I feel scammed with how the price increases at the register and they don't provide you an itemized list / invoice to review before paying. We bought several things (cards, trinkets, a book) and paid thinking it was high but surely it must be correct because they're using a calculator. I printed a receipt upon payment but was given only a cc payment receipt and not an itemized invoice. When I got home and added everything up it was ~$30 less than what I paid (not including the almost $4 charge to pay by cc which as a cashless business is the only option). Lucca is giving small businesses a bad rep and should be ashamed of themselves. I will not be going back. I'm giving two stars instead of one to recognize the selection of goods in which they'll use to take advantage of you. read more

LUCCA great finds indeed! I saw Juniper Ridge Products on Instagram and I reallllllly have been looking for natural, woodsy, inspired products/fragrances. When I went to the website LUCCA was the only Local boutique to carry them I've walked by the store a HUNDRED times and somehow never managed to pop in That changed today. Due to covid only 4 people can occupy the space. Totally find, so since I WANTED to smell these products I patiently waited my turn. I sanitized before I was able to enter and wore my mask even when smelling the fragrances. I found what I was looking for and then continued on browsing. I finally settled on the mini soaps to try as many as possible. I also picked up a tea because I mean of course! The store has a selection of the best find though! If you have an eclectic taste then you MUST pop into this small local Ballard business. You will not be sorry! This is one of the best gift shops I've been to in the Seattle area. It's part curiosity shop, part vintage art shop. They lean towards specializing into more of the curiosity side of gifts. In the front of the shop, you have coffee table books on centuries past fashion, anatomy, fortune telling, astrology, and vintage themed pictionary dictionaries. You can also find specialty soaps, lotions, and cedarwood & lemongrass sage bundles, tea and dish sets. In the back, they have vintage/antique post cards, posters, vintage scissors, and an abundant variety of writing tools! My favorite of the writing tools are the 'field note' mini notebooks and the group of grid, lined, and sketchbook notebooks that are of great quality. The owners take great care to bring their customers something unique and unusual. This is one of my favorite stores located in the Ballard neighborhood. I highly recommend taking a peak around, especially if you're a mixed media artist or creative entrepreneur. The most beautiful and dreamy smelling gift store in Ballard! Amazing array of items, from perfumes to candles to out from heaven soaps to the most intricate adornments for your house. I was more and more amazed as I was discovering more and more the store and for a moment I thought I was back to elementary school times with those old fashioned German made inks in purple, lavender and indigo blue, so pretty! Plenty of old school note books with travel memorabilia, especially portraying creative images of London, Paris and Seattle. Their patio is gorgeous and everything there is on sale too. Lots of kitsch objects and atmosphere. Friendly service that allows you to browse and touch without being on top of you. And oh, again, that smell on the way out, you will never forget that magic smell of Lucca's candles. read more

Quirky, beautiful and oddly inspiring. One of the most intriguingly staged stores I have been to and a wonderful surprise to walk around in. Black walls, restored jeweled chandeliers, bird cages, antique cards and letterpress, old maps, quirky statuary, and gifts. Inspirational browsing for those with a creative spirit. Love this shop - everytime I'm in the neighborhood inevitably I drop in and find myself slowly smelling all the candles and soaps, browsing the greeting cards and stationary in the back, and wishing I had a lot more money to spend here. Personally I've never had a bad customer experience at this shop but it does get pretty busy (especially on weekends) so it can take a few minutes to check-out or to find someone to ask for help. I'd argue that it's on par with other similar boutiques in Ballard - it's a small business and they don't have a ton of staff on-hand to help you. If you need to find a unique gift for a housewarming or a birthday, I'd recommmend swinging by here for some interesting finds. The candles and soaps that I've purchased for others have always been well received and I've found that the soaps end up lasting a pretty long time (with the scents lasting as well). read more

Yet another perfect shop in Ballard! Stopped in on our stroll through the neighborhood and left with all kinds of cool things. They have a very creative and original collection of greeting cards for any occasion, decorative wrapping paper, stationary materials and writing utensils, candles & incenses, and so much more. Lucca is terrific for beautiful cards that are unique and will make the recipient feel pretty special. Also has a great selection of candles that smell amazing and burn forever (and are expensive, but that's okay--see "smell amazing and burn forever"). They also carry some pretty tasty French teas up at the front. The Mariage Brothers "Wedding Imperial" tea, in particular, is however you say "mind blowing" in French. Added bonuses abound--the vibe of an early 20th Century Parisian shop, the array of curiosities that are for sale, the INCREDIBLY nice staff who genuinely appreciate their customers and remember you from prior visits, and the people-watching and dog-watching that is inherent to old Ballard Ave. It's more expensive than most little shops but I am more than happy to support this lovely little local business. read more

