The only bad part about this campsite is basically that you have to share it with humanity. Around 7 AM people's kids started freaking out and crying. Never a nice way to start the day! So basically, expect a big field covered with campers and no privacy between sites and you won't be disappointed.

The owners have changed and they really suffer from the bad reputation of the previous owner. The wigwams are huge, I think they can fit 4 or 5 people. It's a real palace when you're just 2! They are also very well equipped: microwave, fridge, kettle, tea pot and mugs, pillows, blanket, sleeping bags, fresh fruits, Isle of Skye guide. It's definitely the best wigwam we've stayed in during our trip. Next to the wigwams there is a common house with a nice living room (sofas, tables & chairs, society games, books) and a big kitchen with everything you need to cook. Really it was like staying at home! The bathrooms are small but clean (nothing exceptional on that side). The price was £30/night for 2 persons (in the same range as other wigwams in Scotland, but with much more comfort and amenities!). The place is close to the Talisker distillery (5 min by car). Next to the distillery there is a pub/restaurant (the Old Inn: great food and nice atmosphere!). If you want to go to the Old man of Storr, it's 30-45 min away by car. I would definitely recommend to stay here if you plan to go to the Isle of Skye! (except if you don't have a car, you should stay closer to Portree).

We stayed 2 nights in a camping pod in may 2013…read more The pod is quite ok, very well insulated (and heated, so you really don't feel cold once inside), but the mattresses provided were too thin and not comfortable at all! There is no equipment inside the pod, only a small heating and sockets. Outside the pod you have your own fire pit and a picnic table. There was no common room / common kitchen (only a fridge), so you have to cook on your barbecue or go to the pub in Cannich (the coffee shop inside the camping closes very early). Showers (free) and toilets were clean, with paying hair dryer. The man who runs the place was very nice, also was the woman in the coffee shop. The campgroung is well situated, close to Lochness (Urquhart Castle) and Glen Affric and Glen Cannich which are absolutely amazing places to see! So if you chose to stay in a pod, bring your own inflatable mattress, and be aware that there is nothing to cook except from the fire pit.

The Black Cuillin Hills loom ominously and magnificently on one side, Glenbrittle beach lies directly ahead of the campsite and to the rear are wildlife-filled pine forests and the famous Fairy Pools. At only £5pp a night, with access to toilets, showers, the site shop, water sources, and a spacious field filled with cheeky rabbits during the night, Glenbrittle was a wonderful place to be. The location of the site is the key to its success, but also its only downfall. Being at the end of a valley means Glenbrittle stands in the centre of a huge wind tunnel, and when the gales pick up, so does your tent! Ours survived one night in 40mph gales but might not have lasted much longer. Some others didn't fair so well... An energetic 2/3hr walk will take you half way up to the Sgurr Alasdair (The Cuillin's highest point at 992m), and to its mysterious little Lochan and waterfall. A short drive away you will find Skye's tasty Taslisker Distillery and the little town of Portree. I would recommend this site to anybody!

Meant to be, Glenbrittle and me! The Isle of Skye is gorgeous, so the campsite already has the surrounding beauty going for it. Otherwise, though, here are the key components that speak to me: - hot showers - fantastic coffee (a barrista on-site who makes delectable flat whites? Nothing says "camping is ok" after a chilly windy night than AM flat whites to warm the body and soul) - BREAD BAKED TO ORDER! BREAD BAKED TO ORDER YOU GUYS! Take that flat white, and level up with a loaf of seeded sunflower bread and a 1/4 lb. of butter. Sit by Glenbrittle beach and revel in how amazing caffeine, hot carbs and salted fat can be in combination. Yelp note: no phone service or wifi, which might cause immediate anxiety but - trust - is relaxing as soon as you settle into it.

This was my first bothy experience. My friend told me all about it before we headed out to it. It's…read morebasically a giant cabin or hostel out in the middle of the wilderness and its FREE. This one held about 14 people in a giant bunk bed that covered the entire back wall. The bothy also came with a kitchen area that you can cook in. It is located right off of the coast of the Isle of Skye. The ocean is literally 40 yards away. We backpacked about three miles from the parking area which is on a one lane road. While you are hiking out, you will be traveling through the pasture, so be sure to close the gates so the little sheep don't get out and keep your dog on a leash. There is a decent about of elevation gain and loss to get out here, so be sure to pack light or be prepared to get tired. The grass in this region is typical of what you will find in the highlands. I don't know much about it, but it's super wet. Once you get to the top of the hill looking down towards a lake, you will see several bothy's, but only one is open, which is the bothy on the left. Be sure to respect other people you see and leave the house to the right alone. They are very close to shutting the bothy down due to people not respecting the land. So don't be "that guy" and ruin it for others. As this is a shared space, be prepared to share sleeping space with other people. I was pretty nervous for this as my first hostel experience was a little strange, but I got super lucky! My friend and I met some people from Belgium, and Germany and all got along great. We shared stories, food, and all showed each other respect to make the day go by well. A huge store that has it's own climbing wall, cafe and bike shop…read more Stocks many of Tiso's rarer items, like expedition weight tents and inflatable kayaks. But very expensive to order in anything that they don't have on site. The two tills are not optimally placed being as they are tucked in around the main stairs. While the displays are well presented and neatly organised their layout divides the shop too much. Zoning of products is important, but here it reduces flow around the store. Bike shop is geared towards complete bikes and cycle clothing rather than spares, maintenance and upgrades. Has a well equipped and staffed workshop but lacks it's own till. Staff in both bike shop and main store are friendly and knowledgable, if sometimes a bit thin on the ground at times. Cafe is clean and nice with sandwiches made on site. Good bookshop with comfortable seating. Not a bad shop by any means but with such potential it feels like a few minor adjustments would make it superb.

Then helped us carry it out and gave instructions on how to attach rack and kayak. I also needed a wetsuit and booties and got the wetsuit for a good price. Had to buy pricey booties as the only ones in my size but they are great quality. Even the cafe inside Tiso has quality food and drink. When we returned the kayak a day late as my friend Patti Bauernfeind's Loch Ness swim ended later than expected, they told us not to worry about paying any additional cost. Bught Caravan Park is a great place to stay for a family holiday…read more Our family (myself, husband and two children) stayed for a week and at £13 per night we considered it to be inexpensive. We had a nice scenic view from our caravan window. Although the caravan park is set in woodland, you are very close to Inverness where you can enjoy meals out and some great shopping. There are also cinemas, sports facilities and other family attractions in the city centre. The site includes showers and toilet blocks and laundry and drying facilities. There is a small on-site shop and a self-catering internet cafe. I'll certainly be booking again if I plan to spend more than a few days in Inverness. The site is graded with 3 stars by the Highland Council. The cost of caravan rental is fairly inexpensive
