The meat pieces are too big for the arepa. The handmade arepa was so good. One arepa is a pretty big portion but if you are super hungry, get two. One arepa comes out to be around $15 which I think is a little expensive. Pabellon Empanada - I don't know how they filled that empanada and have it come out perfectly. That dough was AMAZING. It had this slight sweetness to it. I never had anything like it before. It was crispy on the outside but chewy and soft in the inside. Wow, so good. There were plantains in the filling which was the highlight for me. It had a lot of cheese which I wish there was less of. Arempas was a great experience for Venezuelan food. We tried their version of mozzarella sticks as an appetizer which was really good. The fried-dough wrapping around the cheese was light and crispy...and the two dipping sauces were a nice compliment - the garlic one was my preference. For the arepas, I tried 4 - peluda, asada, pulled pork, and a veggie/avocado one. All were great. Tortilla has nice level of texture and "chew." HOLY MOLYYYYYYYYYYY. Cachapa with cheese corn and chicken.... Sounds so plain but the cheese and corn was sweet and nothing like I've ever had!!! There's so much protein. The chimichurri sauce that came with the empanada was something special - actually spicy and I love spicy. It kept me wanting more even though I got full fast. My husband and I walked here on a Friday night. There were other people, but it wasn't too busy and things moved quickly. It is a counter service, and the girl working was super nice and helpful in answering our questions. The inside is super adorable with cute decor on the walls and tables. I got a Diet Coke to drink. They have a fountain, and the brew was really good plus I love refills that I can get myself. We got the ham and cheese empanada, shredded beef empanada, and the arepa Reina pepiada. Their empanadas are actually the best I've ever had. So incredible soft and both of the fillings were great. I didn't like the arepa as much. The outside was really crunchy and I couldn't tell if it was stale or supposed to be like that. The filling on this one is chicken salad mixed with avocado. It had good flavor but was really messy. I think that someone else could really like this, but it wasn't for me. I will be back for the empanadas for sure though. They offer a bunch of gluten free options, and my friend, who recommend the place and can't have gluten, has never had an issue with it upsetting his stomach. This was my guy's and my last stop before heading to the airport and what an amazing way to end our trip! This place was delicious! All the employees were very friendly and patient while we decided what we wanted. I didn't feel rushed at all to make a decision. They were happy giving their advice on what we should order. I started with a Guava and Cheese Tequeno. I have never heard of this before, but wow! I cannot tell you the amount of times I get something guava and I can barely taste any guava. This was not the case! Even with the cheese, I could taste the guava and it did not disappoint! It was a fantastic combination of flavors with a nice, crispy shell. It was hard to pick which Arepa to get since I've never had one before, so I decided to do the combo instead! From my favorite to least favorite, I tried their Pulled Pork (juicy and packed with flavor), Reina Pepiada aka avocado chicken salad (also delicious and packed with flavor), Peluda (good, but flavor was as expected), and Catira (chicken was a bit bland for my preference). For me, the Catira was the only one that needed some hotsauce with it since it was missing that something something with it's flavor. Took a trip to Flavortown, USA after this meal. Everything here is gluten free which was great for a friend I was with who has a dietary restriction. I was able to try the Reina pepiada arepa (avocado chicken), shredded pork empanadas, and carne asada cachapa. The arepa was stuffed full of creamy chicken and the arepa was crispy. The empanadas were also perfectly fried and giant! The cachapa also had a delicious sweetness from the corn which paired so well with all the cheese and meat. We liked the flavors, but they did forget to bring our sauces so the hot sauce on the table was helpful. The cashier and server were both very friendly during our visit. There's not very much indoor seating, so if you come during a huge lunch or dinner rush you might have to get your order to go. It was 50/50 during my visit of customers eating in or ordering for takeout. Parking on the street around the restaurant is pretty limited, but there's a pay by the hour parking lot right across the street that had ample parking when we arrived. We don't live anywhere close to Arempa's, but anytime we're near Salt Lake City, we have to make a detour to Arempa's to get more of their delicious food. Last time, we detoured about two hours to grab some food. The shredded beef and cheese cachapa will always be my favorite. Beef is tender and full of flavor. So much stringy cheese. Delish.