I'm a bad, bad customer. I have shopped at Lucca for the last 3 years and haven't written a review. I ADORE this store. It is very tiny and precious, like a Faberge egg, (OK, maybe not THAT precious, more like a Limoges box) gilded and ornamented with care and precision. I have never come into the store looking for a gift and not found something, anything that will make the receiver happy. The trick for me, is to not purchase something for myself, which is very difficult. So like a horse, I come in with blinders on, zero in on my specific need and exit as quickly as possible. It's like the 'Anthropologie' for all things chlorophyl-esqe. I was in here yesterday, 'oohing' and 'awwwing' my way through the store. The symmetry of some of these plants, nowadays.. it's just, plain mindblowing! Hell, I don't even garden and I found myself wanting almost everything in here because it's all so pickin' cute! Lots of interesting and fun looking plants and cacti, arranged in the most lovely pots! Great space too- very tranquil and relaxing. Great place to go to get someone (or me!) a green gift.. From their gorgeous window display and the smell of their fine bath soaps that welcome you into their charming store Lucca carries gorgeous stationary, cards, home decor and vintage seasonal decor. Their customer service is great and they take care in wrapping your items in tissue paper wrap. I like to be my votive candles here and gifts for nearly any occasion. Giftware Mecca. Really that's the only way to describe this place. Immediately when you walk in is a table set with the most BEAUTIFUL plates... ornamental yes but holly crap I want... I WANT! The chandeliers hanging from the celing are stunning and if I had room for about 20 of them I'd totally do it. Their products range from ribbon by the yard and cards to birthday favors, kitchen towels, mens shaving products, soap and even a few ouija board type fun kitchy items. I really do love this place, and its smells like heaven should smell. The lady is very nice and I had fun meandering the store listen to her talk on the phone with her associate about window displays occaisionally looking over to see her doodle out an idea only to cross it off or elaborate on it some more. The one draw back? Prices. Ouch! I really can't afford to shop for anything here other then cards and an occaisional decorative ribbon but I'll tell you if I was rich and eccentric I would probably decorate my house with this place. read more

Definitely one of my favorite home decor shops to check out/buy quality items. I could spend hours just looking at the random bits here & there. The "papier" selection in the back is especially great for scrapbooks/arts & crafts. You could definitely find some cute/vintage/sophisticated gifts (or the supplies to make gifts) for friends. I left with a huge roll of kraft paper, a bag of small tags, & 2 vintage mini postcards with envelopes for a total of $6. Not a penny wasted. The narrow space is filled with scented candles and lotions, the walls are lined with stationary and wrapping paper that reminds me of french wallpaper.. antique chandeliers hang from the ceiling. Wow, I wish I had caught the name of the person that helped me. I had planned to stop by there for a gift before a birthday party. I like how diverse the gifts are that they have there and I like that the prices vary so widely. Great stuff! I called to ask when they were closing, Yikes! Now! She asked what I needed and I explained and told her what I wanted to buy then I jumped in the car and raced down there. She had even thought to gift wrap it for me. Talk about going the extra mile, I'm sure she had better things to do than wait for me to get there. The only thing I wish is that all the little retail shops would have hours that last till 7:00 so that people could shop after work. When you walk in the smell of lightly scented candles and french tea will delight your senses and as you enter the back, your eyes will light up from all of the colorful cards and party favors. This is my favorite store in all of Seattle. I could probably end the review there, but to be a bit more clear I am tempted to keep this review to myself because Lucca is a gem. For those that I most love, I buy all of their gifts here. You can also buy Mariage Freres tea here--in case your well acquainted with the best tea in France and the best tea in the world. Yes the prices are steep but most of their items are from abroad--thus, you could order them online but then you'd end up paying even more in shipping. I can't believe I'd never been into Lucca before yesterday. This shop is amazing! The front has all kinds of beautiful glass items, candles, chandeliers, and various goodies. The paper room in the back is filled with stationary, cards, wrapping paper, and every kind of paper good you can imagine. That sort of thing is my weakness and I found myself trying not to grab one of every single thing that caught my eye! The garden statues in the back are quite nice as well - I could see myself owning a few someday! I needed to buy socks last weekend. Instead? I bought a shadow boxed taxidermy foot long beetle and a smaller pinned butterfly. If you're at all sketched: signage claimed they source their taxidermy insects ethically. When I asked what that meant, the proprietor said the butterflies, moths &c die naturally, float gently to the rain forest floor and "are only then taken from their habitat." #westcoast It's the perfect place for accent pieces and even framed wall art is very reasonable (my two framed pieces were like $95). The many, many paper mache animal heads ranged between $60 and $150. The only real problem is that (even for Ballard on a Saturday), the place is really narrow and crowded - given that prices aren't posted, it ups the chaos factor quite a bit. If your decorating style is like mine (midcentury modern creepy classroom? bordello with phrenology charts? lush atomic ranch with taxidermy?) this place is heaven. And that hippopotamus sculpture is mine. read more

LUCCA is SO cool. I mean cooler than cool. I stumbled upon this Ballard store months ago and have been slightly obsessed ever since. It's the type of store you would expect to find in 1920s London or Paris, hidden in an alley, the type of place where you might find some magical book, or meet some mystical guy in old-timey clothes telling stories of the sea.
