Do we have a zero? The worker was here for 8 to 10 minutes and I was charged over a hundred dollars for their "minimum hour." They could have a "minimum half hour." They charged me over 100.00 for a 34.00 thermostat AND had the audacity to DOUBLE the credit card fee. DON'T USE THEM. Completely immoral rip off company. I do not mind a 25% mark up, but 150%? On October 22ed 2018 I noticed a small elevation on two of our Laminate floor boards and contacted Archie Johnston Pluming and Heating Ltd to come out an inspect our hot water tank as the surrounding are of the tank was damp. Johnathan their employee stated that the tank was due to be replaced and in fact " we were lucky" because we caught the tank in time and avoided a disatour with the possibility of the tank leaking and destroying our floors. On October 22ed 2018 they installed a new tank. They attached it to the existing Therm-x-troll which is a heat and pressure release tank. On the morning of January 11 2019 I woke up and I noticed that all our laminate floors in our hallway from the back door to the front of the house were bubbling/ swelling. On Thur Jan 11 2019 I called our Realestate agent Corey Douglas from Remax, I asked him if hecould recomend an inspector to see where or why this was happening. Corey recommended Blair Chaisson form BCH inspections We called him and he came out to inspect / assess the damage. Blair used a pin-less moisture meter and tracked the water coming from the new tank/valve that Archies installed. We opened the closet where the new tank had been installed to find the plastic budket they left to catch any water, over flowing with water and the sourrounding are soaking wet. Blair informed us that all the damaged boards must be replaced as mould will grow under the damp / damaged boards resulting in adverse health issues. Archies sent out Johnathan again to inspect the same day. Johnathan apologized for the damage of our floors and confessed that it was either the tank or the replacement relief valve on the tank. Johnathan stated that he didn't have the part with him but could call a coworker in the neighbourhood who had the part in his van, rather than Johnathan having to drive back to the warehouse. His coworker, Jamie, arrived and he and Johnathan went to a corner and whispered for some time before asking to see where the main water came into the house. Jamie proceeded to tell us that water pressure in the house was not regulated properly and that a pressure release valve should be replaced at the water main coming into the house. Johnathan had seen where the water main entered the house on a previous visit and never mentioned the old valve needing replacement at that time. There was/is a pressure release tank already above the tank Archies installed when they replaced the tank, this was confusing but we are not plumbers. We agreed and moved forward because of the fear they worked up in us. They lead us to believe that the main pressure release valve was a very present danger I contacted the company to discuss our damaged floors, and was informed that the boss was not available. After sending emails the boss finally returned my calll stating that they will not fix our floors and I was hung up on. We contacted Blair again to confirm that our pressure release valve could be the issue and he informed us that we did not need to replace the house PRV and was up-sold this unnecessarily to shirk their responsibility. We now have an ant infestation where the damp laminate floors are and have to have exterminator come to our house. We called V.I. Pet Doctor to have them come out to inspect They informed us that due to the water damage, the ants are nesting under the damaged floors. We have to move out and board our pets while they spray, this is another cost insured by their negligence. We have to also have all the boards replaced as we are fearful of black mold. To date Archies has sent us a bill for the pressure release valve to the tune of 1097.37 and refuses to take responsibility for damaging and replacing our floors. We have since had another Plummer come out to investigate / inspect and he too hasinformed us that this uopgrade was just a ploy to avoid reponsibility and in no way did we need to replace the water main pressure release valve. read more

We had work done by Archie Johnstone Plumbing and Heating twice in two years. We found their technicians very well trained, knowledgeable, professional, polite and diligent. This year - 2022- in the fall we had technician Dave Wiebe here, a very knowledgeable Refrigeration expert/technician, who was a God-sent. Our Restaurant cooler which is used for operating our B&B in Victoria, BC, is at least 40 years old and its repair needs special knowledge, which Dave ***** certainly possesses. Thank you for an excellent repair, finding the root cause of the Cooler losing refrigerant and also fixing a water leak in the cooling system. Our Cooler is in a tight spot, it would take special effort to take it out and replace it, so we are very grateful to Dave for doing an excellent repair and saving us from replacing it! We can highly recommend Archie Johnstone. We had nothing but good experiences. Their Office staff is also very accommodating and polite. Thank you! read more

We called AJ out to fix a leaking dishwasher on our rental suite, the first call they tightened the house and put the dishwasher back and charge us 1.5 hours... 30 min job at the most... 1 month later we called them back as the dishwasher was leaking again and we felt like they may have not done their job properly.. turns out we had rodents and they chewed through the pipe, instead of calling and saying it wasn't them and that a rodent had done it, they replaced the pipe and billed us 3 hrs plus parts... knowing that if rodents are present they will eat through the pipe again. we never asked for the repair we asked them to look at it as we thought they didn't do their job properly. first bill $152.00( for absolutely nothing) second bill $378.38( for unauthorized replacements) 3 days after they replaced this pipe, the rat ate though it agin!!! read more

I just had 20 feet of 1.5 inch plastic pipe replaced that should have been snaked by AJP&H seven months ago, They snaked a lot of it, but not to the end, about 10 feet short. The pipe we removed had a 1/2 inch hole left that wasn't plugged. To bad yelp doesn't allow me to upload pictures, you'd all be surprised. This is a company to be avoided at all costs. read more

Do not use this company. They've had complaints about various aspects of their business dealings sent to BBB. They are not BBB recommended. I had the misfortune of using them to replace my 10-year-old gas water tank. They sent a young employee who spent two hours trying to fix a tank who's sell-by-date was 8 years. (Afterwards I'd consulted with a plumber who actually knew his business and he said it was ludicrous they planned to fix it a 10-year-old tank.) The young employee spend two hours on the phone to a more experienced employee trying to figure out how to fix it and then went off to find parts for it. Eventually it was decided no it would have to be replaced. I was deeply unimpressed by the lack of knowledge demonstrated and called their office. The more experienced employee showed up and replaced the tank. I was watching him work from my office window as he strolled back and forth to his truck. If he'd been going any slower he would have been walking backwards. He made it clear he wasn't impressed by me phoning his office to complain about the first guy and then calling again to ask for a replacement and to discuss how they were going to bill me as I was worried as the hours were ticking by. So four hours later he leaves and I wait and wait for the bill. It took weeks to arrive. I didn't mind obviously but I did think it weird it took so long. When it arrived I phoned their office to pay half now on my Visa and half next month. The woman assured me that was fine. Later that day I checked my Visa. They'd put the whole amount on my card. So deeply unimpressed by this company. read more

We have used this company twice. Had we known we were given misinformation about a mobile home water supply line at the first service call, there never would have been a second service call. The work performed at the first service call (which was an emergency) was quick, efficient and reasonable. However, we were told at that time the water supply line beneath the mobile home was okay, when in fact it was not up to code at all. We found this information out later by 2 different plumbing companies. At the second service call, it took 2.5 hours to install one new dishwasher that was right beside kitchen sink. Not a complicated job. Then, it took 1 hour to change the supply taps to the washing machine. We were charged while the plumber ate his lunch in the truck. Also, we called twice to get a quote, and they never bothered to return our calls. Frustrating and expensive. Do not recommend ! read more

I have had work done by this company before and it was adequate. My last experience was very sub-par. I needed to get a pressure release valve replaced, but the work done was much more extensive. 800 rather than 100 and it didn't work because he never replaced the pressure release valve and didn't test the work he did. They came back after several phone calls and did the work and charged me another $150. I expressed my displeasure and was told "it is a he said, she said sorta thing" and gave me 1 hour off the total price. This is a company to be avoided. They didn't do the job and massively over-charged. Be careful. read more
