Today, Zach installed a brushed nickel deadbolt on our garage fire door and completed a professional installation. This is our second service call woth Zach and we appreciate his expertise. This is a local, family-owned business that has been around seemingly forever. Their office and showroom on Arrow Road - while not new and glitzy -is pretty well stocked with quality locks from the major brands. We purchased new Schlage front door locks, and had several other deadbolt door locks rekeyed following our purchase of a new home in HH. I thought they did a great job, arrived when promised, and got every lock synched to work off the same key. The locksmith (Zach), although seemingly quite young, was very professional and quite competent, completing several tasks more quickly than I expected. Their charges for the new lock, installation, and rekeying several existing deadbolt locks to work off the same key were rather reasonable in my opinion. I would highly recommend them. read more

The locksmith came out to open a sliding door on a condo in Seascape. This was on a Monday at 4:00 pm. He was here a grand total of 15 minutes. He charged $60 for a service call and $40 for labor. His office is 5 minutes away from the condo. My jaw hit the floor......$60 for a service call.........Really? I've been a Facilities Manager in the automotive industry for close to 40 years. I wouldn't think of doing business with a company that charges these rates. I realize Hilton Head is expensive but this company is outrageously over priced for a service call during regular business hours during the week. I can see paying that for a evening or weekend call but not during the week. I pay less than that for emergency calls during the weekend. Don't call this company unless you want to break out a jar of Vaseline. read more

Found this business through YELP and couldn't be happier. The lockbox on my rental property was destroyed and the key was taken. They replaced the lock and the lockbox on a Sunday and in less than three hours from my call they had completed the job. Highly recommend them! read more

I had the lock cylinders changed and new keys cut on the home I purchased. When they said the work was completed I stated that a few of the door handles are not firm and slipped out of the mounting and was told by ( Jay) and he said that is they way they are supposed to be. Well they weren't before he swiped out the cylinders and I will need another locksmith to correct the workmanship of James "Jay" Bess. I do not appreciate being taken advantage of. My suggestion in one word is "AVOID". read more

Area-wide did a great job servicing my lock when it got loose. Lauren found things to fix that the installer missed (positioning of the strike plate, for example) and I would not hesitate to use them again. Very reasonable on pricing, and responsive with their communications. read more

Exorbitant pricing. I have used Areawide for several years, and until recently was pleased with their work. They have gone from being reasonably priced to exorbitant, adding a trip charge of $60 for each call; my home is less than 2 miles from their office. I received a $175 charge for a 30 minute service call, the second service for the same problem within six months. After the second service call, I was advised to change the lock, which was defective. I contacted the manufacturer who replaced the lock at no charge, and was charged another $150 to install the new lock. In 7 months, I was charged $500 by Areawide to service the same problem on 3 occasions. They are either incompetent or opportunistic, either way, a professional would have identified the defect on the first service attempt, eliminating the second service call. As for the $60 trip charge for a 2 or 3 minute drive, I agree with the charge on weekends and holidays, but not on a regular work day, its highway robbery. Suggest finding another locksmith. read more
