I do adore this place, being the lover of random weird crap that I am. Whether you have a terrible need for roll upon roll of purple electrical tape, or an obscure action figure, a miniature rubber chicken for your doll house or an astroturf purse, this is the place. Everytime I go I'm guaranteed at least a good hour of hilarious wanderings through their isles, and one or two good purchases as well. When faced with the daunting task of gift shopping for my two or three oddes aquantences, I know I can usually count on Archie McPhees. Who doesn't love a black, "corporate whore" rubber bracelet? Or kosher Bazooka Joe? Chances are that your kin from Snohomish County, Los Angeles, Utah, or wherever they're from, have never seen anything quite like this place. Archie McPhee is a fun novelty item store. It's a great place to shop for children's party gift bags, stocking stuffers, or strange "elephant gifts." They sell: eclectic wrapping paper $4 (themes like: bacon, Pi, monsters, and mustaches) , caution tape ("do not cross" "zombies" and "biohazard") by the ft. $2-3, miniature figurines, empty plastic containers to make your own labels for, biohazard bags, and the list goes on. If you or someone you know is a Krampus fan, they're currently selling Krampus themed ornaments, stockings, gift wrap, and "Merry Krampus" sweaters and since you're purchasing directly from Archie McPhee, the prices are actually a little cheaper then most novelty stores (or online)! read more

It's like the Wal-Mart of kitsch and junk, and I mean that in a good way. Like every time I (ashamedly) drag my sorry self into Wal-Mart I find things I didn't know I needed until I saw it. All of Archie McPhee's is "Stuff I didn't know I needed until I saw it". Some of the rad buys I've gotten: -A pennant (like one would get for their sports team) that proclaims "BACON!" -Sad Weiner gum, featuring a depressed dachshund on the box. -A Barista action figure -A plethora of surplus buttons swtiches and levers for my son's Darth Vader costume. -A fez -Taxidermy eyes -Small plastic "accident victim" figures to go on my husband's 30th birthday cake. -A giant box of Macaroni and Cheese (Note: This did not actually include the macaroni and cheese, sadly.) I, somehow, grew up with these catalogs as a kid, so going to this storefront nearly upon arrival was like "oh. this stuff. okay." Sure. You can go here and pick out the perfect bozogift for the child, manchild, or debutante that has everything. They will very likely not have this stuff. At least not until they get the catalog. Oh yeah, I luv this place..... I followed them to Ballard from their Gasworks park store, I'm glad they moved locations, the new store in Ballard ROCKS!! Well in size mostly. More stuff than you can shake a stick at, I've brought out of town guests to this place to show it off, they always leave with a bag of goodies in tow and in awe. The crew is.... unique, yet quite lovable. The Pez collection above the check out counter is just crazy. One of my favorite sections is the little plastic toy area, we've bought them to put on cakes for birthdays and used them stocking stuffers for Xmas. I bought my first rubber chicken from these guys.... now were did I put it??....hmmm.... Seriously, I do not know why I always drove by here and never stopped in. Came in today and this store just had so much random goodness to choose from, I was dumbfounded for an hour. I love that I can get a hot purple wig for $14.95 for my french maid costume. If I want to see a match off between bacon and tofu, I can recreate my own show for $9.95 If I want to stand up for my feminist ladies at nighttime while I am using the bathroom, the night light will represent for $2.95. And finally, if I want to show off my devilishness evil side while still maintaining my cuteness, my dashboard evil duckie will suffice for $3.95. This used to be about the coolest store on earth! I used to love the old Ballard location. Not the original location, but the last location that had the store split in two. They used to have extremely trendy novelties and collectables. Since moving to Wallingford, they have been reduced to a grab bag of overpriced candy and crap. It's sad to see what this place has become and maybe classic items are available online. But this is a place you could kill time and spend a few bucks, now, I wouldn't entertain a return. read more

I first started going to this store when it was in Ballard....then they moved to Wallingford. What's not to love about this cool little curiosity store?! It's great for Adults and kids. If you are looking for a unique gift for someone hard to please, this is the place to come. :) There is something for everyone here. They have their own parking lot (with about 5 avail spots), which is nice. I ended up buying a monkey T-shirt ("Less Talk More Monkey") and some cute finger puppets. What a neat store! Archie McPhee's has something for every person in your life, whether it be gummy bacon, miniature dice, a funny trophy or a rubber duck. The employees really know their stuff and are willing to help you find whatever you're you might be searching for. They are also surprisingly hilarious-- ask them for a joke. While you're there, make sure you take advantage of the photo booth. You're allowed to use any of the props in the store and that really makes for a neat souvenir. read more

