their awesome subscription service and now treat me like one of the family. I would have never started reading comics again if it hadn't been for Arcane. The thing that I enjoy about independent book and music stores is that you get real people's opinions of what is good taste. My favorite part about Arcane is the staff favorites section. Over time I have learned which employee likes what, and who has taste similar to my own. Amazon can try to emulate this, but nothing can replace the ability to have a one on one conversation about comics. I have learned to trust the opinions of the employees there, and time and time again they have introduced me to books that I probably never would have picked up on my own. The BEST place for comics in Seattle! I have a subscription there for my favorite books and when the times got tough they still treated me as if I'm a valued customer. They are knowledgeable, friendly and approachable. I see kids in there all the time which tells you they're a real comic shop, not some collector dungeon. They helped me find my grove very quickly when I decided to go back to reading graphic novels. Be aware though that they do push sales and it's evident if you watch them sell to another customer. Great lil' comic book shop, with most excellent owners and employees. I haven't been in a year or so simply because I've had to make some economic choices. Before that, however, I was a regular for many, many yers. they have an insane variety of books, and are always willing to discuss anything comic related. They take your ideas seriously, and can recommend books based on previous titles you've enjoyed. They are more than willing to help you to expand your boundaries in regards to the choice of art, style and story, and won't hesitate to steer you away fro what they might consider crap, even if it means losing a sale. This comic book store is freaking awesome. They stock so many books I worry sometimes they might be overstocked! When I stopped in here it was a lazy sunday morning about 11am. The fellow manning the store was great and showed me around. He gave me a free long-box and convinced me to buy two new series I wasn't even considering, but that I am very happy with. If any other store runs dry on your favorite comic book, these guys will most likely have it. They keep an amazing stock of back issues too (just ask, since they're in the back storage room.
