With so many choices in Venice, and so many visitors it's not surprising to find as many bad, as…read moregood eateries in the squares. We picked Le Café because it was full of people and busy which always a good indicator of at least passable food.
We sat outside, but did go inside to wash hands after numerous surface touches on water taxi's public transit during our morning explorations. The bathroom area had sinks outside of the bank's themselves and were clean and well stocked.
The service was a little slow, but once we ordered, the food showed up quickly. My clubhouse with ham, egg, tomato, rocket and cheese was very good and plentiful. The lovely K had the ballerina salad which looked and tasted great. My Sister and her husband travelling with us this trip, both had burgers and fries (?). My Sister asked for it to be well done, and when it arrived it was quite rare, but she soldiered through it as it was past 2 PM and our first food of the day.
When the plates were picked up and the bill dropped our waiter said he noticed how rare it was when taking the plate away and had removed the burger from our bill. He also asked that we come back again and ask for him so he could provide us with a proper meal. I've not seen that in Italy before, it was very observant of him, and the right thing to do. Kudos to him, I wish I had got his name.