When I used to live in Fremont "Center of the Universe", I would regularly go for supplies for my business. Yup. My business. Now that I live in another Fremont (Krappyfornia), I still make it a point to visit the store each time I'm up on a visit. I love this place... It's so damn weird! It totally belongs in downtown Seattle. Not only is it a family favorite, but it's a tourist destination as well. I always find some kind of junk that I probably don't need! I stopped in recently with a friend who has been in the Seattle area for two years, but never knew of the store. It has a little bit of everything, knickknacks, gag gifts, off-the-wall, costume pieces, plenty of things to keep children occupied, including the young at heart. LOL although my friend did not find anything, I went home with four miniature dinosaurs for my bathroom collection. I am giving four stars because the store in general is kept clean, organized, always has new products, popular products, etc. However, prices are a little high and the staff is not exactly friendly! They act superior or snobbish for presumably unrealistic reasons.. LOL, I don't know! I'm probably going to burn in hell for this (at least Yelp hell), but I'm sorry - I'm just not infatuated with this place like everyone else seems to be. Sure, this place can be fun to go in, look around, and see what kinds of crazy stuff they have to sell. I can spend up to half an hour browsing the aisles - BUT I've never bought a single thing there. Most of the stuff they have for sale doesn't actually interest me and I can't see myself shelling out a dime for most of it. When I met my wife, she was using an Archie McPhee lunchbox as a purse, and her place was well decorated with their kitchy magnets. So I was predestined to love the store. (And to start sentences with prepositions.) Archie McPhee has done an amazing job figuring out exactly how to push the buttons of childish grown-ups like me. The mixture of entendre, kitsch, surplus, and sheer fun is truly delightful. Devil duckies? Check. Robot dinosaurs? Check. Rubber snakes? Check (even though they're scaaaary). Gas masks? Uh, check. Weird old LED displays from cassette players? WTF? The girl who checked me out was friendly and chatty, which is nice. Archie McPhee's II across the lot was cool too -- great place to buy surplus tiki-restaurant decor. Although the staff there were much more interested in comparing tattoos and arguing about Death Cab than in being helpful. read more

After having some dinner at May Thai Restaurant just a couple of blocks away, my sister had mentioned that Archie McPhee's was really close by. I had never been there and wanted to check it out. Plus, the whole family needed to walk off the huge Thai dinner we just devoured. My 2 1/2 year old daughter was getting a bit cranky, but when I told her we were going to the "toy store" she calmed down. Go figure! As soon as we stepped foot inside, we were right in front of the register checking out all of their varieties of mints and bandages. We made our way back where we found lots of knick knacks and gags. My daugther managed into conning her grandma into buying her all sorts of little toys; two pigs, a wind up donkey, and a monkey finger puppet. Surprisingly, not much really caught my eye, only a tin of Wasabi Gumballs. They weren't even a bit spicy, which was kind of a disappointment of $3.75. First bite down, you can taste and feel the wasabi but after that, it was just your ordinary sweet gumball you'd get from the $0.25 gumball machine. My parents on the other hand got a total kick out of the store and bought lots of useless gag stuff. Like the emergency toilet seat covers in a tin. The best thing was them having a sticker photo booth. I haven't seen those since high school, when they were the "thing". Still $3 and took my very first sticker picture with my daughter. I'll have to make another visit to bring the boyfriend next time. read more

Where else can you get a WWND (What Would Ninja Do) folder, a panda mask, or an inflatable fruit cake for the holidays? Looking for squirrel underpants? Look no further! Archie's has them! What they do not have anymore though is the Senor Misterioso glow in the dark figure....not sure why. But they need to restock him! He's a classic!! Archie's is awesome! Archie McPhee's is the intergalactic headquarters of Stuff You Didn't Know You Needed. At first glance it seems like it's full of random crap, and well, it is. But! Alot of the crap is actually useful if you really spend some time and dig through it. Especially the stuff in the bulk bins and the spinny racks in the back. I once bought a couple of plastic urine-sample cups with lids there for like 25 cents each, and they have made excellent receptacles for Small Objects I Don't Want to Lose, like thumbtacks. They also sell CHUPA CHUPS! which are the best lollipops ever, and insanely hard to find anywhere else. One downside is that the place is always mobbed a week or so before Halloween, but that's because it's chock full of useful crap, especially costume elements. Just go already! read more

What can I say about Archie McPhee that hasn't already been said? Probably nothing, I'm sure, but it's a truly wonderful place that has become my go-to for costume accessories (they have a lot of wigs & hats at great prices), fun printed band-aids, kitschy kitchen items, retro candy, and random wind-up toys. And whenever we're making a trip down to SC for the holidays, we stop and load up a bag full of goodies for the (now 7-year-old) niece. And she loves EVERYTHING we put in there! This year we grabbed some temp tattoos, finger tentacles, some finger narwhals, a wind-up brain (ew), a couple of sparkly dealie-bobber headbands, a faux Rubik's cube (AWESOME), and some other assorted junk and packaged it all up in a funny monster bag. Everyone is right. This place is so much fun. If you are a fan of 99cent stores than prepare to be blown away. This place has so many incredible little novelty items for pennies. For thousands of years my people have been revering or searching for the (up to now lost) Ark of the Covenant. I welled up when I found several of them on sale here, at Archie McPhee's! Really, got emotional. (I thought they would be bigger, but I must've had my facts wrong.) Turns out they have the Ark(s) have been here all this time! There are only 4-5 parking spots used only during the time you're shopping. Otherwise, to the streets. Like the hundreds of reviewers before me stated, there are large rubber masks of horse heads and lots of novelty bacon items. If you need Edgar Allan Poe or Sigmund Freud action figures, this is the place. While you're at it, get a horse-head squirrel feeder, jumbo plastic syringe, or taxidermy eyes.
