Provided the wrong type of jewelry for a eyebrow piercing, claimed she received something she did not.

I got 2 lip piercings & a septum in the same time frame 5 weeks ago the employees are genuinely sweet people. BUT they gave me jewelry that was way too snug for the healing process, due to swelling it was too small even when they put it in my lip. I could tell because they were struggling to put the ball onto the bar. I left the store with ONE bottle of cleaner and realized I didn't know how to clean my piercings. I went back in to ask and wasn't properly informed just told to soak/ rinse with clean hands, don't use Q-tips and don't twist, don't touch with dirty hands. That was it. I ran out of cleaner weeks ago and had no idea I've still been needing to clean it. which is embarrassing though I had NO IDEA how to take care of it these are my first ever face piercings. now I'm terrified abt infection and have a fever/ in a lot of pain. I'm Upset and concerned it was a waste of money I was really excited and have been seriously let down. I spent a lot of money and am now in a lot of pain spending more money in order to fix this. unfortunately i wouldn't recommend this place to people due to lack of information about cleaning as that's such an important part of this process! I mean it seems like an ok place in that it's clean, well located, and they have a better selection of jewelry than other places tend to have (based on what was in their case, I got the impression that they don't force you to pierce with the ugly starter jewelry that a lot of other places do). I stopped in two times, once to kind of get an idea of what they had and what might be possible piercing-wise, and a second time to get pierced. I was pretty disappointed that I wasn't able to get a piercing. The woman said that they were fully booked for the day and thus weren't taking walk-ins. I arrived around 11:45 (they opened at 11), no one was in the lobby, and she had come out of the piercing room where she'd been waiting when I entered... all this is to say, which appointments? We also were outside for about 15 minutes after I left chatting and planning our next stop; no one entered during that time and one person (who I saw through the window in one of the piercing rooms as we were arriving with a different staffer) left. So, not really sure what the deal is here but I'm unlikely to return. Unfortunately making an appointment isn't as simple as it sounds when you're a sole caregiver for an infant, so since it sounds like they limit walk-ins I'll just find another place. read more

Can't say enough good things about this shop! I've gone to Area 51 tattoo for some tattoo work, and decided to come to Area 51 piercing for a nose and helix piercing. Called to inquire about the cost of a helix and the guy was so rude. For not having any prices on their website you would think they would be a little more helpful, but he was condescending and rude. Marvelous! Staff is incredibly kind and comfortable to be around, I've had over 3 jewelry changes here (downsizing) and today I finally got pierced! Along with picking up a special order, which was a really simple process too! I got a pair of lower vertical labrets done by Jared, we spoke earlier about them- they're positioned a bit differently so when healed they can have spikes going outward (aka- do not evaluate this picture as a regular vertical labret! These are specially placed, and Jared took his time and checked in with me multiple times to make sure I was happy with placement before going through with things) Jared is super kind, very understanding of different ways of pain management and they even have some capri suns on hand incase someone gets a bit shaky (I've been there before, but luckily these were quick!!) Highly highly recommend this shop, it's APP certified, they take their time to make sure everything is sterilized and use the latest in medical supplies (they use this fancy medical gel to clean the area instead of iodine!!) They will special order jewelry for you, they will custom color (anodize) jewelry for you right in shop, they will accommodate you! 100% will be coming back, hopefully will remember to throw some healed photos up on here too! read more

They're very knowledgeable about their jewelry and what they do. The only slight downside is that they won't put in any jewelry that isn't their own. Came here on a Sunday afternoon. I was greeted by someone as soon as I walked in. I told I her I was looking for real diamond nose rings to change out my current nose ring. At the moment they did not have any in stock, but they would be having a shipment sometime soon. I opted for a gold hoop ring. After the person installed it for me, I knew immediately that it wasn't for me. I was hesitant to speak up, BUT I'm so glad I did. They were able to change it for me to a different three stone stud, which I LOVE. I felt bad for asking for them to change it. They reassured me that they're happy that I did. Came here to get my first ear piercings! We were visiting from California, so we didn't know what to expect. But it was pleasant! Front desk is extremely friendly. They have a wide selection of first - time earrings, so you definitely have many choices! They are all made of titanium, definitely not cheap crap. My piercer was Aeon, he was professional and quick. The piercing space is very clean and you won't ever feel suspicious getting your ears pierced here. Unfortunately, they were sold out of saline solution so we had to go and buy it ourselves. The total price was $155 for the larger studs. ($35 for piercing fee + $120 for earrings) The price will depend on how big you want your studs to be! The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because of the wait time. Online, you will book a reservation for a certain time. We booked it at 5pm, but unfortunately didn't get pierced until around 5:40. I didn't really pay attention to the wait time, since I was already pretty nervous. If you have a certain time you want, book it around 30-40 mins before IF POSSIBLE! Area 51 piercing is very popular, and there are limited spaces. General Ratings!: Service: 9/10 Hygiene: 9/10 Time-keeping: 3/10 OVERALL: 8/10 FOR FIRST TIME PIERCERS! (specifically ear lobes): It is not as bad as you think it is. As someone with a low pain tolerance, I would describe it as a vaccine. It puts a little pressure and it may and can hurt for a little while after the piercing is over, but if you just use a Wound Wash (NeilMed is the brand that was recommended) and a q-tip twice a day it should be fine! Spray the Wound Wash onto the piercing, then use a q-tip around the piercing to get rid of the crusties and dried blood. read more

