Tourists, if you're looking for a unique, handmade Alaskan gift, this place should be your first stop. I'm pretty sure 100% of their items are made in Alaska, by local Alaskan artists, artisans and crafters. Admittedly they don't have Native Alaskan Crafts, but they are very heavy on Alaskan themed art. Items range from under 10 dollars to several thousand and there's nothing pretentious about this gallery. It's all acessible and gorgeous. Items run the gamut: stationary, jewelry, glass, sculpture, paintings, textiles, home decor, photography, clothing, beauty products... so many things I can't name them all. Alaskan themes are abundant, birch, halibit, salmon, Denali, Anchorage, snow, mountains, moose, ect. If you wanna buy me something I'll love, start here. It's a shame it's so far down 4th Avenue next to the dusty old abandoned 4th Ave Theater, because a lot of people miss this place because of its location. Seek it out, you won't regret it.

They literally doubled the cost of a piece that I could find by the same artist in many other galleries. I have since come to learn that they do not have good relationships with some of their artists. Their prices are too high and best to go directly to the artist when you can. Do your homework before you buy from them. There is no reason to overpay for art.

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly and instantly felt welcome. The shop is absolutely charming -- there's so much to see that my eyes were having a feast! I ended up buying the cutest hand-beaded medicine pouch made of seal skin and an adorable pair of socks. Honestly, if I had more time, I could have spent hours exploring everything. A fine layer of dust seems to cling to everything in the store, but it is not the dust of neglect; it is the dust of constant hard work. They have a wide variety of items - art, pins, jewelry, carvings, and scrimshaws and much more! I will admit I wasn't certain when I first passed the shop as the retractable gate and the locked door made it look uninviting. My friend tried the door, found it locked, and walked away leaving me barely time to read the sign that said "if locked call or text number listed" as they would be in the back working. The next day we returned, and after informing my friend what the sign said, prepared to call but found the door unlocked. There were multiple cases full of different items. The workshop in the back looked busy. After being in so manny tourist shops it just felt nice being somewhere that felt real. The gentleman who assisted us was warm and informative. He told us about the artisans, the mission, and all they were doing. My eyes fell upon a jade bead necklace and I was captivated. I had been looking at jade all trip fairly unimpressed because they largely were flat green and didn't interest me. This necklace had character with inclusions and variations in the color. Each bead was unique. There were two necklaces and I opted for the smaller since being short the larger was a bit long to wear practically. The larger, tho, was epically beautiful as well! We ended up buying that necklace and a handcrafted pin. I am very pleased with our purchases and would recommend anyone who seeks authentic pieces to come to this Art Alliance.
