We were seated immediately for a party of 7. We noticed there was only 1 server for all tables; I think someone mentioned that they had just moved the locations. We ordered our drinks and they didn't come til the end of our meal. We ordered 3 appetizers and 7 entrees and they took about 45 mins to come Out and they didn't all come out at the same time. We had to share food until all the food came out. Overall we don't blame anyone just wish the food had come out in a timely manner. Started with the Empanadas de Viento with chicken, cheese and beef. These were pillowy soft, fork Tender. Cheese was melty with a touch of sweet, chicken was fork tender and beef was tender and succulent. You had a sugar "dip" and an avocado cream. Arroz con Menestra Pollo with frejol. Chicken breast was fork tender, take a bite with beans, chicken, rice and red onion with that avocado crema- perfect! I was delightfully surprised at how good this restaurant was. I got the Peruvian Seco de Res and it brought me back to my mission days in Peru. The beef was tender and flavorful. My wife had the Venezuelan Chuleta, and said it was better than her mom's! Great decor, very clean, great food, decent service. We will definitely be back to try more of their menu. I'm torn whether Como en Casa in Taylorsville is quite a four-star stop. Having been on my "to try" bookmarks for months, we loved the flavors from the delicious $6/pint fruit juices (upsold with a flight of three samples as soon as we sat down) to the saucy variety of South-American home-style dishes. I don't know whether live music is a weekend-only feature-- and while the cultural vibe and energy was attractive & lively the volume itself made ordering and table talk very difficult. SO DAMN LOUD!!!! The main protein portions could be a little smallish for the price, as was the portion of $10 fried yucca; and textures on some items a touch overcooked (skirt steak, eggs, fried calamari). But flavors of other dishes (fish and beef in coconut sauce) and appetizers (maduros/ripe plantains broiled with cheese, lime-and-cilantro marinated thin onions for the calamari) were a hit. Many of the other accompaniments (plantains yay!!) and sauces really make the experience from the spicy Peruvian aji verde mayo to the even spicier chimichurri-like Colombian aji salsa. The Peruvian purple corn juice was a first for us-- and nice to find our favorite (soursop/guanabana) here as well. The menu as a mix of dishes from a variety of countries is quite large and appealing, even though several of our Peruvian and Colombian favorites aren't available here. Service was prompt though they don't push you away by bringing the check too quickly; and meal an overall good flavor experience that will likely bring us back. Hopefully the music volume will be much lower. 3.5 stars. read more

Como en Casa is a nicely decorated restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere. The menu appears to be Colombian, Peruvian, and other South American cuisines. I ordered the Lomo Saltado (my favorite Peruvian dish), which was pretty good. However, the beef steak was a little overcooked and tough. Make sure to request red pepper sauce for some extra flavor. The service was friendly and prompt, although the server spoke limited English. read more

Somehow, this restaurant ended up on my list of places to check out. When I was driving through the area, I decided to check it out. It's definitely worth stopping by and giving it a try! I had the smoked porkchop, and the fish chiviche. Both came out fresh, and prepared well. If I ordered the chiviche by itself, I would need a side of rice to go with the dish. The flavors were great, and I would be happy eating either of those dishes again. The maduros were perfect. As you can tell, the menu encompasses most of the northern end of South America, they have a lot of variety between dishes and the price is reasonable. The interior of the restaurant has been decorated well, and is very clean and modern. The staff was attentive and pleasant to talk to. I'll definitely be stopping in to try more of their menu. read more

We got platanos Fritos con queso. Delicious! Maracuyá juice was so good. I forgot to take pictures of everything we got before digging in, but I felt like everyone got a decent amount of food. Father in law got lomo saltado, which I would say the plate was about the same amount of other restaurante I've been too (decent portion). I got bistec a lo pobrecito, and it was soooo good! That was a huuuuge plate, i haven't gotten it anywhere else so not sure how to compare portion to other places but i barely made a dent in it lol. Will definitely be taking to Airbnb for leftovers. Husband got salchipapas and most places use hot dogs with the fries. My husband said these ones were legit sausages and he loved it. Had some ham pieces too. I don't come to salt lake city often at all, but definitely love this place and go out of my way to stop here while visiting nearby in the future. The people were super nice and very friendly. They spoke to us in Spanish which is awesome for those who are looking for a place to practice it or return missionaries. I also love the decorations, very pretty! Highly recommend! read more

Not the best experience overall. My wife's dish arrived on time and was enjoyable, but mine took over 40 minutes to come out. By the time it finally arrived, I was already losing my appetite, and the flavor didn't make up for the wait. Forgot to take pictures and now the plates are all cleaned off. My wife is from Peru and I've spent about a year living down there myself. We've frequented most of the Peruvian restaurants in Utah, so she can get a taste of home without having to make it herself...this is the closest and best we've found to authentic Peruvian food in Utah. I had the seco de res and she had the ceviche and we got our little girls salchipapas. Both were great and prepared how they actually prepare it in Peru; they even had ají de rocoto for my wife's ceviche whereas all the other Peruvian restaurants just use Mexican hot sauce. Ambiance was superior as well and staff did a good job too. Obviously, they have food from Ecuador, Colombia, and Venezuela which we didn't try, but being partial to Peru, I wish they had a few more Peruvian options like Aji de Gallina, Pollo a la Brasa, and papa or talliarin a la huancaina. I might have to push my diet back til next Monday again, cuz I need to come back and try the lomo saltado! read more

I was so looking forward to good Latin food as there are so few in Salt Lake. I wanted so bad for this to be a great experience. I took some friends who came on my advice. I will start by saying the food was delicious and authentic, but way to pricey for location, service, and portions. The challenges to success this restaurant will face are service, table of 5 or more the impose the tips, and overall just the assumed restaurant experiences we are all used to when paying $20.00 for lunch. For the prices they charge, these things will prevent success. Simple examples, I ordered iced tea, it was watery and tasteless, and they had no sweetener. We ordered fried Calamari, and they had no sauce of any kind to dip it in. The waitress didn't bring us water automatically. We ordered beef empanadas and got the standard cheese with no meat, but were charged for the meat version on the bill. The phone rang off the hook the entire time we were there as the hostess was also the server and the restaurant was packed. Then, I was very disappointed that gratuity was added for our party of 5. I completely understand parties of 8 which has been the norm my entire adult life, and I am thrilled to tip high when the service is excellent. It was even more infuriating to see that imposed on the bill when the service was awful. Again, the food tasted good, but I wouldn't go back unless I heard that the entire experience matches the price you have to pay. read more