I had gotten my septum pierced here about a year and a half ago and loved it. Unfortunately, it came out and I called today around 12pm to see pricing for new septum jewelry as well as to see when they close. The lady on the phone said they close at 6pm, which is also stated on the door of their store and online. So I said okay I get off work at 5pm I should be there around 5:15pm. She says okay, so after work I get there and a girl opens the door and says "we're closed". I explained that I called on the phone and all I needed was the jewelry and she said "sometimes we close early". A heads up would have been nice instead of wasting my time showing up there. I've been debating writing this, as it's not necessarily an experience at the shop, but I feel it's important to show what excellent character the owner Jared has, as it's so needed in the world. Recently I was leaving the Fred Meyer gas station by the connection lot of Lowe's. As I got closer I could see a situation that was obviously happening. First I saw an unconscious man on the ground, in the arms of a women and another man with them on the ground. The women was giving the man sternum rubs, something one does when someone is OD'ing. Then I realize Jared was there with his truck trying to direct traffic around him in the lot, while also being on the phone. I tried to ask if they needed anything or if they wanted me to run to grab Narcan from the Freddie's pharmacy (you can get it at pharmacies), Jared responded he had already given him some, and they were just waiting for the help to arrive. I'm sure like many in this town, I got some of my first piercings from Jared years ago during his high priestess days, and now follow Area 51 socials, so I recognized him immediately. Though my heart aches for the overall situation happening, I really hope the man was ultimately alright. My heart was also warmed to see someone in the community doing their best in a situation many would just pass by or overlook. Just wanted to share this appreciation, and say to support buisness owners with heart, and human care. This was also a reminder to carry my Narcan on me, as you never know what could happen. Piercing is fine, did a lovely job. But dont get custom made chains from them. I got a custom order for my double high nostril. They told me they only worked with gold, pricy but not a problem. I asked for a double chain, I wanted it to be thicker and the chains to be different lengths. Instead what I got was a two very thin and dainty chains. They weren't long enough to be noticeably separate most of the time and often tangle together in an uncomfortable and annoying way. They also broke and had to be repaired. I didn't even do anything to the chains, I woke up one morning and they were broken. I paid 200+ dollars for these chains and they have been more headache than anything else. Go somewhere else if you want custom. read more

My daughter (20) suggested going to this piercing shop to see if they could help my ailing ear lobes. I've had 3 piercings (2 in one ear and 1 in the other) for nearly 40 years and I've never been able to consistently wear earrings. My ears kept getting infected after 4-6 hours of wearing earrings (high quality gold), and it would hurt sometimes putting earrings in. We went to Area 51 and had the best experience. Taylor is very knowledgeable. She explained why the surgical titanium is so good. I wasn't sure but thought I would try and I've had these beautiful little flat back earrings in my ears for the past month!! I can't even tell they're in my ears, until I look in the mirror and see how nice they look! Steven (the piercer) was so gentle and reassuring. He did a fantastic job placing the earrings in. I've never been to the location in Springfield so I can't speak on their work, but the location on wilamette street I had the worst experience. I have many piercings and I've never had one turn out like this. Originally I went in only to get a bigger bar for my piercing because the shop in Portland put one in not big enough for swelling. the girl that helped me said she could change it no problem, but took my whole piercing out and I had to come back to get it re pierced and pay an extra $60, this was a bottom belly button piercing, I wasn't trying to go through that pain again either. I was so happy with my placement of the piercing the first time, it was perfect I just wanted a longer bar now my belly button looks so ugly, scars and I hate the placement, I can't even wear my top belly button piercing at the same time which was the whole point. The piercer at area 51 did the piercing so slow too, looks like my skin blew out, always bleeds and hurts everytime I move and it's been months and now I'm stuck with ugly very noticeable scars and irritation from Area 51 repiercing it for absolutely no reason. If she couldn't change the bar why would she take my piercing out period and I have to pay after already paying another place to pierce it, So disappointed in my whole experience at this shop. read more

My experience with counter staff at the shop was okay, my piercing experience was fine, but the overall result was disappointing. I came in for a symmetrical nostril piercing, and my piercer pierced my left side twice, two different holes, which was odd... They said it looked good (after piercing the left side twice), but upon getting a second opinion from a different shop once it was healed, it was far less than a satisfactory piercing. I have since gotten the piercing removed and am awaiting it to heal to get it repierced elsewhere.
